Seems like this would have to have some impact on recruits. I can't imagine a 4 or 5 start recruit wanting to play for this type of crowd when they could go to another high academic university with much better fan support (not just Notre Dame).

Does anybody else see David Shaw getting hired away in the next year or two? He is one the best coaches in the game that no one really talks about. Plus I would like to see him gone.

His name will be on a lot of NFL shortlists I assume...

Can we hire some Russian bots to blast this to every football recruit in the country on an hourly basis? That is just not right.

Well, at least that smattering of fans get to be treated to a great halftime show by that classy, talented Stanford band.

Oh, wait...

It's not like I had to dig for those images. I Google searched "Stanford Band" and those were all from the first row of returns.

If Stanford is smart they find a way to keep him. Shaw isn't really a sexy hire. Maybe Auburn wants some stability and tries to bring him aboard, but I'm thinking Shaw sticks with the alma mater until they no longer want him.

Even if Shaw wanted to jump ship for another CFB job, I could never see him going to Auburn. That place is diametrically opposed to everything Shaw appears to stand for.

Yeah, Shaw couldn't last 10 minutes at a program that actually has a fan base, expectations, and a modicum of interest.

He wouldn't survive his introductory press conference at a school like auburn that is a pressure cooker.

Didn't he basically say that nobody in the state of Alabama is smart enough to get into Stanford? I can't imagine that'd go over well

Stanford does a very good job at persuading recruits not to actually attend the games, but I'd be shocked if every other coach in the nation didn't neg against them. I think most commits know the community doesn't care.

I literally have no idea why anyone would want to play football there. Yeah it has a good education, but so does 20+ other schools in the country that actually fill their stadium.

1) Top education at the P5 level
2) Among the best weather in the P5
3) Strong path to the NFL
4) Solid Alumni

I don't buy #2. The rest? Sure, but you can get that at a lot of other schools that can get more than 2,000 people to show up for a ranked matchup.

When I say that I don't buy #2, I know its beautiful weather but I'd rather play in awesome, loud environments every week. It also screams "soft" to me.

This. There's a lot of reasons not to go to Stanford, one of which being the crappy fan base and band, but there's a lot of real, decent reasons to go to Stanford too.

Huntsville Alabama is rated around top 5 for highest educated cities in the US. None of these people were born and raised in Alabama but it is a growing aerospace mecca. Boeing, Raytheon, NASA Northrup etc all in Huntsville. Doubt any of the high end professionals there went to Bama though but probably ND.

So, on the subject of Notre Dame v Stanford, November 30th, 2019... how difficult would it be to get tickets to this game as early as possible?

Talking to the lads and it seems like 6 to 8 of us would love to head down for the game.

Any leads or information would be sincerely appreciated!

Cheers and Go Irish!!

I could see Shaw going somewheres like UNC. They need a different tone there and he manages to get players to play for him.

He has connections to Stanford. If he leaves it’ll be to the NFL.

Has a football game ever been postponed because of smoke?

Cal-Stanford aka the Big Game will be played in the Bay Area (Cal home game) on Dec 1.

Next week Stanford plays at UCLA. Cal plays Colo at home. Move to Boulder?

Official Visits to Stanford are typically in January.

There are still plenty of tickets available for the Big Game on Dec 1 starting at $30 per seat.

Catching up on the Stanford scholarship situation...

After giving a QB walkon on scholarship in the spring, Stanford had eighty-one scholarship players. Five players (four from the Class of '15 and one from the Class of '16) who had played sparingly were not on the 2018 fall roster. One walkon was given a scholarship in the fall. Total scholarship number was then 77.

Sixteen players are out of eligibility. Arcega-Whiteside is expected to go pro but no decision has been announced. Another RS Senior has played sparingly and may end his career. Assuming no other attrition in addition to those eighteen fifty-nine scholarship players would be left. Stanford could give out twenty-six scholarships to the Class of '19. They have sixteen commits and one (Damuni) may return from his mission, leaving them with seventy-six total scholarship players for 2019. Without Arcega-Whiteside Stanford would have eleven Seniors/RS Srs in 2019.

While Stanford recruiting traditionally accelerates in January, only one (Henry verbal to Ark) Official Visit is listed. Two prospects - Cornelius Johnson and Aeneas DiCosmo - are possibilities with CBs favoring Stanford.

Couple of things to compare notes on.

1) I have Jack Richardson as a scholarship player
2) Ryan Beecher, RS JR ILB, came back from cancer treatment and was put on scholarship. I don't have confirmation by a reporter but it was on Stanford message boards several times.
3) Ricky Miezan is a scholarship player. I didn't think he was, but it turns out that stanford offered him a few days after signing day.
4) Noah Williams offered a scholarship in September
5) Jack Dreyer, RS JR OL, no longer on the roster
6) Austin Maihen, RS JR OL, no longer on the roster
7) Jay Tyler, RS JR WR, no longer on the roster
8) I thought Dylan Boles was close to getting a scholly or on one, but I think he's still a walk on.

After all of those notes. I have Stanford at 79 scholarships. They have 15 scholarship players who are running out of eligibility. They'll also have 10 5th years with options to come back. They also have JJ Arcega Whiteside and Kaden Smith as potential early entrants into the NFL draft. Also, Levani Damuni should be back in the summer bringing the scholarships up one more. Just taking away the 15 eligibility exhausters and adding Damuni, Stanford would be at 65. They'd be able to give out 20 scholarships and they also have 10 5th year options. So they could really be anywhere from 20-30, but I'd venture a guess and say they end up with 20-24 if they really want to hit their numbers. They really got hurt badly by under-recruiting the last cycle and not filling their squad with enough depth to withstand the entire schedule. Cornelius Johnson, Aeneas Dicosmo, Harry Miller, and many others will get strong looks between now and February!

Also, Ben Edwards only played in 3 games this season so even if he plays in the bowl game, he just turned into a redshirt junior with a possibility of coming back which I think happens and that is huge for their defensive backfield.

- I had counted Richardson and Noah Williams on scholarship.
- In addition to Dreyer, Maihen and Tyler leaving, I also have Wesley Annan and Paxton Segina not on the roster.
- I missed Beecher's and Miezen's scholarships.
- Certainly Stanford had room to give Boles a scholarship. Williams scholarship was noted under his bio on their roster. But I don't see any listed under Boles.
- I have not counted Damuni on the roster yet.
- Thanks for the info on Edwards and Kaden Smith. Switching Edwards to RS brings me also to 15 Seniors and 14 Juniors in 2018.
- Agree with you on depth. I have Hattis, Powell, Peek, and Butler from the Class of '16 playing very few games in their careers so far.

That brings me to 79, too. Reps on your continuing insight and numbers on Stanford.

I imagine that they would could come close to getting to eighty-five. With fourteen Seniors (including RS Srs) next year, he may be saving a few scholarships for '20 and for walkon scholies for next year.
