No they arent seasonal. Charleston Metro area is active year round. In addition to downtown and plantations that get vistors all year, we have Kiawah, Seabrook, Folly Beach, and Isle of Palms all stay busy from retirees and guests and homeowners.

We have five new hotels going up now and at least three of them are looking to serve a clientele who will pay$300 or more per night. All Charleston hotels except for two charge under $150 per night. We have a cruise ships in port monthly.

But to really answer your question, these are not high school after hours and weekend jobs, these are high paced year round young professional jobs.Worker shortage a challenge for Charleston's hotels and restaurants | Business | postandcourier.com

But to name a few areas with jobs with good rates that are not filled by immigrants or illegals or high school students....

Hospitality Tourism Management - degreed
Chefs/cooks/Bar Tenders - culinary degreed/trade schools.
Tourism Business Management - degreed. our job growth especially in the tourism sector is growing exceptionally fast

My other favorite place. I guess IMO you cant go wrong anywhere along the coast between Charleston and Savannah. I mean its, quiet, rural, mostly pleasant, we don't stand for no cross breedin' of them races and there are tons of outdoor things to do and great food to eat. Its not for people who need loud places and drunk women though

That's the rumor....

Maybe those jobs are vacant because people don't want to live in Charleston? I would not bet on that, having been there and knowing it is a fun town. But maybe there is something that is turning young people away? Charleston has a lot of "Old South" charm; maybe that is it? A lot of Millennials seem to favor "hip" over "traditional". An old Navy friend of mine has been in Charleston for about 15-20 years, owns a business, and loves it there. But he's not in the tourism industry, either.

Yo... when did Mr Belding get so fat?

He's been fat for awhile, hopefully living off residual checks from MTV2 running SBtB in syndication. He had a small part in A Million Ways to Die in the West several years ago, haven't seen him in anything else aside from that Jimmy Fallon skit.

No...none of this... Charleston is growing by 42 people per day. It is factually one of the most desirable and affordable places to live. The main incoming demo is tech, aerospace and construction. Charleston's downtown is very cool. The nightlife is just fine while not on the scale of major cities. The H&T want young professionals and there just arent enough of them here.

The only major draw back to living and working downtown is transportation and parking.

I derailed this thread too much today. Sorry guys..

All good, bud.
My son doesn't like getting out of the tub until all the water has drained. I walk into the bedroom to get his towel and when I walk back in the bathroom he's taking a squat. I love being a dad!

Charleston is a place I'd definitely consider moving to.

Sorry brah we are full up of neocon alt right wannabes.

But, hey. He's got a clean record, and all his papers and shots.

Rabies, Distemper, and all that jazz.

DPT, even.

Maybe not AKC, but a friendly enough mutt – maybe even gentle with kids.

Oooo, the dookie in the tub, reps! That's not too bad at least, easy clean up. When we were potty training my eldest, I think we started a bit too young...she didn't quite understand the concept of what was an acceptable toilet. We found her one day watching TV, dropped trow, sitting on the couch and taking the Browns to the Super Bowl. It was an older, leather couch where there was a somewhat large gap between two cushions, so to her it looked like a perfect place to do her business I guess. Even though it was leather, there's no coming back from that...the couch was gone, it was time. We threw out that sectional piece (Making sure to wrap it in plastic and leave a note so the poors didn't try to take it on trash day) and kept the untainted parts until we could find a new couch.

Tonight, that little girl just had a parent teacher conference. She's almost 2/3 through her first year at Kindergarten and her math and reading are both well into 1st grade level right now. It looks like she's going to turn out all right! Much prouder of her now than I am of our potty training episode.

My 6-month old is currently getting over a pretty nasty chest cold that started as a stomach bug and then worked its way up.

The poor guy's been terribly congested and had a cough for almost three weeks now.

It's finally clearing up, and he's back to acting like the happiest baby on the planet, but he's still got a little bit of congestion that he has to cough up every now and then. But, since he's 6-months old, he doesn't know to spit that shit out when he coughs it up, so he just swallows it. Some gets caught in his throat again for later, and some hits his belly.

It's like playing Russian Roulette every time we feed him right now, with all that snot just sitting in his stomach. If he takes his bottle and then avoids needing to cough for a half hour, he's good.

But this morning at 5:15, he woke up hungry, crushed 4 oz real quick, and then got himself a fresh, dry diaper put on. Just as I was sitting him up to move him back to his bed, the coughing started.

I squinted my eyes and started praying, but God was somewhere else doing things, and the puke happened. All up on me and the bedsheets and then my wife rolled over into it when she woke up to the commotion.

The little shit started laughing at himself for puking it out. Glad he felt better.

If you have kids, you have to get used to being peed on, snotted on, boogered on, puked on, pooped on, and some stuff coming your way you probably don't even want to know what it is. Just part of the package of having little ones. I always thought of it as being like having a Ferrari... you better be able to handle getting some grease & oil on you as the price of ownership.

To answer someone's earlier question: I had my first, and one and only (I think), at 35. I'd have been 34 if he hadn't shown up a week later that his predicted due date.

There are many, many stories, photos and videos but I'll spare you that ... for now, at least.

He'll be 30 in late July.

[Get out your calculators or channel your inner fourth grade arithmetic]

I think that I did a good job. I know that he did.

He is a joy, the love of my life and my dear, dear friend.
He's also come to appreciate me as well as know me, above – and beyond the fact that he graduated from a college (not quite as costly as ND) without a loan debt debt that would dog him most of his life. I felt that I owed him a clean slate. It wasn't easy or cheap by any means.

Any-old-who for Christmas he got me a a shmancy leather wallet embossed with ND's logo, some 86% cacao dark chocolate and a 14 DVD set of Grateful Dead concerts.

Gotta love the lad!

Just got home from work a few minutes ago and I found a shoe box wrapped up with a tag To "me" and From "my son." I asked him what this was for and he said it was for me being the hardest working best dad ever. Feels...

I believe you've posted pictures of the two of you here before although I may have seen them at the Post Office.

Reps for the Boba Fett, Cack!

But I have news for you, I already earned the title of hardest working, best dad. Well, maybe not hardest working...these video games won't play themselves.

When I got home tonight my wife was aggravated and showed me a pack of Oreos. She'd eaten one and it didn't taste right. When she looked at the rest of the pack she discovered that all the cookies were missing their filling and covered with small teeth marks. Our 5-year-old had eaten the filling out of every one of them and then stuck them back together and put them back in the pantry.

My wife and I asked my 3 and a half year old daughter if she would like to help us do some chores. She said no, but she would gladly take the money after we were finished (We've never given her or her older brother any money for chores yet btw). Never a dull moment with kids.
