Golson was 21/31, 289, 1TD and 0 picks. Weird ending but hopefully he's ok.

That win was a lot harder than it should have been, so that part is disappointing. We should have won without that much drama. My hat is off to Purdue for playing a tough game.

Happy for Rees to engineer the winning drive today. Sure it takes some of the bad taste out of his mouth from the way things went for him lately. But it does not change the fact that Golson is the better QB and if healthy needs to stay the starter. But it is good to know Rees is capable of coming in with confidence if Golson gets injured in the future.

Forgot about the 1st spike, my b......could have sworn it was 3rd down, with all the negativity in this thread I was just sick to my stomach and embarrassed to call myself a fan and a member of this message board. Purdue is not a terrible team, and they proved it today. People saying coach Kelly doesn't know what he's doing is straight up laughable. If you all think you know how to coach this team better then why don't you apply for the job? Kelly knows what he's doing, he created a dynasty at GVSU and won multiple NC's, his work at Cincy and Central Michigan also prove he knows what the F he's doing. Kelly isn't going anywhere for a LONG LONG time.

We had terrible field position all game long, started at the 20 or less 6 or 7 times. It's hard to put up points against a solid D if you have to go 80 yards every drive. Purdue is going to be very competitive in the Big 10 this year.

Some people just won't be happy with a coach unless they beat every team by 3 scores, but they would still find something to say about how he doesn't know what he's doing. I have all the respect in the world for Kelly and I know he is the right guy for the job, this coming from someone who played in the same conference as his GVSU teams. We watched hours upon hours of their game film (at GVSU and Central) as a learning tool (we run the same offense and he was no longer the coach there when I played). I heard first hand from my coaches about how good he is at what he does and they knew he would be at a major D-1 school soon (this was 6 years ago). I have so much more to say but I have a life outside of defending a coach who shouldn't need to be defended.

Edit: This all isn't about just you CTI

Very good post. Purdue played very tough on defense. Our o line got their asses kicked and it through a wrench in our whole scheme. I am very eager to get our injury status...

The "aha" moment I had in this game was this; Golson is best fitted athletically to take us where we want to go. But Christ... I am already sick of him calling TO's every drive and taking us to the end of the play clock to snap the ball every play. I didn't understand what Kelly was talking about until today regarding him not being able to get the play called. His inability to call the damn play kills our tempo. It's beautiful when he calls the play and executes, but more times than not he is confused and snapping the ball at the last second only half-way knowing what he is going to do.

For all of Rees's faults, he has complete control of the offense. Golson is more more athletic and capable of making plays, but Rees is WAY more composed and capable of keeping the offense moving. It's a bizarre situation we are in regarding the direction of our QB situation.

My hopes are that Golson can start getting the offense called quicker. If he doesn't, it really takes away from his ability to use his athletic ability if he is constantly frantic like he has been the last two games.

Great perspective. Wasnt trying to be negative like so many on here. Kelly is an outstanding coach, and in my opinion if he cant turn this ship around I dont know many who can. Just my opinion that you dont leave any time on the clock if you dont have to(even if its only 8 seconds). Seen way to many hail marry passes succeed to think otherwise.

I have to say, I'm shocked but this is the one thing that could've happened that would make me doubt Kelly severely. Not a little. The pressure is making him do things he wouldn't normally do. Unreal. This is why this is the hardest major coaching gig in the country.

Jesus Christ...

I totally agree with that player. Tommy deserves a lot of credit that not many fans are going to give him. He won this game for us.

Welcome to gameday threads.

lol yea, i've been around for others, but can't remember a time when people are calling for the team to lose because of a coaching decision, and then hearing the boos at the stadium...I almost threw up. All this as they are setting up to go for a game winning drive...i was baffled.

Everett played a great game and with the defense stacking the box we needed his skill set. He was very accurate and moved enough to keep them honest-he put us in a position to win, BUT a good mechanic knows there is a wrench for every nut, and at this point in his development...well, Kelly knew he had another tool. It is a team sport, it was a great team win, couldn't be prouder of this team and I think Coach just showed that he knows what he's got and how he has to work this. Everett put us in a position to win and Tommy went and got it for us. I see no issue here.

That was driving me crazy, so frustrating.

This was a game we would have lost last year, and in the previous few years. Sure, there were mistakes. There will always be mistakes. But, we won. That's all that matters right now. The rest will be worked out this week prepping for the MSU game.

I'm pretty sure at the beginning of the year last year Tommy ran the play clock down every play to one or two. It takes a while to get used to, be patient.

Very true. I dont have that much of a problem with it.

Question for jimmymac does the team trust Everett or did they just want Tommy for that Series?

NBC Sports Channel will replay the game on Monday 3pm. Looks like that is the only replay. Also, I hope the person you know with cancer experiences a complete recovery.

It's not too telling except for a few things:
2 sacks by Tuitt for the second straight game. First time since 2006 for an ND defenseman.
Notre Dame has 8 fewer turnovers in its first two games than last year. More people should be crowing about that, but they are too busy complaining about the win.
Eifort had a career high 98 receiving yards.
Golson almost set the record for a QB start in ND stadium. Record was 304 by Terry Hanratty.

I think they do trust Everett because they know his ceiling is heigher. But I think they did honestly want Tommy in there to run the 2 minute... Flashbacks to Michigan last year, Tommy's been there before. I would like to add tho in my opinion, whether or not there was an injury to Everett, he was definitely pissed at the end of the fourth. Whether he was upset because coach switched him out or because he got hurt im not sure... But you could tell he wasn't happy

A W is a W! This team will learn from yesterday's hard fought win! Congrats to all those kids who fought, especially to Rees for being more of and adult than many of our fans!

On a side note I would be calling for Danny Hope's if I was a Purdue fan! As an ND fan I thank him for his two QB system and for not just going with Marve!!
