What did he say?

Instead of just wishing Jay well, he referenced the "standards" that are set for players to return to ND, and that they would have to ask Jay about things in that regard.

Wasn't too hateful, but also made it clear that it wasn't necessarily just a simple Grad Transfer.

I actually buy the argument that BK needs to shut his yapper, pause his ego, and just let some things go sometimes. But NDNation takes all things to a whole new level, so this has opened up a renewed flood of Hate and Angst at ND Nation Dot Com.

“Jay understands the standards that we have here and he just felt like a change would be better for him," coach Brian Kelly said Saturday after practice

"We gave him the opportunity to come back if he could meet the standards that we set here. He’ll finish his degree this semester, so he’ll be a graduate transfer and be immediately eligible. We love Jay, we wish him the best.”

Hayes, who is very active on social media, saw Kelly’s comments and responded immediately.

What?..😂😂😂😂😂😂

online trolls always use the "elderly man/woman" as the victim to elicit sympathy. She was probably a homeless war veteran too.

And serves as a volunteer at the local homeless shelter when she's not serving as a volunteer at the local humane society.

"Timmy says:
April 8, 2018 at 8:54 am
I couldn’t agree more. I attended the game at USC in 2012 and ND continued to try to pass the ball instead of rushing for a touchdown. A mature lady, who had traveled from the midwest to attend her very first away game, was sitting next to me on the first row of the 40 yard line close to our beloved Irish. She yelled out “run the ball Brian” and Kelly lost his temper and approached her in the stands yelling and cursing at her to “shut the ++ck up and continued with other curse words and two coaches and a player tried to restrain him. He finished by asking a nearby Security Guard to kick her ” *ss the **ck out of here”. The guard ignored him. It was embarrassing and demoralizing. The lady cried as he went on his rant for 45 seconds before he was restrained and pulled back. Is this what we expect from someone who is clearly suppose to set an example for our youth and university? This story is correct. This is who he is and while I always cheer for the team, I always cheer for his departure as well."

This is an actual post on the site. Sad part is, there are a few on there who actually believe this.

Did this get deleted? I can't find it.

i thought just last year he was earning praise for holding people to these standards tho? This was one of the issues that got lost, and players were receiving special treatment.

Now, hes wrong for holding these people accountable?

I understand your point as far as taking the high road during the PC but at same time its getting the message out there that bullshit wont be tolerated.

Got it, so the issue is it being an unnecessary shot at Hayes. To be fair, it's not like Hayes doesn't deserve every shot he gets and then some and it wasn't like Kelly said anything that harsh... but it's not incorrect to have the opinion that Kelly should've just (for once)...

Jay Hayes had a foot out the door before we even got to spring ball. I heard that one of the main reasons he came back was because of his friendship with Tillery and Tillery nto going pro. He has a kid, which also makes his decision making process a little bit different from most players looking at a 5th year... I understand both transferring locales and looking at who is going to give him the best chance to play starter minutes and get a crack at the NFL.

I'm still seeing it. Poster is golfjunkie17.

OK I see it now. Thanks. They did remove the original comment from the article because the writer (or mod?) seemed to agree it was obviously fake. The quoted text is still there though in the thread.

I think you're missing the crux of it.

BK said in that presser "Khalid Kareem was going to end up winning the starting job anyway".

That's what sounded childish to say IMO, and what Jay Hayes' tweet was laughing at.

Matt Freeman at ISD said after Jay Hayes news broke, Jay Hayes would be starting against Michigan this year, and I have no reason to believe that wasn't the case, even if Kareem got a ton of reps (and deservedly so).

Uhhuh... ACross... Uhhuh...

We've covered this extensively in the High Court of Envy. The elders proclaimed that I cannot be the one they call ACross as he tried too hard to be funny, is a massive rep whore and only sees the negative in all things Notre Dame football...

The postmortems are great.

I checked over there tonight, just to see what they find to bitch about, even when things are going extremely well.

The only thing they can really get collectively angry about right now is Phil Jurkovec going into the game for three plays, thus burning his second redshirt game.

They are irate that BK would risk his redshirt in the off chance that they need him to play the rest of the way for some reason, meaning he would have played in 5 or 6 games.

I read that asinine comment as though the guy from NDN didn't understand the new red shirt rule. Perhaps I was wrong, but it sounded like he thought him playing on Saturday night was the end all be all to his red shirt, not a potential situation if he played in 3 more games.

If Jurkovec is good enough that we'd be upset about him not having a fifth year when the time comes, he won't be taking his fifth year.

Who was our last 5th year QBs? I feel like Evan Sharpley played a 5th but I’m not sure.

If Jurkovec is good enough that we'd be upset about him not having a fifth year when the time comes, he won't be taking his fifth year.

There were zero good reasons to put him.

1) it served no purpose. If you are going to play him, at least play him with the intent of giving him experience. A few plays up 42-13 with a minute to go letting him hand off the ball does nothing for his growth. Putting him in for the entire 4Q up by 3 scores would have been fine, and would have at minimum given him the opportunity to get in a rhythm and run the offense.

2) The bigger issue... Shit happens.... What if Book goes down vs Syracuse (he is on the mend) and is out for the year. And then BW struggles (already happened last year and this year) causing PJ to burn more than 4. Those two things are not whacked-out tin foil stretches. Book could easily be our starter for the next two years. PJ then has one year left.

The issues I have, is simply why put yourself in a less-than-optimal position concerning eligibility because of a few meaningless hand offs.

For reference only......

ND had a drive straddle quarters, with Dex taking one to the house with over 13 minutes left to play in the game. For argument sake, say the play calls were the exact same w/ or w/out BW after that run. ND ran 13 plays after Dex's TD (not counting special teams). All were running plays.

PJ wasn't going to get "experience" in this game one way or the other with the playcalling. IMO, if you have beef with what happened, have beef with the play calling, not when he get's put int. What happened against FSU isn't atypical for BK or most CFB 3rd stringers.

Doesn't address the point. What is the purpose of playing PJ for a few meaningless plays?

While I agree he wouldn't have had the full playbook, being in for a quarter at least allows for a bit of rhythm and experience. A few plays does not.

There's also not not a point to playing him unless you are counting on the 0.1% chance that he's actually going to get reps in 4+ games.

The value to playing him was to get Wimbush his deserved ovation on his exit. To eschew that for the highly improbable is completely over-thinking things.

Get him a taste of playing in ND stadium. The odds of him having to burn his red shirt because of that series are extremely low.

Carney? Henry? We do have two other QBs on the roster that are capable of taking a snap and handing it off.

We didn't have to eschew anything to give both BW a bow, and to save a game of eligibility.

Yeah honestly now that you mention it I'm surprised they didn't put in a senior walk on to hand it off and run out the clock. That's a good point.

Can you imagine Henry getting chants from the students. Not to mention his parents going ape on senior night.

I'm not trying to overreact, I just think it was stupid. And I think with Book's injury, it's a lot more than .1%. Sometimes you can have your cake and eat it too.
