Do we have a shot here? I'm always over optimistic, but the Buckeyes always seem to play their best when facing the Irish.

Seems Ohio State has their feelings hurt again. They sure are a sensitive bunch.
And they’ll all point to the frozen five as if that doesn’t actually prove the point

Already trying to debate how high of a spread to put on the week 1 prediction poll for ACamp.

Right now I'm leaning pOSU 75+, but he might not think that's enough? Still debating.

That being said, I think ND keeps this one close, certainly closer than the experts think at ~+13.5 right now. I think our defense will be legitimate enough to keep them in it until Buchner and the O find some success.

Lol!! I was literally just thinking,… ‘no matter what the vbuck spread is,… it won’t be enough’

Honest to goodness

Maybe I'll just get video game silly and put 99+. Can't touch triple digits...just can't do it.

"Marcus Freeman has some sort of an agenda against Ohio State"

Yeah, NO SHIT! It's called the "He has to recruit against Ohio State on a yearly basis for the top players" agenda.

Seriously, it's laughable the level of stretching the media doing with this take. ND is more academically rigorous than Ohio State, the school Freeman actually attended and attained two degrees from? Well, stop the f*cking presses!

And yeah, pointing out the differences makes sense, because Freeman has to promote his program's brand. Part of that is the difference in academic prioritization and prestige. Truth hurts I guess. I'm an ASU grad, but I'm not going to sit here and say my school's prestige is on par with ND's. It isn't.

I am getting more optimistic about this game... OSU lost the left side of their offensive line. The defense is switching to a 3-3-5 which will take some time to gel and they lost most of their defensive line which was their bright spot on an otherwise bad defense. I really think ND can dominate them in the trenches. ND will have a field day with zone reads and QB draws if Buchner can do enough with his arm early on.

What were the demeanors of the two teams, Oregon and Michigan, that beat Ohio State last year? I didn’t really watch the OR game, caught a bit of the Mich game. I imagine a tense or preppy demeanor, like an overly proper catholic school looking to appear perfect on TV in Freemans debut would be the wrong attitude to bring to this fight. If I remember right, Michigan players were downright angry, pushing, shoving, and celebrating after each and every play, and acted the entire game like they were at war. I hope we come angry and wanting blood. While we don’t share Michigans anger towards them, I hope the team can find that similar spirit to channel towards them. Not saying we take helmets off or wear chains and look like Miami, but Michigans attitude would suffice. Hope to see fire from freeman too.

I imagine a calm demeanor, like an overly kind catholic school looking to appear nice on TV, would be the wrong attitude to bring to this fight. If I remember right, Michigan players were downright angry, dirty, pushing, shoving, and celebrating after each and every play, and acted the entire game like they were at war. BK's business approach was sorely needed, in all aspects of ND football, including gameday.

Now, to take a step forward, we need something more than that. We need emotion that BK couldn't get from his guys, and it needs to be deployed at key times. And that can be dangerous! The emotional rollercoaster can cost you games it shouldn't, between letdowns and trap games. It's hard to stay 'up' like that consistently.

But I think Freeman seems like the kind of guy that will know how, why, and when to push those buttons. He's already embraced the underdog role for week one, saying he hopes Ohio State is favored by 40 or something like that. I bet he'll reign that in with his *public* comments as we get closer to game day... but in the lockerroom, I'd be willing to bet that's he's going to be playing the disrespect card, tugging on the heart strings, and yelling about shaking down the thunder in Columbus. Let's see how it plays out.

Ohio State has a DC now.

ND had a great DC last year. Still took a few games to get up to speed.

Knowles ppg defense by year:
2021: 18.3
2020: 23.5
2019: 27.0
2018: 32.4

I am sure he will be fine. It won't be a snap of the finger.
