And he did not play most third downs which is even more impressive

Weird how quiet that his year has been considering that he's a rookie starting at MLB. You would hardly even know he's in the league.

If he was playing better he would get more attention.

I think stepping out of the spotlight is a good thing for Manti after his disastrous start to 2013.

You two are at opposite ends of the country.

Follow the NFL quite closely and read a lot of national stuff. I think if people weren't sick of Te'o being in the media, there would be a lot more attention on the fact that he is a rookie starting at middle linebacker on a playoff team. Let alone that he finished #2 in the Heisman the previous year at arguably the most recognizable school in the country.

Hell even on IE, I think we've posted more in Cierre's thread than this one.

Just seems odd, but I guess there isn't enough time passed or enough stats for anyone to write a redemption story.

It's not a redemption story because he's only doing okay. He's been a two down linebacker who struggles against the run and does well against the pass. He's not out there playing like Luke Kuechly or Brian Urlacher. He's been mediocre to average.

Does well against the pass but isn't in on passing third downs? Hmmmm.

Truly is the weirdest thing. They don't trust him because of his 40, but on standard downs he flashes the same great instincts we saw at ND and is excellent in coverage.

On run defense, gets swallowed up way too easily. He's a very average NFL starter... so probably right where you'd expect a rookie 2nd rounder to be right now. He absolutely must improve in his run defense heading into next season.

I think it is funny that you call him mediocre to average when speaking about two once in a generation linebackers in the same sentence. Of course he isn't at their level right now, and he probably never will be, but he is in no way mediocre. He shows flashes pretty much every game he plays, and is able to take control of the defense as a rookie. Those are things that I would say are well above average.

Additionally, his run defense isn't up to pro bowl potential or anything, and I know he is pretty low on the NFL's list as far as production goes in that category, but he will get better as he adjusts to the speed of the game. He has never been a linebacker that takes on blockers and sheds very well. He has relied on instincts his entire career, which has enabled him to slip by blockers and make plays. Once he adjusts to the speed of the game I would imagine he will be capable of doing the same thing at the NFL level.

A) Football speed has nothing to do with straight line running.

B) Anyone who watched cfb in '12 saw a linebacker with some of the fastest reaction times around, with seven picks.

C) Most football "experts" are asshats. #AMIRIGHT??

One example of the aggressive anti-Te'o campaign by BFTB, one of the most read blogs in the Chargers community, if not the most.

If you check this blog, you will see a daily link with the title: Te'o was terrible against the run.

San Diego Chargers Daily Links: March 5, 2014 - Bolts From The Blue

Click and you will see this article:

FOOTBALL OUTSIDERS: Innovative Statistics, Intelligent Analysis | Run Stop Rates 2013

Funny thing is that, Donald Butler, the other starter ILB at SD, is even worse than Te'o as run stopper, but the headline is "Te'o was terrible against the run". It's sad because they generate currents of opinion and they always literally kill Te'o (with or without reason) and a lot of people say the same that they read. At the same time, they always excuse Donald Butler and even blame Te'o for his own mistakes. And this is a little example, there are worse stuff about Te'o (sometimes fair, but usually just bullshit like this). And not only about Te'o, his DC, Pagano, is destroyed even more frequently than Manti.

Fortunately, there are also a lot of people who is very tired of read how bad and terrible Te'o is. Just posted this because maybe someone take this web (not SB Nation, just this SD site) seriously..

It didn't have anything to do with te'o being a rookie on a broken foot.

The whole exercise was good to this point in the prose, "Obviously, Stop Rate isn't a perfect stat." The rest was too opaque to make a specific point, or a singular point, (about a specific player.) And just maybe that statistic is more of an indication or indictment of the team's defensive system, than an individual player.

Did anyone else see that from their statistics, Justin Tuck was the worst edge rusher? And the NYJ (BVG's old team) seemed to trend high in every category?

Just a couple of little things.

I have just had an interesting morning. Someone I helped and was supportive of in every step of the way. (Someone from the real world, not IE) Forced to communicate with me used it has a way to express vitriol. Do I like the person? No. Do I try to treat them with dignity? Yes. Do they hate me? Obviously. Why do I bring it up? Not just haters are going to hate. Some haters will go out of their way to shit all over themselves even, to express their hatred. It is if they are compelled to be sewage conduits.

All you can do is don't make it a win for the toilets of the world.
