1. Kizer is Subzero. Dude has ice in his veins. But that first interception was a horrible decision, but there wasn't really any good ones on that play. 3 options, take the sack, throw it away or force it. He chose the worst one, but it didn't look like he had time to throw it away, and giving up a sack is counter-intuitive for a QB. Still a rookie, so we can't be too mad. Made some bad reads early on.
2. Temple sold out to shut down Prosise. This is the 2nd time it has happened, and it has worked. That's when the receivers need to make plays to spread the defense out. Against Clemson, they dropped balls. Against Temple, the refs screwed them over constantly (we'll get to that).
3. Day and Rochell are just dominant, and Cage was impressive as well, he's vastly improved since the start of the year. Romeo...not so much. Schmidt....*sigh*, I think we've pretty much beaten that dead horse enough in the last 2 months. Just bench him already. Russell and Luke need to start showing up for the game. They always take so long to get in rhythm and teams are very aware of this.
4. Playcalling in the redzone and run calls....pretty bad. There were other factors, but we really had trouble establishing the run all game and there just wasn't much in terms of diversity in the run plays. It was like they kept trying to bash a square peg into a round hole. And no Adams/Flex? C'mon Kelly, gotta shake it up. That being said, Temple may have one of the best front 7's in college football, perhaps even better than Clemson's.
5. Officiating was a huge factor working against ND. No getting around it. After the 1st quarter, the refs broke a cardinal rule and changed how they looked at PI. They were having none of Temple's grabbing and mauling on our receivers in the 1st. After that, they pretty much said "f*ck it! Anything goes!". Once again, so many missed holding calls against Temple. They practically held Day and Rochell all game. Finally that targeting call. That's the kind of call that gets a ref fired right there. The original call was horrendous already, but add to the fact that they REVIEWED it and STILL deemed it targeting is what's truly insulting. If I'm Jack, I'm writing those officials names down. They are NEVER allowed to work a ND game ever again.
AAC refs doing what's best for their conference. This is the down side to be independent.
