Stanford vs ND 2016

Stanford vs ND 2016

For those declared recruits who had offers from both ND and Stanford:

Khalid Kareem - Notre Dame
Curtis Robinson - Stanford
Nygel Edmonds - Stanford
(Chacho Ulloa - Stanford - had offers from both, but he did not seem to have been a priority for ND)

For those recruits who have still not declared, but have offers from both:

Jeffrey McCulloch - ND, Stanford are both in favorites
Demetris Robertson - ND, Stanford are both in favorites
Jonathan Jones - ND - High, Stanford -none
Caleb Kelly - ND - High, Stanford -none

Jordan Fuller - ND High, Stanford - none (No Official visit to Stanford)

Frustrating to see Stanford beat ND this year and also roll in their bowl game. I kept waiting for Shaw to run that program down. WTF?

Kareem never really had much interest in Stanford, but he was a high-talent, high-academic guy that was definitely offered (and also offered by places like Yale) so I'm OK calling that a win for us. Curtis Robinson is a guy we REALLY liked but him being from California was too much to overcome. So we're 1-to-1 head to head on those guys.

Ulloa we literally passed on in favor of other DBs, and Nygel Edmons wasn't recruited at all. We don't even have a profile on him. He was allegedly "offered" well after being verbally committed to Stanford, and then we filled up on CBs. So I'm not going to count either of these guys.

The three linebackers and Robertson... I think you can definitely count all of them. McCulloch is being recruited hard by Stanford. Robertson lists Stanford as a leader and is trying hard to get in. Jonathan Jones had a top 5 of Notre Dame, Stanford, Duke, Michigan, and Oklahoma. Caleb Kelly was really recruited hard by Stanford early in the cycle but he wasn't really buying what they were selling apparently. He's a great student, so I don't think there is an admissions thing with him.

It's those 4 players... who are all varying levels of elite... that will decide how we did head-to-head with Stanford this year.

There was a Stanford commit playing WR for the West in the Army AA game... the guy was a STUD. Gonna be a thorn in ND's side as a deep threat for a while.

Well he looks awfully big for a safety.

This is your boy, apparently he looked pretty good at Semper Fi, at least from some writers. Watch ND try to get in on this recruitment with 3-4 weeks left, now that we've decided we should recruit a DT.

That would be nice. A good friend of mine back home thinks he's in the same class as Darius Latham or Sheldon. Sounds like he dominated Indy this year, even with Peters and Johnson getting all the press.

Don't want him coming back to haunt the Irish. Why couldn't he just go to IU dammit?

Stanford DL takes a big hit for next year, losing two starters and three others. Solomon Thomas (DT) returns but the rest of the DL returnees is a Soph and two Freshmen. Swann is their fourth DL commit in this year's class. Perhaps they will pursue a graduate transfer.

(Stanford is also targeting Connor Murphy (WDE), but today Murphy left Stanford off his final five list and has not had an Official Visit with them.)

Nygel Edmonds recently decommited to Cal - their second CB decommit.

He's going to Ann Harbaugh with his babysitter. They're just sitting on it till NSD. He better suck at UM because his Mother would have given a kidney to have her son go to a good Catholic school.

Stanford lost three recruits in the last seven days. Five players have decommitted from Stanford this year.

In addition to Nygel Edmonds (CB), Chacho Ulloa (S) and Beau Bisharat (RB/LB) have decommitted. They are trying to flip a Texas verbal recruits, Obi Eboh.

Curtis Robinson is now rated a 5* per some services.

Zach Hoffpauir, who left Stanford football when he was drafted by Arizona, is returning to Stanford for his last year of eligibility after having had poor numbers in the minor leagues.

For a guy who would probably take a pay cut playing football professionally as opposed to entering the business world — Shuler majored in science, technology and society, whatever that means — that’s not a bad way to go out.

Yeah right, pay cut. $450k is rookie minimum right? Practice squad players make $6500/wk minimum. Let's see you get that first year out of Stanford working for someone else.

Our OL was much better than theirs this year, and I wouldn't trade Hiestand for pretty much anyone.

Stanford does a great job of staying in their lane, if that makes sense. They only bring in guys that should be at Stanford therefore they have much less attrition over time. They are able to build depth through having guys around for 5 years.

ND has been trying to bring in the higher level prospects that might not be perfect fits for the program and in turn has increased the attrition through transfers or academic casualties.

Hiestand is a great recruiter and good coach, but have you seen Stanfords power game?

What does a teams offensive philosophy have to do with the job an offensive line coach does? I don't get it at all.

And I think you are having a bad case of whatever here. Keith Gilmore was a real reason the Irish played as well as they did this year. You have a potential All-American in Jarron Jones, (yes, I said it), out for the season, and still put together a season like that? Because the problem with this year's defense was far, far from the line.

This coming year we will see. I still wouldn't trade Gilmore for anything I've come across.

As far as Harry, a number of people still don't like him. And want to blame him for the power game not being like it was in the old days. ND's offense doesn't play that way anymore. The blocking schemes are much more sophisticated, and difficult. It would be easier to be a power running team. But what would you give up?

Touchdowns. Quick strike capability. When is the last time we have scored as many points per game, average? We were up two plus this last season alone, and we ended up playing the number 2, 3, 4 team in the nation and 2 of the top 5 statistical defenses.

EDIT ADDITION : And making it harder for other teams to defend against you!

This last season is the first time we have had a quarterback that could run the offense Kelly has put in place. What does all of this have to do with the offensive line coach? Nothing. Nothing more than they have given the quarterback and the entire backfield the amount of time they needed to succeed. Look at the qb numbers, as well as CJ and Josh Adams numbers.

You do realize that they run a lot of power sets using O-linemen as TE's and H-backs? That's not our offense. Having said that, I wouldn't mind seeing us utilize that when we get inside the 10.

This has not really been an issue on our offensive or defensive lines though.
