Devil's advocate (to give the board something to argue about):

A). I thought Alize Mack stunk the field up. Couple plays he looked afraid and didn't go for the ball. Sissy blocking too. After today I'd rate him number five of our TEs.
B). Coney played well, but the best two ND defenders were Tranquil and DHayes. Morgan was surprisingly meh. I don't care if he had several tackles, only one seemed a good one.
C). Wimbush still has a long way to go. He still doesn't have the instincts for the read-option. REALLY way too slow making up his mind. (actually all well to him as it was a first game.)
D). Super surprised by the young gun at RT. This guy must nearly be a superman to come. St. Harry will have to get both him and Tommy able to do both Pass and Run block though or the one who's in gives the play away. (doesn't make much difference on a pass-obvious distance situation, but the substitutions didn't always match that.)
E). Agreed with playing Wimbush every snap. He needs every possible rep --- needs to be on a fast learning curve.
F). We seem to have exactly one WR.
G). I'd like someone else returning KOs.

Maybe that's enough gasoline ..... oh, and great game players and coaches!

Great win... Need to throw more deep passes to keep them honest... Really impress with the TE's.... should be a great season

The stadium is great, updated but still feels classic.
Game atmosphere was great all game. I think the crowd is going to be crazy for the UGA game.
It should be Josh Adams and Dexter Williams from here on out. They were awesome.
A little underwhelmed by Wimbush, I expect him to get better though.
Front 7 looked great! Back end still needs work.
I'm excited for the rest of the season!
What did he do wrong? At least 4 more balls could (should) have been caught. Probably at least one more TD from them (EQ, although Alize had one near the pylon)

You can't have a much better first game.

Good post. Can't really disagree. WR is thin and Wimbush looks very green back there. Still think we're around an 8 win team but this was a great game. Next week should be fun.

I still can't see Dexter Williams sitting the majority of the game out. He is a game changer. D stepped it up in the 2nd half. Especially after the interception. Wimbush being mobile unlike the scrimmages made a big difference.

I think you're spot on with everything you posted. We need another WR to emerge ASAP, we can't wait 1/3 of the year for that.

I thought WRs looked decent. Obviously ESB stole the show as he should, and the stats won't show it, but Smith and Canteen were part of some GREAT blocks for the RBs. Need to get more than 4 catches out of those 2 guys for just 17 yards but I'm not overly worried.

Who do you speak of in regards to G? I thought Sanders was fine.

Also being at the game I thought it got a little noisy when two bands and the big board was going at the same time. I think it was a matter of timing so that each had their time.from my pespective I also thought the officiating was some of the best I have seen in the stadium in a long time.

Second drive of the game he had some poor throws and it seemed to be inconsistent the rest of the game . Most around me in the section thought the same thing. I don't think he did bad but I don't think he good, somewhere in between. He was great with his legs obviously so defenses are going to have to game plan for which is helpful.

I thought it was a good win. Georgia running game might carve us up but if we can run it successfully we have a chance next week. I was dumbfounded how much better temple safeties looked in comparison to ours. Our safety play i thought sucked and really exposed the defense main problems in coverage.

Loved the new upgrades to the stadium. Felt like the same experience but the Jumbotron is a huge bonus. I never looked at the ribbon once. I wish scores from other games were
shown somewhere. Took a while to get used to looking at the replays. Best kind of win. Blowout with a ton of room for improvement. My concern is the Safeties look below average, offensive line still
doesn't get a consistent push inside, and the WR's looked very iffy. Looking forward to watching it on TV tomorrow. My in-person thoughts are we will need significant improvement to win next week but happy with the blowout.

On the NBC broadcast you almost never caught sight of the new video board, cannot tell if it made any difference. Any noise difference compared to prior years?

Yeah, the sound is much better with the speaker system. Noise seemed to stay in the stadium as well. I think the atmosphere next week will be incredible.

Really just in the Political threads, but tbh those can be a breeding ground for douchery. They can turn the best posters into trash.

What happend to all the hype on Miles Boykin? Don't remember seeing him out there today.
Boykin's name does not appear in the UND Participation Report:

Tranquil was born to be a rover. That's actually the perfect position for him.

But, essentially having three safety positions only accentuates our lack of depth there. Back end guys were shaky. I worry about teams like USC and Miami with the athletes to exploit that.

Looks like hiring Long and firing Booker were two very good moves in the offseason. We have a TE position again, and it was a beautiful thing to see. 7 of Wimbush's 17 completions went to 3 different TEs. We only threw 12 completions to TEs all of last season.

Of course, there's the running game to mention too. We looked physical in the blocking, and both Adams and Williams were running very well. I liked the physicality that Tony showed, he just has to make sure to take care of the ball. That one fumble that was overturned was pretty close.

It is amazing - when you think about stats like that, or the incredible lack of sacks - how f'd up things were last season.

The horrible truth about last year is that coaching wasted a full season of progression for some good talent that remains on the team. A lot of these players will be better on Sundays due to bad coaching.

Any idea the last time ND had three 100 yard rushers in 1 day? Can't be any in my lifetime...

UND notes:

The Notre Dame tandem of Josh Adams (161), Dexter Williams (124) and Brandon Wimbush (106) are believed to be the first Notre Dame trio to each run for 100 yards in a game since at least 1954.

I searched but didn't find stats for a dominant rushing game in 1954. ND lists the team rushing record of 629 yds against Drake in 1931. The modern record is listed as 597 rushing yds against Navy in 1969. I couldn't find game box scores for either of those game.

In the Navy game ND rolled up 720 yds of offense. 597 of those yards came on 91 runs. The leading rusher in the game was Bill Etter 140 yards on 11 carries. Etter was Theismann's backup at QB and had a TD runs of 79 and 15 yards with a total of 140 yards on 11 carries. I couldn't find any stats or game summaries describing the RBs yardage. Some of the RBs names, Ziegler, Crotty, Minnix, and Huff are familiar but none of them are in the Denson, Ferguson, Pinkett, Heavens Bettis, Gipp, category of household names of ND RBs. The '69 team was primarily Theismann throwing to Gatewood and a rugged defense line led by Patulski, McCoy, and Kadish.

Someone should probably do a wellness check on Mike Gibson over at https://templefootballforever.wordpress.com/. He was starting to drink the Owl Kool-Aide again and thought it would be super close in a low scoring affair (17-13). Cause Temple roughed up Navy last year and we didn't. Cause last year can't be much different than this year. Cause Temple defense can't be scored on. Cause they're not gonna miss that last guy that played QB for them. Cause 10 win seasons for Temple the last 2 years.

One of the more exciting aspects to last season was the battle between number of sacks and number of TE receptions. It was neck and neck most of the year.
