Purdue QBs: you've got three very capable qbs, and they do things differently. ND will game plan diffferently for all 3.

Purdue QB Terbush will roll out more than marve and we will plan on preparing for both.

Purdue defense: I like their front four and their two cornerbacks have a lot of experience.

Purdue corners are as good as the Irish will see all year. A lot of Big Ten reps...

GAIII was dinged a bit but will be ready to go for Purdue.

Ishaq has to bring his A game every day and Bob Diaco has done a great job of mentoring him...

BK on his CBs: what we liked about them was their discipline. There were fundamental and technique things we need to improve.

Bennett Jackson is a solid tackler but there are techniques he needs to work on but he will get better.

I agree with you Yankee. He's said it numerous times he is changing the atmosphere with the team and with year 3 he practically has his team marching to his drum and it's showing.

CBs are ready to go even though they played Navy week one. Got a lot of work vs Irish offense in spring and training camp...

Hey bery! Not trying to get off track here but there is a different aura about Kelly this year. It's very business like as usual but with some real determination behind it! He's getting back to what got him to ND and that should translate very well for us. Navy certainly isn't a powerhouse but ther most definetly are no pushover either and they got handled. Each week is going to bring new challenges but I just think Kelly will have the troops ready and I do not expect many let downs this year!

Oh and berry, proceed!

Hey Yank, Did you see the post game IC 40, I believe. Not to sound corny but there was a real love in that room. From Jenkins on down, this is a solid program. It is getting real. And Kelly seems happy every minute. He reminds me of my grandpa who tried to act gruff at times, but you could always see his pride shine through.

I've been reading a few threads on other sites about this week's game plan, particularly on offense. I was thinking Purdue would be an expansion of last week's plan, bring Golson up on more of the offense, a little more passing, maybe a shot or two down the field, but still based on the running game. Makes sense.

But now I think differently. Throw the heck the out of it. Loosen everything up. Here's my reasoning:

1- Golson can throw, he has the arm. He's also a pretty calm guy, I don't think a mistake is going to shake him up to much, not at home against Purdue.

2- We still have a Ground and Pound to go back to if we stumble a little.

3- Purdue is solid but we're better. Have some faith that we can face a little adversity, ie. an interception.

4- First Home Game with Golson starting. Crowd should amped.

5- If Golson goes for 300+ yards, the impact on future games is huge. Talking about trying to game plan that offense?! HUGE!

The risk/reward favors us plus it gives our receivers experience we need against the better teams down the road.

I'm not discounting Purdue and I doubt it will happen but still.........

If Golson throws for 300+, we probably will not be winning. That being said, I think he throws for around 200 and we win by 2 TDs.

I agree with this. The Irish don't need him to throw for that much...let's expand on that ridiculous run game we saw this past weekend. Can you imagine what it's going to be like planning for a run game with Wood, Theo, GA III, and Golson...yikes.

It's not a matter of need, it's a matter of creating doubt as to the next play. We have to stretch our comfort level. I don't agree that throwing for 300+ yards means we're losing. Based on what?

Back to my main point, we go to Michigan state. It's a tight game in a hostile stadium, we have to throw the ball.... Is that where you want to see our passing game get stretched? I don't.

Again, I don't think it will happen but there's a low risk/reward against Purdue.

I think they are saying that if Golson has thrown for over 300 that we likely are throwing because we are behind. Not saying we can't win, but most likely would be that for a chunk of time we were losing.

And game planning for the best tight end in the country and game planning for another tight end that is 6'7", can lift up a car, and he has good ball skills...wow

Golson won't throw forr 300 yards because he won't need to. He will throw more this game than last week, but not enough to reach 300 yards.

I would say he throws for around 250 yards with 2 touchdowns. Our running game is our biggest strength, so we will use our biggest strength

Is it crazy that I think our running game has more home run potential than our passing game? How long until we have a pass for more than the 56 yard scamper by GAIII last weekend? Do we get a longer run first? All this talk of loading the box (no porn intended) seems to leave the second level kind of empty to defend our backs once they get there.

Exactly, now you're getting it. He'll throw for 300 because we can. That's my point.

Getting a little sick of the over-hype of Short and Allen. Where was big bad Short last year when we absolutely gashed Purdue right up the middle? Don't get me wrong, NFL caliber player... but he isn't freaking Vince Wilfork.

And I've read in a couple threads about how "awesome" Allen is and how he's going to completely lock down one of our receivers like he's Darrelle Revis crossbred with Ed Reed. Let's get real for a second... he got absolutely abused by Floyd. Will he get humiliated like that this year? No. Is he going to shut down our passing game? Extremely unlikely when you consider the only receivers he matches up with well are TJ Jones and our slots. Can he cover our best receiver? No, just like last year he can't match up with Eifert... and he's likely to struggle with some of our other big/fast guys if you truly leave him on an island.

even still. lets give them benefit of the doubt for 5 seconds. if they can handle the edge and the outside--it still leaves the middle of the field (especially if they double eiffert with safety over the top). i see neal and tj being utilized in shovel pass/screens. the space will be there and they can shake and bake all day.

and i kind of just reread your post LAX and we are saying the same thing.

i agree with some earlier posts that EG will probably have close to 200 yeards. my guess is he actually "throws" for about 80 or 100 and the rest will be YAC. and there is nothing wrong with that! LOL!

i think they stick to the 70/30 or 60/40 running/pass ratio. kill them with clock management and mis-matches all over the field. hoping for a three sack day. 1 from prince. 1 from tuitt. 1 from nix.
