GB how do you compare him and Hill? I just rewatched his highlights and he was very clean and impressive, but I do not think you can find many Wr's of Hill's caliber very many places in the country.

I like Alex a lot. Like you said he is very clean, very polished and will only improve his craft.

Hill has more upside, but is also more of a risk.

Anyway...How come Hill and Ofodile are on different lists than ESB and Strickland? What are the reasons?

The goal is to take three different style receivers from what I understand (Lucky, STL or GB correct me if I am wrong). ESB, Strickland, and others are the big deep threats. Ofodile, Hill and maybe another are the complete threats. Newsome, Lovette, and Humphrey Jr. are the slot receiver types.

Ok. I understand how that is classified.

But, to me it doesn't make much sense. why not just make it simple and say outside receivers and slot. Not these three different buckets.

Well in Kelly's offense there are ideally three WR positions. So year in and year out we'll be recruiting one for each position. Now it doesn't always work out that way but when the staff starts the board thats how it looks. The positions are termed W, X, and Z. W is the boundary side think Floyd. X is out wide on the opposite side and Z is the slot. If Kelly has one superior WR he'll move that guy in all three of these positions to be successful but I think we're going to start seeing him be more traditional with these positions. Part of playing faster, we won't be moving guys from position to position as much.

I believe the Y is the flexed out TE. Below is a description from BGI two years back. I'll look for something better.

At the slot (Z), look for Davonte Neal to start getting groomed for the position where he could start by 2013, after current seniors Theo Riddick and Robby Toma exhaust their eligibility.

At the boundary side (W), vacated by Floyd, fifth-year senior John Goodman was lauded by the staff for his improvement this spring and was named a captain for the Blue-Gold Game. However, behind him Daniel Smith has not caught a pass in his first two seasons and former QB Luke Massa was scheduled for surgery on a torn ACL. That puts 6-2, 205-pound Justin Ferguson in good position to play the physical position, especially because Kelly referred to him as “a very physical kid, a heck of a blocker.”

Out wide (X), Jones and Daniels basically seem to be co-starters, so Chris Brown could be in a position similar to Daniels last year. The South Carolina track star might need more time to develop, especially after missing a good portion of his senior year with an injury.

Still, the defensive line and wide receivers/slot appear to be the two most favorable position at Notre Dame in 2012 for a freshman to play.

Right. We aren't a two back team.

It's all good. I have have had to go back and read about some formation stuff from 2009 because we really haven't seen too much of what Kelly ideally envisions.

Thanks for the explanation.

Seems like the key for playing fast/uptempo is making sure each player has their own role, instead of moving players around like you stated.

Still I think recruiting outside WR's and slot should be fine. Once the outside guys get on campus move them to W or X.

I'll agree to a point. There are some guys that could play both W and X and I think Ofodile is one of them. However we didn't recruit Corey Robinson to play the X. Some guys are goin to be mold specific. I would much rather have ESB and Hill. Then any one of those two and Ofodile.

Any combination of strickland, ESB, Hill and Ofodile who make my day at Wr. Also if we could get Humphrey I would be very pleased as well

In BGI's breakdown of the recruiting weekend they said that a lot of people believe he is a lock to Missouri because of his family ties. They continue to hear that ND is very much in the mix and if its not Missouri its ND.

I think we'll need to make a big impression to pass Mizzou.

Now that DGB is gone might make him that much more important to Mizzou....

Update from BGI, we are really selling academics. Was very impressed by what he saw at ND. Favorite part of trip was campus tour. Calls ND the right fit for him. His dad enjoyed it as well, which is important since he's the Mizzou alum. He still has some visits to take but after this visit we are right in the mix. Decision by end of May or early June.

If he's making a decision that quickly, it must point strongly toward Mizzou, yes?

Most believe thats where he's leaning but he has some more visit to take. I'd say that we are second to Mizzou right now but he really had some great things to say about his visit.

Rock Bridge students tend to be more "preppy" than the other 2 Columbia high schools (Hickman is rather hood rat), so that could help us. He'd probably identify better with ND students than if he came from another area school. But, like I mentioned earlier, Rock Bridge sends very few students to ND and Columbia isn't an ND town.

IMO, we need him to visit again before I feel like he'd really come to ND.

Right, I'm just thinking that if he doesn't change his timeline it's probably bad news for ND whereas a delay means he might be truly considering non-Mizzou options.

While Hilliard was quite familiar with the Irish, for Alex Ofodile, WR, 6-3, 185, Columbia Rock Bridge High School, Columbia MO his trip to South Bend for the Blue-Gold game represented his first time experiencing Notre Dame. He wasn’t disappointed.
“It went really well,” he said. “I was impressed by a lot of things and got to learn a lot more about the school.”
Ofodile learned quite a bit about the tradition-rich atmosphere of Notre Dame.
“When we were taking the campus tour, they had a lot of stuff like the Main Building and Touchdown Jesus, just learning about the tradition,” he said. “I got to sit down and learn more about the academic side of the school too.”
Ofodile was obviously impressed by Notre Dame’s academics.
“I think the graduation rates for minority football players is something like one hundred percent,” he said.
The talented Missouri receiver currently holds offers from Notre Dame, Missouri, Alabama, Oklahoma, Florida State, Ohio State, Penn State, Tennessee and Clemson among others. Obviously, the Irish have some stiff competition, but they appeared to have made an impact during his unofficial visit.
“They were really down to earth,” he said of the Irish coaches. “They just kept really straight with me. They didn’t really pump up my head or anything. They just told me how it really was and what it would be like to go to school there. I definitely like that approach the best. I think I can trust that more than anything else for sure.”
Notre Dame’s offense during the Blue-Gold game made a positive impact upon the four-star receiver.
“It was definitely impressive,” he opined. “Their receivers played really well and made a lot of plays downfield, so it was really fun to watch.”
Ofodile does have at least one connection on Notre Dame’s current roster. 2014 recruit, Jonathan Bonner and he played Little League baseball together.
“He (Bonner) was just saying that he has family that went to Notre Dame and with the tradition of it, there’s no way you could turn it down,” Ofodile remembered. “He was just explaining some of that stuff to me.”
Ofodile hopes to make a decision before the end of May, and plans to take several other visits, including one next weekend to Alabama. He intends to take other trips as well but doesn’t yet have those finalized. He was clear, though, that the Irish would be under consideration.
“They’re definitely in the mix,” he said. “I’m definitely going to keep in touch with them and go from there.”

I don't know how much any recruit actually believes the stuff coming out of his own mouth, but I definitely like hearing those kinds of things. I think that's a good tact to take w/kids - just play it straight up, here it is - and our coaches do it a lot. I would think (hope!) that kids feel they could trust that, like Odofile said here.

Again, tho', not that that may matter all that much in the end...

This would be the time Blake is visiting I assume? Perfect. Maybe Blake can give him a haircut.

For the non-twitter folks, apparently a hobby of Blake's is giving haircuts to anyone who wants them. For some reason I think that's funny.
