I dont know, BIG12 is pretty top heavy with Kansas and Texas will probably get back to the top again. Big East has a bunch of solid teams, but Kansas is a title contender every year.

Baylor will drop back down soon enough. If Louisville does join they will be a contender for a conference championship every year though.

Mike Frank just posted, and this is big news because he REFUSES to post rumors, that he has heard from a very reliable source that ND has been invited for all sports but football with the stipulation of 4 games a year against Big 12 teams. He makes a note of saying he hasn't heard if it is "done" but that at worst it is a very solid rumor.

4 games a year would allow us a lot of scheduling flexibility and the ability to retain independence. Still hope we drop Michigan though.

wow 4 isn't bad...earlier they were saying 6. Considering we usually play 3 teams in different conferences that's not a bad thing considering we are moving to a better conference....but those 4 games could be tougher opponents so I would still hope ND schedules a few softees out of the norm for the years they don't play the ISUs or Kansas

Boy, I could really get behind that. I was thinking 6 was too damn many. We could easily keep the SC and Navy games, and rotate Purdue, Pitt, BC, Michigan State and Stanford games in there. I'd be fine with dropping the skunks from the schedule, considering that we'd almost always have either Texas or Oklahoma as one of the Big 12 games....

If those four teams include a yearly thing with OU or Texas or especially both.. I say ND has to drop some traditional rivals... like MSU and Michigan just for an example

Orangebloods.com - Sources: Irish Olympic sports likely headed to B12

As part of such a move, Notre Dame, which has a contract with NBC to televise its home football games through the 2015 season, would agree to play up to six football games against Big 12 competition (but most likely three or so to start with), sources tell Orangebloods.com.

Notre Dame would maintain its independence in football ... for now. If the Irish ever felt compelled to join a conference in football, the Big 12 would be ready and waiting for them.

“@schadjoe: Delany: We have discussed all formats. There is a strong consensus for a four team playoff”

“@schadjoe: Delany: The presidents will also bring up the Plus One”

I won't believe any of this until Brian Hamilton tweets it.

“@ChiTribHamilton: #NotreDame AD Jack Swarbrick: "We have developed the consensus on a four-team, seeded playoff."”

“@ChiTribHamilton: #NotreDame AD Jack Swarbrick: "We are close, and we look forward to next week's meeting." Refers to Presidential Oversight meeting in DC.”

It will be interesting to see how they choose the Final Four. Will it be off of existing BCS ranking calculations (nothing left to doubt there - lol); use some sort of conference model; polls; committees; computers; something even dumber?

All I know is looking at the basketball tournament and how much angst there is over who is the 65 and 66th teams versus who got left out; how much fun will it be to watch heads explode over who is #3, 4, 5, 6, etc? Grab the popcorn fellas, that will be fun to watch (unless ND is #5). Just imagine how p.o'd we all be if a 10-2 ND team with this years brutal schedule just misses to an 11-1 Va Tech team that beat the likes of Duke, Bowling Green, Austin Peay, Cincy, and the other brutally tough ACC teams?

I'm all for it though, as there is typically 2 or 3 teams that truly belong. It will just be "interesting". (Hopefully this is the right context for "interesting")

Stupid move in my opinion. Only the football factory schools will be in the top 4 every year

How do you define football factory? Stanford would have been quite close last season. If we're 11-1 we should make it most of the time. And, really, only "football factory schools" are good enough to win the national championship most years anyway.

Well, its still possible, especially if Louisville moves, Swarbrick is smart, he wont just unleash all the behind the door talks. I could easily see the move to the BIG XII and 4 BIG12 games a year is fine with to be honest. I would like to keep Michigan because we are recruiting rivals. Get rid of MSU if you need to.

No. You can't play Michigan, USC, and OU/ Texas every year. That's just dumb.
