Nobody else feels like OSU’s offense might be getting a little TOO much credit? There is no doubt Stroud, Henderson and JSN are dangerous, but if we are able to stop the run, i believe their 2nd leading WR returning from last year had like 11 catches on the season.

NDs short comings aside, I feel like OSU’s offense is being talked about like Olave and Wilson are coming back too.

I feel like if ND can protect the ball, stop the run, and roll coverage to JSN to make stroud go through his reads and force other WRs and to make plays that this will be a competitive game.
Jameson Williams transfered to Bama because he couldn't get playing time at Ohio St...I think their recievers are fine...

Their receivers are definitely more than fine, but Williams transferred because of 2 guys that are no longer there. They had 3 1st rd draft picks starting last year. They have at least 1 this year, but how big is the drop-off from Wilson to Harrison or from Olave to Egbuka/Flemming. Well find out soon enough.

Not sure where all the consternation is coming from. Ohio State lost to the two best teams they played last year during the regular season. They also have just as many question marks as ND, arguably more in terms of production outside the skill positions. I would give ND the edge in terms of O Line and D Line. That alone should make it a good game and provide ND with more than a chance to win. If those 2 position groups play like they are capable it could be Michigan State 2011.

I like Stuckey, but we probably should have thrown a truck of cash at Hartline. Maybe several trucks.

Doesnt this kind of prove my point though? Two of the 3 guys he was stuck behind are gone now, but you’re stilll giving them credit for it for this year.
No, they are deep with talent at WR. They don't have much returning production because they had experienced, first round draft picks in the way. It's like the Bama RBs is the 2010s. You always knew there was another waiting for his time to get carries.

Make OSU one dimensional minimize mistakes and we chalk up a win.

Harrison Jr. is going to be ridiculously good. Kid is a freak. WR room is the least of the Buckeyes worries.

I also have a problem understanding why people (media) think it’s Sooo Big a moment. Like a lot of these players haven’t seen the big stage? Hell, the man himself is Suckeyes alum. Surely he knows and has set these kids up for what’s coming Saturday night.

Let’s not forget that Fuck Michigan lost big time in the playoffs but beat OSU. Let’s not forget that they also have a new DC trying to implement his system. Shit doesn’t happen overnight! It takes years to get a team fully implemented into what you want. Talent certainly can mask deficiencies but you’re not talking about one offs here. We’re bringing a lot to the table. As long as there’re no Frost moments, ND will ready for this. Yes, we have a lot of new as well. But, I believe we will be more evenly matched than what we’ve been given credit for. Shit just feels different this year, I hope I’m not wrong. Go Irish!!!
because we have a qb starting his 1st game in prime time for all of college football fans to watch against the #2 team in the nation...yeah, it's fucking huge

Yes, JSN, Harrison, & Stroud went nuclear against Utah in the Rose Bowl. But Utah was playing their third string secondary as they were decimated due to injury. Not only that, Utah was winning or tied in that game for the first 55 minutes. That's the last data point we can go off of. I know their defense will be improved, and that we're on the road, but we are better than Utah. The doomerism in ND fans is a real shame because we should be unrealistically confident homers

I mean, i feel like we dont know this to be true at this point other than saying they have recruited the position well. The Bama comparison isnt quite the same either because so much of RB play is dependent on your Oline play and their lines were utterly dominant

Ha. The doomy-gloominess here is a lot. We're better on both lines. That should keep it competitive, at least. I could see them beating us with big plays on the outside and we just can't keep up on offense, but 52-7 or some such would mean us coming out and crapping our pants and I just don't see that happening here.

I’m not implying that it’s not a big deal, or a big game. Simply saying that I believe they will be ready unlike years past. The fact that it’s his first start in that environment is absolutely huge. But he’s also surrounded by veteran players, and veteran coaches to help him keep his cool.

Any thoughts on OSU DL/LB slowing down our run game? Seems like the best recipe for success is establishing a dominant run game early and often (to be fair that is true in 150% of games). I expect them (and every team) to stack the box and dare us to beat them in the air but our OL/TE/FB should be grading some roads out there. I think they have a fair amount of front seven defensive youth starting and on the two deep that should help us, especially first game of the season and with a new DC.

Fully expect our defense to give up some points- our offense needs to keep up or even better, apply some pressure.

We had 42 rushing yards on 21 attempts against Oklahoma State. I am not sure why anyone thinks we can run the ball with any degree of success until proven otherwise. I realize they were letting us pick them apart through the air in the first half, but we did nothing in half 2, rushing or passing.

I know it to be true. Ohio St receivers are going to light it up again this year. It may be one of the surest things in college football outside of Bama making the playoffs.

These RBs were drafted out of Bama from 2011-2016: 1) Ingram 2) Trent Richardson 3) Eddie Lacy 4) TJ Yeldon 5) Henry 6) Kenyan Drake...scrubs.

I think OSU is at the beginning of a comparable dominant run of WRs.

To be fair to Clarence Lewis, they'll find whoever they want, all season, and say hello repeatedly. They have arguably the best QB/WR combo in the country. I think Lewis can be good and still not look good against these guys. They're going to make a lot of people look bad.

I think this is and will be ND's game plan, but part of me is hoping they start out the game with a play action and Buchner gets an easy score to Styles to start the game. That's probably really irresponsible of me but that's the hope haha. Catch them off guard right away, keep them honest.

I'd bet they'll be crowding the box, but with deep umbrella coverage over top to prevent a play-action banger right out of the gate.

I wouldn't be surprised if Tommy has one of his middle screens or a seam shot to Mayer drawn up to start the game. Counter their aggressiveness or attack an empty spot to start things out and settle everyone down.

I take the ball if given the option. I run a lot of RPO, mixing it up with runs by Buchner, Tyree, Lenzy, and Estime and put 7 on the board to start out and shut up the crowd. Then I tell Foskey, it's due or die that you get to Stroud on his first possession. Force a 3 and out. Then I put Joseph back to return the punt and I tell him if there's even the smallest opportunity for a big return, take it. If he doesn't take it to the house I send Buchner out and and the first pass of the game is play action to Styles for a home run. Go up 14-0, shock the stadium, build massive momentum and tell them to absolutely pour it on until 0:00 on the clock. No prevent defenses, no bs, just punch them in the mouth for the rest of the game.

As most of you know, I’m an idiot. The last time I made a sports bet was 1996, so help me out. If I think the game will be closer than 18 pts, what kind of wager do I make?

Oregon @ Ohio State from last September on FS1 currently.
The Ducks went into the horseshoe as a +14.5 underdog and pulled out the victory. They got lucky it was a noon kickoff, and not a night game. Atmosphere is going to be completely different come Saturday night as we all know.
They won the penalty, and turnover battle, plus ran the ball at 7.1 year per carry clip on 38 attempts.

That is the recipe for success Saturday night in my opinion.
Don't beat yourself, and keep the ball on the ground as much as possible.
