Hopefully come out and pull another big win like last year. Starting the season 2-0 would be a great confidence booster for whichever QB is out there (cough Golson cough).

Already set with tix for the home opener. After USF last year, taking nothing for granted. But this game should get Irish rolling and ready for the trip to East Lansing the next week.

As a Purdue student, I'll be going to this game....

Cheering on ND of course!

I have a few purdue friends/fans coming with me. They want to know why I'm so enamored with ND. I'm sure they'll see why after this trip.

Hey there, fellow Boilermaker.

On a related note, one good reason NOT to be enamored with Purdue this season just struck me as odd when I read the ISD article Me2SouthBend posted. EIGHT QUARTERBACKS ON THE ROSTER??? WTF? It's things like this, along with the head coach getting an extension after going 6-6 that puzzle me on the direction of the program.

As far as this game goes, I anticipate a similar outcome to last season, probably even a little larger margin of victory for ND.

You know the old saying "If you've got 8 QB's, you really don't have any".

I know that this game has not been given that mcuh hype, however, I was up all last night in the wee hours of the morning waiting to purchase tickets. Yes, I went online and was able to buy six tickets. One of the most dedicated ND fans that I know will be attending with me, my 79 year old mother.

I cannot wait for the game. Also attending will be four of my best friends from all over the US. They all know our love for ND and the sport of football, so they will, regardless of which CFB team they like, be wearing ND affiliated clothing. Here's to a great season, great win, and great year!

GO IRISH!

My first game in the student section. Should be a good one, and hopefully the QB situation is resolved!

I've told a few friends that I think Notre Dame starts the season 1-1. I favor them getting beat more by Navy than Purdue but I'd bet $$$ that my beloved Irish lose one of these first 2 games. Bigger question is how is the fan base going to react. This is not a strong program anymore. Call me negative Nacy or whatever but a realistic view of this football program is much needed. Then maybe the administration will have to decide what they want to do. Its not the coach its what they make the coach play with and right now Notre Dame is second tier. They need players.

And Michigan was an easy win for us the last three years. My brain agrees with you, but I never question a bad feeling when it comes to ND. We're too good at playing down to our competition.

Last year that wasn't the case. We actually blew out the teams were supposed to

More baseless negativity from irishtrain. What a surprise.

Substantiate your pessimism or take this crap elsewhere.

The first pep rally of the 2012 season will be held Friday, September 7 on South Quad at the Rockne Memorial on the eve of the home opener against Purdue. The pep rally will celebrate the 125th anniversary of Notre Dame football by highlighting Knute Rockne.

As usual, I have none. I'm not a Danny Hope fan though. Team speed is great and all but we don't have the talent so I dont think it does all that much good in our case. I just did a face palm going thorugh the Rivals ratings for the 2009-2012 recruiting classes - littered with 2-stars and low level 3-stars. Yuck. If we are .500 again it will have been a sucessful year IMO with that stock of talent.

Purdue will most likely land Jaylon's teammate Tyvel Jemison. He's been getting a lot of hype in the fort wayne area and some national camps as well, but will probably not break past a 3* ranking...solid player, though. Sometimes those 2-3 star guys are just ridiculously underrated. Sometimes...

Thanks for the encouragement. You are right, as occasionally there are diamonds in the rough (a la Drew Brees). According to Rivals ratings, 10/22 2009 recruits were 2-stars and 9/23 2010 recruits were 2-stars though. That's a lot of rough that needs to be turned into diamonds!

• If Hope was giving out a most improved player award based on camp, quarterback Caleb TerBush might get the nod.
“Caleb’s had an outstanding camp,” Hope said. “We’ve had a lot of guys who have gotten a lot better. It will be hard without a staff meeting to try and earmark who was the most improved player, but it might be Caleb TerBush. Not only has he picked up where he left off but he has really progressed in his play. He knows where he’s going with the ball and delivers the ball in a hurry with a lot of accuracy.”
The quarterback depth chart hasn’t moved since the start of camp – TerBush, Robert Marve and Rob Henry. Unless something changes, TerBush is your starter Sept. 1 against Eastern Kentucky.
• Hope also said tight end Gabe Holmes “may be the most improved player on our football team when it’s all said and done.”
• Robert Maci continues to practice at defensive end and linebacker
