Love all of the changes but can understand where some would be upset. It's new traditions being made....

I think it would be cool if they made the new vinyl clad benches blue except for the students section...which would be green. I think that would be a nice and unique 'hat tip' to the student body.

I also think it would cool if they build 2 story parking ramp on the south end of the stadium. One level below grade and one at ground level. This would add more parking but also allow for the top of the ramp to become a 'tailgate park' with permanent shelters that could be rented out for gameday and other events. Each shelter could be dedicated to a person in the history of ND. Would come with a grill and seating..maybe even a connection for outdoor TVs. That could drive some revenue where all you need to do is show up with some coolers and you're good to go. The fee would cover security and cleanup, as well as, a nice donation to the school.

Heck, if they were really crazy they could setup a lawn where NBC could run a minor version of 'gameday' in the middle of Rockne park.....

I'm really starting to change my mind a lot about the stadium expansion. This is starting to seem more intrusive than I anticipated. Last season I would jog around the stadium at 7am before every home game - it's nostalgic because I have so many amazing memories there as a student. Now it feels like those are being trivialized by adding 2 monstrosities under the guise of progress.

The in-game atmosphere needs to change, but this doesn't feel right anymore.

I understand how you feel, but once the change in 97' happened it never felt the same anyway. I feel it could have been expanded in a much better way as to maintain the historic brick look of the stadium while increasing capacity. Imo, the transition that took place back then was far more drastic than adding on to the new stadium now. It doesn't even remind me of the stadium I grew up with anyway, so why not put the bells and whistles on it?

I think the look of the new additions corrects the mistake of the ugly press box and fits in more with the campus.

That's part of it but unfortunately they decided to still leave some exposed concrete. I think it would look so much better with that concrete bricked over.

Is this due to wanting to keep the history of the various gates into the stadium?

Ah yes for the band-dandies.

I like all those other facilities; they're definitely necessary updates. I just feel like the expansion is compromising the integrity of the stadium. As I watch ND shift its educational philosophy more towards a Midwestern Ivy, I worry that future students won't find solidarity with the school, but with flashy, new buildings. I'm afraid they'll lose a sense of the history of the stadium, which is an integral part of the ND student experience unless you're from China and never bought student tickets in your whole 4 years.

The history of the stadium, it's iconic look, and the gameday experience is a common denominator for all alums and current students. I don't want to lose that connection with future grads.

The iconic look was lost when the stadium was expanded in '97.

More info on vidya board and other renovations.

The video screen will be 96 feet by 54 feet, affixed to the wall of Notre Dame Stadium's south end zone.
In terms of square footage, that's about the size of the current video screen at the University of Minnesota and slightly larger than the one at the University of Oklahoma.
No "kiss cam" shots. No commercials.

LISTENING to coach D/ lou's podcast...they stated it was the acoustics due to the changes at stadium which was making it that much louder...not a shot at fans wearing orange

I want to be sure I'm reading that correctly. Is this saying that the staff was not pissed about the amount of Longhorn fans?

don't know that...just indicating the noise increase was from renovations...they stated the noise always left the stadium

Interesting. I believe both to be true.

Reporter: Did all the burnt orange in the stadium bother you?

BK: A little bit, quite honestly. I think in pregame, but... I mean it's, in pregame you're looking around, and you see it, and then it just kind of closes in after that. But, I was probably just looking for something to complain about at that time.

His body language made it seem like he was more than "a little bit" bothered. He went on to praise the student section but it's pretty clear that he was less than pleased with the rest of the fans.

not saying that didn't bother him...just noting what they said regarding the acoustics...BK did also go on to say that they may need to go w/ silent count which will also help on the road games as well...so again that indicated to me that it was the acoustics if he feels this will be needed in the future at home..idk

I didn't think it was any louder than normal. And I guarantee it had nothing to do with Texas fans. They cheered one time... on the long pass play. The rest of the night they were either sitting on their hands or playing tetris on their iphones.

Hard to blame someone for recouping their investment on a game which they thought wouldn't be close, especially when they were right. There could have been 80, 795 burnt orange shirts in the stadium and they still lose by 4 TD's.

