no....not even close.

those guys signed and from all accounts have been happy with their decisions, except for MAYBE a brief moment with GB

They were all guys who commited and then wavered. Vanderdoes signed and never got on campus. With the PT he was in line for i venture to guess he'd have been very happy.

Also from trainers I have it on good authority that Nix hated it his Freshman year.

Al golden to PSU intensifying...Also Larry Johnson told a recruit that a decision on a coach can come in 3-5 days.

That being said we all know what coaches tell recruits means nothing.

Apparently he, Tuitt, and Lynch kind of grouped off apart from the rest of the tam a lot during practice. Nix whined about his ankles hurting etc. My point is you have no idea how a guy is going to end up once he gets somewhere. The whole "he wasn't coming here no matter what" smells like UM's "we dodged a bullet" refrain when they whiff.

Everyone has concerns / frustrations about their job. Not sure what your point is here.

Regardless, I think Paterno supporters had little to no impact on his decision to leave. He was offered the NFL job he wanted and he took it. He's acting in self-interest like everyone else.

I respectfully disagree. He may have always had intentions on getting back to the NFL, but the environment at PSU expedited his exit. Even if it was off the record, why would he say that if he didn't feel that way? One thing to note, it wasn't just fans that caused him to feel this way, but he was getting "advice" from influential boosters, sports radio, etc.. He was hearing it almost on a daily basis.

Apparently a lot of discussions between Texas and Jim Mora... would laugh my ass off at Vanderdoes if this happens.

The more I think about it, the more I can see this happening...and being a pretty good hire for UT.

I think if Mora were to land a job such as Texas, the allure of going back to the NFL might drop. It's like hoping for a Lamborghini...and getting a Ferrari instead. Not a bad 2nd place prize.

I think many of us were surprised when he took the ucla job and questioned if he would work out as a college coach. I think he's done well in his 2 years in LA and has learned how to play the game and what it takes to succeed in college. I could see Mora end up being like Petey (well, up until he took the Seattle job)-- kind of an also-ran pro coach...but an awesome college coach.

Texans is a good job? Maybe last season, but this season they won their first two games, and then lost every one after that, thats how you "win" the number 1 pick. Last season was less the norm and more the exception to the rule. They're 79-114 in the last 10 or so years they've been in existence, mostly losing seasons. Theres no real history there, they might as well be called the Houston Jaguars....another "meh" expansion team.

The Texans gig is a good job. They are loaded with talent and have a good owner. The problem has been Kubiak and the lack of a good QB. Being a Colts fan it became pretty easy to predict how the games against the Texans would play out. Kubiak always put too much emphasis on beating the Colts and when they didn't there was a big letdown by the team and they fizzled the rest of the season.

I don't think changing the HC to O'Brien is going to take them to the Super Bowl, theres something more missing. Outside of the 2011/2012 seasons it's been .500 seasons and usually worse in the Texans' short history. I don't see anything special there. Yeah, they've got a lot of talent, but outside of those two outlying seasons, that talent hasn't translated into wins. Just win, baby, thats all that matters. I'm not sold the Texans are for real until they can consistently win. They definitely didn't do that this season, 14 straight losses stings.

I think the Texans job is the best one out there out of all the vacancies. I get your point about losing 14 straight, but ill point to the Colts with Peyton Manning injured. The team got the first pick even though they had a bunch of talent. Then they get the first pick, get a franchise quarterback, new coach, new GM, and they are back to a winning team. I don't think its far-fetched to think the same can happen to the Texans with their talent on D and drafting a franchise qb with the first pick and a new coach.

As mentioned they get the first pick this year and they have plenty of talent. They just need to get the right coach.

Things can turn around so fast in the NFL too. I mean, the Eagles were 4-12 and looked awwwwwwwwful last year and then this year they go 10-6 and win the division.

Plus it's the NFL. Anybody who has ever put on the pads dreams of having something to do with the NFL. And most head coaches have the confidence to think they'll be the guy to turn a struggling franchise around.

I had this conversation with somebody today about Stoops. Even though Stoops isn't an offense guy (what NFL teams are usually looking for in college head coaches), I said I could see him leaving for the NFL. It just seemed like things have been stagnant there for several years. OU recruiting has slipped (a little bit) over the last several years. The product on the field hasn't been quite what it was from, say, 2000-2008. On top of that, the defense (Stoops forte) has really not been quite what it was. In other words, I just don't know if OU can return to being perennially elite. Maybe Stoops needs a change of scenery? And I think Stoops is a pretty decent guy (on top of being a good coach), so I don't see him angering OU and moving on to another college gig. A pro job would enable him to get a change of scenery and not piss off Oklahoma fans (well, not nearly as much as if he left for another college gig). A place like Cleveland could be a fit-- an organization that is desperate for some stability and it's close to home for him.

But then OU probably played their best game tonight since the Texas Tech game in 2008. So now my theory may be out the window...
