Is this a thing? Do coaches actually get so meta that they are setting up opponents 3-4 games down the line? Can anyone think of clear-cut examples where ND did this in the past?

This feels like something that internet people talk about that doesn't actually happen in reality. Could be completely wrong though.

I almost guarantee it happens to some degree. There's probably a large portion of the playbook that hasn't been unveiled specifically for the UGA game, on both sides of the ball. Keep things relatively vanilla, until you don't have to. Why exert 100% when 70% is enough to win? It's time for 110% this week

I think so.

Glad to see the two OLine articles on the previous page. I've been campaigning for a broader view of what's going on there actually for a couple of years --- i.e. poor TE blocking support and poor blocking hole-hitting by mediocre RB play.

Also, really nice to see an early confirmation of Williams' apparent skills.

Man, that 2nd example on the RPO that should have gone to Claypool is criminal by Book. He's got to get the ball to Chase on the perimeter, especially when the only defender on his side of the field is being double teamed. Ouch.

While Robertson is a legit concern, he's like the 7th player I'm most worried about on OFFENSE lol. Pickens and Blaylock are ridiculously good. Pickens looks like AJ Green, and it isn't just because of the UGA uniform, it's because they're both 5* monsters that are tall and uber athletic. Dude can go up and get it...and he's 18 yo. Those RBs are borderline unfair, their 4th best RB would be ND's best RB by a mile. Swift and Zamir are NFL starters, Cook will be a rotational guy, and Herrien may even mess around and get taken on Day 3. They're loaded, I'm just hoping that it isn't like Clemson last year, and that the key plays go NDs way. We can't afford to give them the momentum early in their house. BK and Co have to find a way to get on the board early and stay in the game. If we can go into halftime within striking distance, I really like our odds. GO IRISH.

Most of the WR core are young but talented. I'm hoping Alohi and co. come in with their pants on fire and lay a lick on them, get physical and get in their young heads. Football is as much mental as it is physical, and we need to have a mental edge on Saturday period.

OMG I know! it's an easy TD as long as Claypool catches the ball. That's a killer! Hopefully the coaches have reviewed the tape with Book a million times and it's now ingrained in his head to throw the damn ball to a WR in short yardage RPO if the defense is out manned 2 to 1 on the perimeter.

I'm on a reverse Koon right now. I felt good that everyone doubted and was expecting our team to come out fired up but that's slowly giving way to fear of dem dawgs.

I've heard BK say in pressers before that a game plan was vanilla by design so not to give away everything before the biggest game of the season. I think it's easier to do that for a week 3 game. Wouldn't work for Michigan so much.

Yep...this is me to a tee.

I go from *uck it Book is gonna tear apart their secondary and that will lead to some nice running lanes when we back them out of the box. Lea has been vanilla with our fronts and stunts to make UGA think they can/will run all over us, only to find out their trying to run through a wall. Our DEs and secondary are going to give Fromm fits all night.

UGA is going to outrun us 299 to 45, Fromm goes a pedestrian 12-15, 225 with 2 TDs, short yardage 2nd downs opens up the whole playbook and he will hit some devastating PA passes, and we lose 42-10.

I think both teams probably spent a lot of time in the early part of the season preparing for this game. Especially given the nature of their previous opponents. End of the day, unless one of the teams come out in some ridiculous setup, there really isn't going to be much that surprises the coaches on the opposite side of the field.

And is it due to the Clemson result? Or simply based on personel there and now?

I felt more optimistic going into Clemson, but I think that's partially impacted by the Clemson result and knowing we had a better team then. Georgia doesn't have Trevor Lawrence but Fromm is arguably the next best QB. And Georgia's line is significantly better than Clemson's, as is their LBs.

I think Georgia's lacks the 1-2 generational talents Clemson had, but I think they have more talent overall.

They're 'Bama without Saban. Smart can be out-coached. I think Kelly and Lea are up to that task. Not sure Long is.

Worse. Mainly because the defense isn't quite as top-to-bottom solid, particularly at ILB and Georgia likes to run the ball with an NFL back behind NFL offensive linemen. I thought against Clemson the defense was good enough to keep ND in the game -- and to be fair, they were while Julian Love was in -- so ND had a chance to get lucky and pull off an upset if the offense could make a couple plays.

This game? Seems like the offense will need to score 30+ and I just don't really see that happening.

I was a lot more hopeful vs Clemson. This is a true road game between the hedges, so there's that too.

UGA's OL + RBs vs our iDL + LBs is simply not a matchup that gives me hope.

I felt more confident going into the Clemson mainly because the team last year was great and we knew that. Although we're not sure if Georgia will be the Dawgs of 2017 or 2018, we are at least pretty sure that the defense isn't as good vs the run this year vs last year.