Just a more basic Q: Growing up ND stadium was loud... there was a real home field advantage there, it was always a talking point before and during games (Believe me, I'm a loser that watches a ton of late 80s and 1990s game replays), they even had the famous 'too loud' flag in the 88 Michigan game... what happened? Was the mid 90's stadium reno a noise killer? Did the crowds just start getting older once ND faded a bit?

Then they shouldn't have gotten the tickets in the first place. When there's a waiting list for season tickets and a lottery to get into certain single games, it's a pretty dick move to gobble up tickets you're not going to use and then flipping them above face value.

In that regard, yeah. But I know long time ticket holders that didn't go and put the $1k per seat in their pocket.

This is the problem when you play a big fanbase team and being the first game of the year made it worse. There was 10,000 of them in Wrigleyville on Friday too. All of them in those creepy Columbia brand burnt orange fishing shirts.

Good question as I grew up watching those same games. Probably a combination of the crowds getting older and the program becoming mediocre. I also think ND didn't help themselves by becoming Quakers and drawing a line in the sand on progress (i.e. video board, music, etc...).

I was reading one of the Texas boards as they were discussing the campus/stadium experience. Every comment I saw talked about the beauty of the campus, friendliness of the stands, and the lameness of the stadium. Nobody could understand why they couldn't see a replay. They were not too impressed with the "old schoolness" of the stadium at all.

It's really none of your business, or anyone else's, to tell a ticket holder what they can or can't do with their tickets. It's their money, not yours. Sure, we'd all like to see zero visiting team fans at a home game, I was there and there were a ton of orange shirts smattered throughout the stadium. But the righteously indignant attitude that you have thinking you have the right to tell someone what to do with their tickets is BS.

Wow, you must be a genius, huh? First, having an opinion doesn't mean you're telling anyone what to do. I wouldn't tell anyone how to parent, but I still think it would be messed to take your nine year-old to see Straight Outta Compton. Second, there is one entity that DOES have the right to tell ticket holders what to do, and that's the University of Notre Dame.

Murnane Family Ticket Office :: UND.COM :: The Official Site of Notre Dame Athletics

Season Tickets:

If an individual, faculty/staff member, alumnus, company or other entity is found have sold or offered Notre Dame athletic tickets above face value, offered or sold tickets as part of a travel package, lodging or rental agreement or accommodations purchase, or when tickets have been sold via a ticket broker/agency who in turn resells the tickets for an amount greater than face value, they will be denied ticket privileges for a minimum period of 5 years. In addition, the individual will not receive the same seat location if/when the privilege is reinstated.

Individual Game Tickets:

If an individual, faculty/staff member, alumnus, company or other entity is found to have sold or offered Notre Dame athletic tickets above face value, offered or sold tickets as part of a travel package, lodging or rental agreement or accommodations purchase, or when tickets have been sold via a ticket broker/agency who in turn resells the tickets for an amount greater than face value of the tickets, they will be denied ticket privileges for a minimum period of 2 years.

Repeat offenders will be subject to stricter penalties up to and including permanent revocation.
And please don't give me some line about how "it's okay because ND doesn't bust people on it." That has nothing to do with whether it's right or wrong.

All I know is that when I show up Oct. 17th I'm standing as much as possible and losing my voice in the process.

Individually sure, we all have rights to do what we want with what we spend our hard earned money on within the legal limits of the law and I'm sure each individual who sold their tickets thought "easy money, why not". Collectively though it was a bad showing on the part of ticket holders. Can you at least admit it's in bad spirit as a fan to sell high to some away fans instead of giving/selling to other ND fans?

Explain to me how saying someone shouldn't get tickets in the first place is not attempting to dictate what someone should do, I'd be interested to see that.

I can see your point on ND having an issue with that, I shouldn't have made the generalization of "anyone", so I guess I'll rephrase that and say that unless you work in the ND athletic department enforcing this rule, my point still remains. It doesn't cause you or I any actual harm other than a chapped ass seeing the opposing team in the stands, save the effort for something that is really important in life. Sorry for the "big picture" tangent, but that bothers me when I see that and it has no affect on that individual, but the implication of the statement is that it somehow does.

Absolutely, see my 2nd post on the topic.
