Why all the cause for concern with Alize??
1) It was his first game back in a year
2) He had a hamstring issue not even a month ago (yes Kelly said he was 100%)
3) He played against Temple

I expect his roll to increase, but for those who expected him to get 7 catches for 120 yards and 2 TD's against Temple...give the kid some slack.

I'm not worried about Cam or Alize. I think once we got up, and realized we could just run it for fun, we held back and decided to save and sit on some of our passing plays. No sense in shooting our wad week one against a much inferior opponent.

Guys Alize looked bad.

You can sugarcoat it if you want, the reality is that he looked bad as a receiver and even worse as a blocker. Easily the most disappointing player from Saturday.

Now, does that mean he can't "wake up"? No. Does it mean we need him to do so to beat Georgia? IMO, No. We will see.

Here's the real question...

If ND wins by 10+, how high do we fly up the ranks? Georgia at #15 and in SEC tells me we would go to around 12(+/-1) while Georgia holds tight in 15-17 range.

SEC bias on our side?

Uh they would certainly be unranked. ND probably jump to 15 or so.

However our other 2 tight ends looked good.

Yeah. Alize dropped three or four balls. The concern is not that he wasn't the all-world freak he's been hyped as. It's that he probably graded out the worst of anyone on the two-deep, for sure of anyone on offense.
Now, could certainly be rust, especially if aggravated by his hamstring injury. And we have plenty of other options at his position. But would be nice if he could shake it off and become the sort of plus athlete receiver he's long been talked about as.

Not at all worried about Alize. Was discussed on podcast that he is a very hyper person and that he was too hyped up being back on the field after the long layoff. He'll be fine.

This qb discussion is so irrelevant. We don't even know who the better qb is between them. That was the only point being made.

Of course having a qb matters. But when you're playing either a B- qb or a B- qb, the qb who plays doesn't really matter.

The problem is that Eason was a C- QB and Fromm is a (???)... so the issue is that Fromm could be good... he's an unknown. You have no evidence that he is a "B-"... in the only game he played he was an "A" with an 89.5 QBR.

I say load up the box to stop the run, force Fromme to throw his way out until he beats us with his arm.

Alabama has a little thing called "All-Americans everywhere."

Your turn.

Proof that you don't need an awesome QB. You just need everyone else to be awesome.

I'd take ND's Qb over UGA's any day. Georgia always disappoints. ND by 10.

No one said you needed an "awesome" QB they said that "QB's matter"... and citing a top 20 QB that was drafted and played multiple years in the NFL as your counter-example is not making the winning argument you think it is.

Of course qb's matter. Aggies showed us that when they were miserable in the second half.

Greg McElroy still sucked though.

This is factually incorrect, and if you believe QB's matter then why did you respond to the post you did with half baked nonsense?

I don't get the concern about receiver. Yeah, it wasn't a great game, but I think we're forgetting how good Temple's secondary is. It's REALLY good. All four of those guys are fast, disciplined and experienced. So obviously, ND isn't going to get much separation from them.

The only thing from the receiver perspective I was concerned with was Mack. Yes, it's likely just rust and jitters about him being back, but he can't have those drops against teams like Georgia. And for the love of God he has to block A LOT better than he did on Saturday.

I'll say this, that Georgia lot seems very confident. Some people think we won't put up 10-14 pts on them. They also believe our right side is weak. I'm all for fandom but that seems excessive.

I am already jacked about Saturday night.

Murphy's Law States that it will end up being our left side that plays horrible, we put up 40+ and give up 2.5 points more than we score.

You should prepare yourself. :)

I'm still dumbfounded by some of the expectations for Alize on here.

You're willing to write him off, after his first game in two years?

Maybe he's rusty and anxious? Is it possible that he's emotional right now? Let the game settle and the player take over.

Let's give the kid a larger sample size than 6 targets before we write him off.

I'm going to laugh once he has first break out game lol.

I'm more dumbfounded that Vegas has us as 7 point favorites, but Koon thinks we will lose by 14 unless we can force two turnovers, one of them in their own territory.. I think we play the same game as we did Saturday and we win.. Georgia o line is bad and we can stack the box and make their true Frosh qb try to beat us

Does ND still volunteer to let the conference's officials come for home games? If so, any concerns/thoughts around having a SEC officiating crew? It's been how long since we've had SEC officials at ND stadium.

Last time a SEC team played in South Bend was in 2005 when Tennessee came into town. I'm not sure if it was SEC officials though.

The much maligned Paul Finebaum was just on Mike and Mike giving his two cents, and he was in favor of the good guys! Shocker!.... He said something along the lines of...."I guess i'm still old school, but for a true freshman to come in to Notre Dame Stadium, AT NIGHT... I just think that's too much, I like ND in this one"

Last I checked, visitors bring the officials, home team picks the replay crew. As for having an SEC crew, they just have to be better than ACC refs, and thats a low bar to clear.

He's hedging his bet, he's a jive turkey. He's using this hedge to boost the Legacy of Fromm. The SEC needs an elite QB to follow and represent the conference.

His narrative if ND loses will be "this kid is something truly special and will be for 3 years, to go in and beat a team with blah blah blah at night in his fist start".

Deep down he thinks Georgia wins. He just wants it to look even more impressive. F the SEC.

He also thinks if we give up more than two 20 yard carries, it's an automatic L... So... Lol
