I need to replace my laptop, an old HP that weighed a ton and was always slow. I need it mostly for work. My company deals entirely on the cloud, meaning I don't really need a full-on laptop with all the installed programs. Anyone here have experience with chrome books? Could I get by with one if I work on the cloud all day anyway? I use a lot of excel, outlook and power point, all via cloud.

I'm tired of always finding out about concerts after they're sold out. What's the best website/app that will push concert tour dates and ticket sale release dates to your phone? Or the best website to check in general for concerts of any size?

I want to buy a ranch in Texas… big plot of land so that when I sit on my front porch and look out all I see is MY LAND… basement bomb shelter like in Tremors that attaches to the big ass ND fan man cave... gravel driveway so I can hear the bastards coming... electrified fencing around the perimeter… and a nice little ‘welcome ya’ll’ sign at the front gate… right next to the freaking sentry guns.

That sounds epic and I'd pretty much do the exact same think except in the mountains of New Hampshire.

I realize the guy is filthy rich, but wouldn't it be cheaper just to buy about a dozen b-balls then have a boat follow him? lol

While I realize that most here weren't around at the time, I'm watching a documentary on PBS, "Freedom Riders." I was only 9 at the time, but I saw the televised reports and read the stories in the paper (Yes, I read the paper at that age ... and not just the comic and sports sections.

I was living in Florida at the time yet was somehow "protected" by the redneck southern media at the time. The coverup and bias was in full force. In spite of the filters information seeped through.

I became aware in later years of Bob Dylan's assessment as well as other white folk groups a bit down the road. Sadly I had no access to any Blues or "Negro" songs in reaction. I'm a bit embarrassed that it took a Brit to encapsule my feelings in sparse lyrics. I'm a fan of reading between and expanding on lines to suit my needs:

"Freedom Rider"

Like a hurricane around your heart
When earth and sky are torn apart
He comes gathering up the bits
While hoping that the puzzle fits
He leaves you
He leaves you
Freedom rider

With a silver star between his eyes
That open up at hidden lies
Big man crying with defeat
See people gathering in the street
You feel him
You feel good
Freedom rider

When lightning strikes you to the bone
You turn around, you're all alone
By the time you hear that siren sound
Then your soul is in the lost and found
Forever
Forever
Freedom rider

Here it comes

What brought tears to my eyes are not only the painful memories but the knowledge that "it ain't over."

My apologies for the intrusion.

Fuck You.

Alright. FSU this weekend has me preparing to open my wallet. I just moved, and right now I've got a 32-inch Samsung sitting on the mantle. I'm thinking about upgrading for a watch party this weekend so everyone has a clear view (clearly a selfless purchase).

What brands should I focus on? Someone teach me about televisions before I spend money on one!

Depending on how much space you have, I would recommend a 50"-51". If you have the room and the TV won't look out of place go a little bigger.

As far as brands, go into HH Greg, Best Buy or WalMart and just compare. Pick what you like, not by the name. I would make sure it has USB, bluetooth, HDMI, wireless, etc.

I just got a Samsung 51" plasma that I love. Just finished putting it up above the mantel.

I have always tried to go with Sonys product when I can afford it, just me... But I was recently told that a lot of the big names use all the same stuff now anyway, we have a couple 50 inch TVs (one Vizio and one Samsung) and a 70 inch Sony smart TV that is really great... happy with all three so, I guess I've learned that most of the name brands are just fine.

I will never consider purchasing any television that isn't a Sharp. MAYBE a Sony, but my 42" Sharp Aquos has seen more hours of abuse in the last 7 years than any place not called Happy Valley. And it's still kicking. Can't buy that kind of brand loyalty.

Get at least a 50" and stick with Sharp or Sony. It's a large dollar purchase, so if you have anyone with access to a military commissary/exchange, lay the cash on them and save the tax amount.

I bought a 60" LED Vizio smart tv last year. First big TV purchase ever for me. It has everything minus the bluetooth. I bought an aftermarket adapter for that. My only complaint was the sound. But I've heard the same from anyone I know that has a large flat screen TV. I invested in a quality sound bar with a wireless sub. It'll rattle the windows, probably the neighbors too when its turned up to max. It's worth it.
