I just booked hotel for $655 about 4 miles away. No tix and no idea what the hell ima do! Anyone have suggestions? By that I mean for tickets? We plan on trying to grab last minute tix from scalps but is that a for sure?

Friday night we will be at Linebacker. If you want to buy my wife a shot I would appreciate it. She doesn't take them but I do. We will also tailgate ourselves but where can we roll too for a better time than us and the neighbors? They may be legit but no guarantee...

Gist: Who is fuvking things up Texas weekend??

if your gonna spend that much on a hotel room then why not fork up the cash for tickets on stubhub?

I'm going to the campus with my wife and kids. I usually go to the first game of the year with my boys, but since I don't want to take out a second mortgage to attend this game, we're all going to go and enjoy the festivities, then either watch the game in the Joyce Center, or listen to it on the radio.

Get the important things out of the way, bookstore, player walk, tailgating, etc. If some schmuck is stuck with tickets after the game starts, maybe we'll get in.

I would highly recommend watching the game from inside LaFortune (the student center). Lots of TVs, great family friendly atmosphere, and any food/snacks you want are nearby. I have some great memories of watching games from in there on gamedays when my family couldn't get tix for whatever reason.

This will be my first time visiting Notre Dame. Have always wanted to get up there but never have had the opportunity. NOw that my son is old enough (6), I am going to take him to his first game as well. We are actually coming from North Texas. Lifelong Irish fan here, figured since they were playing UT, what better time than now to make the trip.... still have not been able to find tickets at a reasonable price. Really want to be able to find 2 tickets to get us in the game. Anyone have any Ideas at all???

I took my two sons last year for their first time. It was an awesome trip! You will never forget it. Take lots of pictures!! As for tickets, You absolutely do not want to get up there and not be able to get any being that it is such and important trip for both of you. I would make the investment and go ahead and purchase them off stubhub or something like that. I would say there is a 90% chance you could score tickets the day of the game but there is always that 10% chance you don't.

The wife and I called several hotels and that was the only one we could find. We are calling back some others that had much lower rates this afternoon to see if they have anyone that dropped at the 30 day notice.

thanks, goldandblue....Is there a certain place around the area to look for scalps or will we just have to walk around and search? I have heard that its pretty tough to find tickets near the stadium and have heard there are other places in town to go...This is my first trip up there as well...REALLY looking forward to it, just don't know anything about the local area

I go to every game, and when I don't have tickets, I just wait until near kickoff, and I always get tickets. Every single time. And the most I had to spend was $20 (35 yd line, lower level), for Oklahoma, and I think that was only because I didn't wait long enough, I just wanted to get inside and see the boomer Sooner stuff and all that. I got into the Stanford game in 2012, the game where GameDay was here, for $7. I missed the first drive, and the rain helped drive the price down I'm sure, but hey...$7.

And I always get them either in the parking lot on my way from a tailgate to the entrance, or right by the entrance. You can't miss the scalpers.

Now, the caveat is...I've never done it with my kids yet (too young), and I've never had to do it for a night game. I always get my in-laws tix for those. With 2 night games, I chose the USC game this year, so I will be in the same boat as you for the TX game. Should be interesting. I'm not telling you to wait it out until the day of the game, because the way I deal with the stress of not having a ticket (doesn't really faze me) might be WAY different than the way you do (my wife can't handle it, for example; she gets beyond nervous). I'm just telling you, it has been an option for me in the past, for day games. I just sold my in-laws tix for face-value to a buddy, but if I come across a pair (REALLY hard to find right now), I'll holler at you. Good luck!

It probably helps your stress level that you live in town. Can't get in? Oh well, go home and catch it on the tube. For others it's something they've already likely spent a few hundred getting to South Bend for.

I think what he was saying is if anyone ever fails to get in once in town, it's an open invite to LA's house for the game.

Yeah. I have had the same experience as Hollywood. I have never failed to scalp tickets before a game in almost 20 years of doing it. But I get the trepidation.

