Why does everyone expect Brandon to be polished at this point?

This is 3rd start.

First ever on the road.

Long has to dial up a way for him to get accumulated. Brandon cannot and should not be winning games for us.

I agree. However, we need someone (Tommy) to tell him to stop overthrowing the ball. He's got to get his mechanics back.

Wow is this kid playing poorly. Can someone address his mechanics on why he consistently throws high?

I have never seen a kid more ?scared in the pocket. He is completely uncomfortable doing anything except running. From what I can see his balls are high because he is not setting his feet, and stepping forward into his throws. He is relying on sheer arm strength, he might not be throwing off his back foot, but he isn't stepping forward through the throw.

The offensive play calling is structured to what they think our strengths and weaknesses are... it's not just random shit guys... at this point it's pretty clear the coaches have little faith is certain aspects of our offense.

The missed passes should answer that one for you. Wimbush is a runner learning to pass it seems. I hope he progresses... Its looking rough

My problem is this is his 3rd damn year in this program and he looks like he has been here 3 weeks.

TIL completing passes to wide open receivers = single handedly winning games

That last minute is why Kelly is a bad coach. You have a QB who is making his third start and fist on the road. He was not terribly impressive passing the ball in his first two games. You just took the lead, got the ball back inside your own 20 with under a minute to go and you take time out and throw the ball. A good coach would have simply run the clock out, take the lead into the locker room, and re-group. Considering the number of years he has been a head coach this was a very back decision that could have been disastrous.

What happened to going under center and running? Using the TEs? Play action? Two back sets? We saw some of that against Temple, gone since.

Agreed.. and multiple backs. The problem is Wimbush.. it starts with him and spreads from there. They can't set up future plays when they can't get him to hit anybody in the numbers.

At least we know why we aren't using the RPO... Wimbush isn't comfortable making decisions, period. He panics as soon as he realizes his first read is covered.

ND isn't gonna convert more than 15% of their 3rd downs the rest of the season if teams figure out how to cover Adams on the swing pass lol

I don't understand the offense is to one dementional it's either throw to brown or run with Adams and if neither work then wimbush runs. I wanna see more Michael young short passes in space, we need to get more WR's involved

No. Kelly absolutely made the right decision with all 3 timeouts left. That drive was 100% on Brandon Wimbush. It was the right call, guy was wide open and he missed him completely and threw it into the arms of the defender.

Right? That's a pass a D1 QB needs to make.

This is the shit that drives me crazy. It's not like this came up on Tuesday's practice this week. These coaches know what Brandon can/can't do. I would think they would want to make it easier on him by designing and practicing and emphasizing a strong running game behind your future NFL OL. Nah, fuck that. We'll practice our 3 running plays for 20 minutes a practice and call it good. Time to dial up 35+ passes. Chunk plays baby! Kill me now.

Jesus... Get off that Shit. They were trying to get points before the half and then get the ball in the 3rd. Thats called trying to win the game instead of playing conservative. People like you will always find fault not matter what happens...

I'd like to see Kevin Stepherson and/or Javon McKinley out there. Mack looks ok.

It's not that we expect polish, we expect him to make some good throws and smart decisions. So far, it's not that he's lacked polish, he's just been flat out horrible.

I really don't care that it's his 3rd start. It's also his 3rd year at ND. He should be more than ready.

Long can't do anything to make Brandon better. He has to do that himself. Long is putting him in position to succeed in the passing game, and Brandon is finding a way to fail by not scanning the field and throwing with some accuracy.

He shouldn't be winning games for us, but you have to pass the ball so that teams will respect the run. Brandon isn't helping us realize the full potential of our offense. It's got other issues but it stems from him stepping up and being a threat with his arm.

Got to love seeing Memphis taking care of business, sans Chip Long.

Hell, I'm not convinced he even called plays there last year.

Memphis didn't miss him today but then ... they had Ferguson not Wimbush.

Play calling or Player?

On the failed 4th and short, there was a tall ND receiver that ran a drag. Wimbush was looking over the middle but chose to run into traffic, against 4 defenders. I didn't see the receiver's number but I thought from the built, tall, lanky, that it was Claypool.

There was a comment that the game is too fast for Wimbush, another that he doesn't see open receivers, another comment was he's still a runner trying to be a QB. Probably all of the above.

He's not close to the finished QB that so many expected. He's still a work in progress regardless of the play calling.

We look terrible tackling today and rb keeps falling forward for extra 1-2 yards which is putting up manageable 2 and 3rd downs. We're over pursuing and they are countering it... No idea how we have absolutely no separation by wrs as well

I didn't know our strength was roll left throw right and running to the right side.

If the Irish can't stretch the field vertically it is going to be tough against better competition. St. Brown isn't creating separation and even if he did I am not confident BW could hit him. Time for some two TE sets and work the middle of the field. It's open and has been much of the game thus far.

Don't expect him to be polish qb but hit a wide open receiver. He looks scared to death passing the ball.

Sure and this is how you end up going 4-8. We have already established that Wimbush is not an accurate passer. This is not pee-wee football you know.
