I'd be happy with a defensive-minded football team playing in Nippert, and the recruiting would be tremendous under those two, but he'd need to hit a homerun in hiring an offensive coordinator to make me really happy.

Not to be a downer but Fickell's turn as the interim HC was pretty dreadful.

I think he was missing a ton of guys for a while due to Tattogate.

Yeah he was put in a difficult spot. I don't think you can read too much into that.

Something to think about - If Fickel and Coombs go to Cincy, and Schiano goes to USF, then OSU is going to be hiring an entirely new defensive staff. So we could be competing with them for the services of a DC and staff.

That worries me, but he was also kind of thrown into the fire at the top level of college football. He was nowhere near ready to lead a program like OSU.

He's been on Urban's staff long enough that I feel like he shouldn't be a total let-down as a CEO... it will just depend on how he puts together his offensive coaching staff and recruits on that side of the ball.

What does that do to OSU against Clemson? I mean, you gotta recruit at these schools. You think Urban will release them?

They would probably pull double-duty, game-planning and coaching OSU while on the phone recruiting for Cincy.

That's how Kirby Smart did it last year for Bama, and that's probably how Joey Freshwater will do it this year.

Misread the first quoted post. My bad, sorry. Carry on, nothing to see here....

I would expect them to stay on the OSU staff until after the playoffs. Cincy/USF could announce the hire now but indicate that the start date is Jan. 10 or whatever. Then the exiting coaches would gameplan and prep for the playoffs, but not recruit.

Sanford mentioned on local news as a potential candidate for the WKU job. I had not realized that he had coached at WKU on Willie Taggart's staff.

If they would like to keep up their tradition of ridiculous offensive output/success, then that would be a great hire for them.

I was not aware of Sanford's resume until very recently. I thought he was mostly at BSU. He has coached under Harbaugh, Shaw, and Taggart. I could see now why fans of other teams are interested in him. That is a pretty good coaching tree.

If I was Sanford I think I would take a job like that. Brohm presumably left the roster stacked. Easy enough to win right away and jump to a P5 school.

Unless Kelly names him OC and grants him the playcalling duties, why stay? His name won't be hot forever, especially if he is kept in the shadows by the weird Kelly organizational chart that has him doing who knows what.

They are all in Jack Harbaugh's downline from his HC days at WKU.

Interesting worthless info: That's where IU basketball coach met Joanie Harbaugh Crean while Harbaugh was HC and Crean was an assistant for Ralph Willard... Pitino's right hand man.

Given Kelly's tenuous situation there is no reason for him to stay at ND and see what awaits him.

Which is another in a laundry list of problems for your program when your coach is on the hot seat and the whole world knows it.

He's always needed to get that MAC level job like Fleck, Campbell, Babers, etc... WKU isn't the MAC, it's better. The roster is probably loaded, he gets to play Illinois and Vandy for signature wins and being in Conf USA gets him out recruiting in TX, LA, MS, AL, FL, TN, VA, NC. That's great training. Plus the pay raise will get him north of $750k.

If he gets the offer, he has to take it.

They are also looking at Bobby Petrino's brother Paul who's at Idaho.

Western's AD, Todd Stewart was my classmate at Miami U and a mgr for our basketball team. Small world.

Smart move for him, almost impossible to fail at Houston. I think he's there for ~3-4 years and then moves on to premier P5 school.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Ed fail at LSU.. Kiffin puts up 3 good years at Houston and then go get paid at LSU

Houston coming out saying decision isn't final yet. Major Applewhite is still in the running. USA Today broke the story on Kiffin, radio is saying it was premature.

He's going to rock that talent to some good seasons and be considered a prime candidate when we finally give up on BK.

Wait for it.

Applewhite it is then.

i would think that would be the furthest thing from the truth...Kiffin it is, unless he turns around and heads to usf.....applewhite has HUGE baggage from banging a coed and will likely be something he will have anywhere....he is an up and coming OC

I was just joking. Someone mentioned Houston putting a huge buyout in the contract which would prevent Kiffin from sneaking out of town at midnight a la his Tennessee exit

From The Texas Vatican Regarding The Election Of Pope Lane

From The Texas Vatican Regarding The Election Of Pope Lane

Houston: Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin will be the new head coach at Houston, per a report from Dan Wolken, who adds that school president Renu Khator is the only person needed for the final OK. However, a number of others, including Joseph Duarte who covers UH for the Chronicle, are reporting that no offer has been extended and no decision has been made. Houston AD Hunter Yurachek tweeted grey smoke, indicating no decision yet.

Love it.

USF appears to be nearing a deal with Charlie Strong for their vacant HC position apparently

Charlie Strong recruiting in Florida will dominate the AAC for as long as he's there, except for every third year where [coach] has Houston in the mix.
