Clemson I thought we could keep it close but needed to get a couple turnovers or bounces to go our way to win..

This game I have 0% confidence and am really hoping we won't lose by 20 (Truly believe we will)

My buddy is getting married during the game... well he got married seven years ago but I have video.....

Worse. Mainly because the defense isn't quite as top-to-bottom solid, particularly at ILB and Georgia likes to run the ball with an NFL back behind NFL offensive linemen. I thought against Clemson the defense was good enough to keep ND in the game -- and to be fair, they were while Julian Love was in -- so ND had a chance to get lucky and pull off an upset if the offense could make a couple plays.

This game? Seems like the offense will need to score 30+ and I just don't really see that happening.

This is where I’m at. I expected it to be a closer game but also figured CLemson would likely win. I also think Book has looked shaky in that game & the two since. Hopefully, he knocked off the rust last week late in the 2nd quarter.

I felt more optimistic going into Clemson, but I think that's partially impacted by the Clemson result and knowing we had a better team then. Georgia doesn't have Trevor Lawrence but Fromm is arguably the next best QB. And Georgia's line is significantly better than Clemson's, as is their LBs.

I think Georgia's lacks the 1-2 generational talents Clemson had, but I think they have more talent overall.

Much worse. If it was a neutral field I'd still say worse mainly because of our defense. We also don't have a few weeks to prepare for this game.

I guess you and I are the only IE members who read that article, which actually provides visual proof the blame can’t be totally laid on the OL. Actually the OL did what they were supposed to do. It’s the QB, TE’s and RB’s that were the issue on those short yardage plays. But, everyone on IE wants to place blame on the OL without using their brains and digging into the play.

I think the OL is just as guilty b/c if you go back and watch the offense the guards & center struggled mightily firing off the ball. They were getting torpedoed and Book or the RB would having no one blocking for them.

Is this a thing? Do coaches actually get so meta that they are setting up opponents 3-4 games down the line? Can anyone think of clear-cut examples where ND did this in the past?

This isnt always the case. The OL was for the most part "catching" the man across from him. Limits need for high effort and chance of injury. Not saying its good, but it happens more often than you would think.

Yup, how I feel. At the beginning of the season I thought this was a 70/30% game for us, I'm around 80/20% now, sooo some hope.
Just need to withstand that first 5 min of the game w/o any turnovers or huge plays that feed the UGA fans.
If we can withstand that huge emotional push at the start of the game, get settled in and go from there I'll feel better.

I was at the UoL game. Granted UoL isn't UGA, but the crowd was loud and the Cards were hyped up. Yet our boys never flinched. They stayed focused and finally turned the ship. My concern would be our guys are too hyped up, not nervous or worried.

I'm not trying to be deliberately adversarial but I feel better about this game. Clemson were beasts last year and if I remember correctly, we played them hard in the first, third and fourth quarters. We had some injuries and plain-ass bad luck in the second quarter... but that's football.

Georgia has a great team and they have come together as one. In my opinion The Irish have not shown that solidarity... yet.

Call me a Pollyanna and I'm gulping the kool-aid but I think we see a much more cohesive team this weekend. If Book, our LB's and OL play to their potential this will be a great game.

- OT Isaiah Wilson (ankle) has practiced the last two days.

However, in the event that we get torched, I can get effed up for free. In the event that we win, I have the game recording so I can really soak it in next week and re-watch, and I can get effed up in celebration for free.

1. I hope we use pistol/under-center Ace formations to run downhill in short yardage situations, as ND has done recently (though infrequently).

2. If we run a buck-sweep with Tony Jones Jr., it better be because we are setting up a sprint-draw or a QB-throwback for later in the game... because it's not going to work against UGA, just like it didn't in 2017.

1. Yep. I'd like to see us run that more for both the run and pass. I think Book works a lot better at throwing downfield when he does. Setup the play action and if it's not there, throw it away. But make sure you are throwing those 50/50 balls when it's available. I'd like to dramatically decrease the amount zone/read for this game.

2. Not many options to do so but I think Tony Jones could be rendered useless in a game like this if we continue to run the zone/read. Either we do the above or we substitute more at RB and give some of the quicker/speedier backs some chances.

I remember in 2010 and 2011 we were constantly telling ourselves that the running game would open up as soon as Kelly had a QB that could run the option. And God knows we've been torched by enough option QBs, but I don't recall even Golson or Wimbush being particularly good at it.

I remember in 2010 and 2011 we were constantly telling ourselves that the running game would open up as soon as Kelly had a QB that could run the option. And God knows we've been torched by enough option QBs, but I don't recall even Golson or Wimbush being particularly good at it.

Honestly I think Kizer was the best of the bunch at running it. It helped that he had a dynamic RBs like Prosise and Dexter, but he also was great at pulling it when the Ends were crashing hard. Remember the huge run he broke against Temple in 15? great read against a stingy defense and that was a momentum swinging play on a 3rd and short, and he housed it.

Good question, that'd be a lot of film to review, lol. If I had to answer, I'd probably say Malik. He seemed pretty dialed in prior to injury. His zone/read work against LSU was pretty masterful, IIRC.

But, to your point, I don't think they've consistently made good decisions and I think that's been the crux of it. We've had guys that can run it for big plays. Wimbush and Kizer were pretty electric with some of the zone read stuff but they would get into some poor down and distance situations because of their "reads" as well.

SO aside from the tOSU game it's turned out pretty well when I've legit clapped my hands prior to.... lol

And that's part of the reason I'd eliminate the zone/read for this game. I'm only running if there is an RPO attached to it, otherwise I'd just as soon run out of the pistol or under C in an attempt to setup play action. The chances that we catch UGA slipping with a Book/Jones zone read for a big play seems very unlikely.