But I suppose everyone has different risk tolerances, and in this case, we can suggest some great places in walking distance of the stadium to watch the game. Might still be worth it if you're going to enjoy all of the sites and pregame traditions. Worst case scenario is watching the game in a bar, surrounded by ND fans, after tailgating. Not a bad backup plan if you ask me.

After getting snubbed at the ND/Duke ACC tourney game last fall I have revised my stance on ALWAYS being tickets available on site. Too much stress and potential disappointment, better to go with tix in hand from a reliable source to a big game. Beware too good to be true, fakes at ACC tourney were all awesome seats for half what they should go for. As I have said before, my cousin bought fakes for Nebraska @ ND many moons ago and had to scramble at kickoff for another pair. Expensive mistake but I don't mind because he is a Nebraska fan so F him in my house.

Once in a lifetime trip? Pay up so you have them in hand and can enjoy the full experience rather than rubberneck for tickets all day.

Don't forget that fakes abound as well, Stubhub will at least pay you back if your tickets are fake.

If I lived in town and went to every game I would do what NDLA suggests though. Strongly consider it for lesser games too, bound to be lots of Navy and UMass tickets floating around.

I agree with that, but I did it when I lived in L.A. and flew out here with a buddy once as well. It's just my personality not to stress about those things, as I have always found a way to work it out. But like I said in my post, not everyone is wired that way, and I completely get that. GOIRISH!!! came up for the Wake Forest game in 2012 and I told him it would be way cheaper to just wait and scalp tickets with me before the game, but he elected to have me buy the tix beforehand to reduce the stress level. I totally get that.

But since Chad already got the plane tix, there always is that option to scalp if he can't find anything beforehand.

RDU: Both. I actually find getting one to be more difficult as they always have them in pairs. But when they get desperate, one is as easy as two.

AWESOME!!! Thanks alot for the advice man....I would TOTALY appreciate it if you or anyone else would get with me when/if you had some tickets. That would be GREAT!!! again, thanks alot for the advice too....I am really leaning towards trying to scalp...I know my son will probably get tired of all the walking but itll be worth it....especially if we can get in....itll be something i KNOW he will never forget....plus well have plenty of pics to remember our trip too..haha

Getting tickets for basketball are much different. I've never had to spend time "rubber-necking" for tickets. They have always been widely available and not something you have to think about until less than an hour before kickoff.

I've also never seen a fake ticket being scalped at Notre Dame. It would be pretty hard to do nowadays with how the tickets look.

Ever seen anyone scalping 4?

I've bought 4 before, numerous times going back to the 80's. We got 7 one time and went in with one person of the ticket holders group while the rest of them stayed in the lot at tailgated. Pitt in '93. Irish rolled.

Glad he's sticking to this. I feel like the 2-QB system in Week 1 spells disaster about 90% of the time.

While speaking to reporters on Thursday, Texas coach Charlie Strong said that both Tyrone Swoopes and Jerrod Heard will play in the season opener against Notre Dame.

Now, this doesn't mean one of the two won't be named starter by then. It's possible that the Longhorns could begin the season with either Swoopes or Heard as the starter, but have a separate package of plays designed for the other quarterback.

It's also possible that the season opener against Notre Dame could be the deciding factor on which one starts from that point on.

Or -- OR! -- this could just be a case where a coach says both quarterbacks will play in a game simply because he wants to force his opponenet to prepare for two different quarterbacks. Personally I think it could be a mixture of all three options.

Swoopes played in 11 games for the Longhorns last season, and his production left a bit to be desired. He completed only 58 percent of his passes for only 6.27 yards per attempt while throwing 13 touchdowns and 11 interceptons. Heard was a four-star member of Texas' 2014 recruiting class who redshirted last season.

Gives us a chance to size up our pass rush early on...if we can't get pressure against these guys it will be a very bad sign of things to come.
