You are worried and have been worried for good reason. ND recruiting insiders have been quietly worried about him since he started talking about taking that Clemson visit months ago.

I will, say though, we could get lucky and keep him. His recruitment reminds me eerily of Folston's last year. Folston's was all Irish supposedly, but one school kept hanging around and hanging around (Auburn), just like Yeargin and Clemson. It just never goes away. And like Folston, Yeargin keeps saying there's nothing to worry about, when there really is.

The thing that most don't know about Folston is that he tried to flip to Auburn on Nsd but they had no room. There's a reason we didn't get his fax until much later than everyone else, and it wasn't the bs excuse they were giving. And it turns out that Folston is very happy at ND. So there's hope...

Hope Yeargan hears that story!

Great insight NDLA. Keep bringing it!

I've heard a couple people say Folston tried to flip as if it's common knowledge. Where's the source on that? I hadn't heard anyone say that until a month or two ago.

I was told by a reporter last summer. This reporter has impeccable sources.

There is a reason Folston didn't send his letter till like 4 PM. I was so jacked up that night with how we finished that class.

He had a chance to flip when he visited his friend at Clemson earlier in the year. I think he'll land here.

I would caution that since then Notre Dame has lost his DC/position coach and signed multiple linebackers. So the coaching change and uncertainty with the scheme and depth chart/early PT concerns could all be factors here.

which coaches have visited him in home?

I agree, but given the above I think the staff is covering all bases.

Has he seen BVG's stache and feathered haircut in person? To me, that encounter will seal him as Irish!

Have to think that if he's as advertised, PT won't be a problem.

I still really don't understand why there is an assumption that he's an elite prospect. Maybe that's just me. There seem to be a lot of people here that love him. I just don't see it, and his ratings don't reflect it either. He's not one of the higher rated recruits in the class, and isn't the top prospect at any of his projected positions. He's a low 4:s: by every service I think, and he's definitely a quality prospect, but who do we see him beating out for PT?

Morgan? No. Hill? I don't see that. Trumbetti or Blankenship as a pass rusher? I don't see that either. I mean you can literally go down the list and the only people you can really even make a case for him beating out would be Sykes and Martini if we stayed in a 3-4. As a pass rusher... Bonner? It's tough.

His offer list is insane though (at one point, he was either 1st in total offers or 2nd -not sure if still true).

Yes, Florida told him no thanks because they were full, but a ton of colleges see his value.

His last tweet doesn't look very good. I'm on my cell so can't copy and paste but it's something to the effect of "having choices." I may be looking into it too far but at the very least he is thinking about other schools. He's not all in.

What the hell are you talking about? Aside from Morgan, he is our next highest ranked LB prospect. He is long and athletic, with a frame to add good weight.
Now that we have some LB commits doesn't mean we can afford to lose anyone. Remember how dire our LB situation was last year after a few injuries? Come on now.

Point out the specific sentence in my post that is inaccurate and then explain why it is inaccurate. I'll wait.

All I know is the coaching staff REALLY likes this guy. Versatile guy. He's been a major target all recruiting season. Have no doubt he signs with ND.

Completely agree.

Really not sure about that. I don't know anything, but the cryptic tweets, the silence from the supposed visit from our coaches, and the fact that he's stripped all things ND-related from his twitter makes me feel like it's a coin flip.

His offer list is insane though (at one point, he was either 1st in total offers or 2nd -not sure if still true).

Yes, Florida told him no thanks because they were full, but a ton of colleges see his value.

Almost none of those self-reported offers were committable. Florida wasn't. USC wasn't, even when they were in dire need of people during the Kiffin sinking ship. Michigan wasn't over the summer when he was looking to commit, but they showed some interest late. And that goes on and on.

He committed to ND basically by default when he realized that he wasn't wanted at any of his other top schools. That's why it came as such a "surprise"... he basically panicked and picked up the phone to make sure he could get on a commit list somewhere.

He had "interest" from all over because as we've said he's very versatile. You can find a spot for someone like him in just about every scheme. That does not mean he is "elite"... if he was, someone in Florida would've wanted him. He'd also not be rated where he is by the services.

And to all the talk about him as a LB, he's viewed by almost everyone as a pass rusher. Clemson is recruiting him at DE from what I think, but that might be out of date. The talk about him playing inside was all out of desperation early in the cycle when we were severely lacking at that position.
