Money does talk. When was the last time a successful NFL coach left to coach college ball? Anyway, it will play out and the powers to be at UT will make a hard run at their candidates. We shall see.

Dude...apparently you've never heard of Nick Saban or Lane Kiffin !!!

So, Texas is extremely confident they get Saban. Whats the prevailing thought in Bama country? T Town any insight into whats going on down there?

Not as much talk about it as one would think. I think most here feel Saban will continue to be the coach at Bama. Until something more substantial comes out - and not from a message board - I don't think anyone here is worried. But with all things... we shall see.

I know some peple who are worried. They don't think it's going to happen, just like they didn't think they could lose to Auburn. But when they momentarily consider the possibility, you can see the dread in their faces. Texas is the only other school that really makes sense.

The biggest tells that Saban to Texas is actually going to happen is that Saban has done absolutely nothing to shoot down the rumors himself, and that Texas insiders have been 100% adamant on it being a done deal for weeks.

You mean because of this...

On November 27, 2006, the University of Alabama announced that head coach Mike Shula had been fired. Saban was rumored to be at the top of Alabama's wish list, but Saban refused to discuss the job while his NFL season was still underway.[22] During the month of December 2006, Saban was repeatedly questioned by the media about the Alabama job, and he repeatedly denied the rumors in his weekly press conferences, stating on December 21 "I guess I have to say it. I'm not going to be the Alabama coach." [23][24] Saban did eventually meet with Alabama officials on January 1, 2007,[25] following the Dolphins' season ending loss to the Indianapolis Colts.

...you are turning Shalespeare on his head and saying...Methinks he doth protest too LITTLE?

i dont get this. why would nebraska make a lateral move if they make a coaching change and i live deep in sker country and i have no doubts fans would be at eichorst office door with pitchforks if this happened.

I don't think Mack Brown gets fired (this season) if Saban isn't on board. Ramble on Nick.

I assume the benefit is that Mack Brown has deep seated connections to TX talent.

I honestly have no idea, where does Nebraska's football roster come from, geographically speaking?

used to be mainly TX, CO but they get a lot more B1G country kids now with a scattering of FL, CA.

I know people are down on Mack Brown, but I do still think he is an upgrade to Bo.

Saban addressed it quickly when the story first broke. He addressed it again a few days later. Then, finally, he addressed it a third time. He has been very adament in saying he is staying at Bama. Outside of pulling out the 12 gauge, he can't do much else to "shoot" down the rumors. But, as I have said, time will tell.

It is weird that the rumors aren't going away though. Either he's leaving or UT people are seriously delusional, and I think both are legitimate possibilities.

He hasn't said a damn word about it since last week when the Texas sources on twitter actually came out saying it was a done deal. Every denial he made about the rumors was prior to that.

Agreed and I know they are just message boards but the Texas 247 site has been very detailed in the info they are getting. That doesn't make it true but it definitely makes it more believable. With that said much like OSU fans I could see Texas fans being very delusional on this as well.

So what are they waiting for? If it's a done deal why haven't they announced it? (Serious question; not trying to be a smartass.)

For one thing, Mack Brown isn't officially gone yet. There are rumors he is out but if he is fired/stepping down it's not going to be Lane Kiffin in the parking lot style; there will be a big make-nice media session.

i think this had been rumoured in previous seasons but when Mack goes it will probably be a retirement rather than a firing.

Oh yeah, I'm sure you are right. If it's true that Brown is out, Texas probably wants to let him "step down" gracefully.

I followed the John Gruden to TN fiasco because I found it to be so entertaining. There were a lot of people that wrote very specific details about meetings that took place and contract negotiations and etc.

I'll believe it when it's announced.

I'm not saying I believe him, but at a certain point, why keep denying it? As Tommy said, he's denied it three times. Sometimes you just have to say..."I've talked about that already" and stop feeding the media beast.

His wife has also denied it...

To be fair though, he has nobody to blame but himself for this. The way he handled coaching moves in the past gives zero credibility to his statements. Quite frankly, he deserves this constant hounding.

No argument. That's why I don't know if I can believe him or not. It's also why talking won't help him one way or another.

I wouldn't expect any coach to comment on every rumor out there. And neither should anyone else.

How many coaches say the same thing only to end up leaving shortly after? There are a few more that come to mind.

Bottom line for me is this... if he goes he goes. Good luck and thanks for a great job while here. If he stays, even better. Bama football will go on... after the Bammer fans meltdown happens of course.

Maybe you can find others who were as adamant as him. He actively attacked the media for suggesting that he might be going to Bama. Most coaches give the typical line..."I am the coach here and that's my focus right now." "I am not seeking any other jobs at this time." "I'm the coach of the Dolphins. We're focusing on getting better." etc.

Saban: 'I'm not going to be the Alabama coach' - NFL - ESPN

"I guess I have to say it," Saban said. "I'm not going to be the Alabama coach."

He's bristled at nearly every suggestion about him leaving the Dolphins since.

"I don't know how many times I've got to respond to rumor and innuendo," Saban said. "I have no control over that. I've stated what my intentions are and they really haven't changed, so I don't know what the issue is. And I don't know why people keep asking about it. What they talk about over there is their business. But what's happening here is my business and our business, and that's what we're focused on."
