I'd would guess if he was questionable that they'd hold him out another week.

I don't know that I follow that logic. We aren't deep there. Playing against multiple sets, a mobile quarterback, and on the road, if he is available I'm not holding him out. Win now, not tomorrow.

Anyone watch the entirety of the SU game yesterday? Caught the first half. Seemed to be vulnerable to the big play. Maryland had a few screens that burned them, as well as some throws into the flats. Their run game defense wasn't very goo, but neither is our offensive line.

Their QB can create but lacks some of the accuracy that would be deadly. Wouldn't be surprised if we take the same approach we did with Rice and keep him in the pocket to try to beat us. Their offensive line appeared to be porous but played okay in spots.

Don't know what sort of crowd will be present. First road test for a lot of young guys, could set up for nerves. Or they could fly around and play well and we put this away like we "should" at the half.

If the situation is that he is willing to give it a go but he's not 100% yet, I would definitely bring him and dress him but only use him in an emergency. We should be just fine with Max and Elijah as the starters, and getting Drue quality reps is great, and Farley can fill in if necessary, so we don't really NEED him Saturday barring an emergency. With Hardy's future uncertain and Baratti gone for the year, Collinsworth is a more important player than ever and we shouldn't risk his health unnecessarily.

And if Syracuse is that big ofa threat to beat us then rushing Austin for a win is pointless since were not the team we all hope ND is. When he's ready, he's ready

No more of a road game than Indy was.

Which makes Florida State the first true road game. That scares me.

I am already getting nightmares about that game. If we have to use all our timeouts at home in the 1st quarter what are we going to do in that environment?

I guess it had been awhile since I'd watched a close night game at FSU, but that place last night was loud, especially late. Offense, defense, special teams, didn't matter. Gotta be the most intimidating scene in the country beyond the SEC.

Remember 2012 anyone? We played our best on the road. Sometimes teams really get up to go into other teams own stadium and play lights out. In '12 we did that against Oklahoma, USC and MSU... if my memory is correct. Not saying any of those teams are what FSU is this year but sometimes it can pump a team up to face all the elements of playing the top team and reigning champs in their own home. I know I'd be hyped to go in there and knock off the number one team if I played. Kind of like A&M did to Bama in 2012. And this year it seems like we have good leadership on offense with Everett so I'm not quite as scared as some people. I'm really looking forward to that game...ESPECIALLY if we take care of Syracuse, Stanford and UNC before then.

Going the same way???

Which way is that?

Winning but not covering?

Another 300 yds passing/500 yds T.O.?

Another record setting FG kicking night?

Another opponent held to under 250 yds T.O.?

4 more Ints?

More stagnant red zone production?

More penalties and miscues?

Nd playing down to the level of the opponent, poor atmosphere and general meh attitude all round towards the game.

I guess we saw that game differently. I don't see 500 yds of offense as playing down to the opponents level. Nor holding the opponent under 250 yds. Brindza had a NCAA record night!

ND had a good night in the Red Zone BUT not scoring TDs in the Red Zone. Was that "meh" by the players or the trademark of Kelly and his collection of conservative play calling O.C.'s during his first 4 years at ND?

This year ND is 100% scoring in the RZ BUT scoring TDs at 71%, 7th Best in the nation.

Turn 3 of those Pinstripe FGs into TDs and ND rolls to a 25 pt win.

Is MetLife Stadium a poor atmosphere for a game?

I've been to Giant's Stadium, The House That Ruth Built, The Polo Grounds, and Shea and never experienced a poor atmosphere. I've had the lights turned on me at Death Valley, had a beer can thrown at me at Doak-Campbell, survived Sepulveda Boulevard and the LA Coliseum, T'Town. I've never had a meh experience at an ND game anywhere.

I think we'll come out and play well this week. We had a bit of a stinker against Purdue as it was a hard game to come into after Michigan considering Purdue always plays it like it's their bowl game. We're coming off a bye, I think we should win by 3-4 scores at least unless we have some more injury woes.

that game was truly awful though and rutgers were a terrible team, pretty much like syracuse are now

I'm not seeing that. This is a totally different team this year. Defense is much more aggressive, quicker and faster. Offense is moving the ball much better. Offense isn't where BK wants it to be, but it's getting there.

There's no way BK will allow this team to have back to back low energy performances. I expect this one to be more like the Rice game and a perfect tune up for the Cardinal.

A senior laden team in 2012 with perhaps one of the greatest leaders the university has ever seen. No, this isn't 2012. Wake up.

We had better be able to match their intensity. I know their head coach can be a fireball. They'll be up for this game, regardless of the loss to Maryland.

I don't know that we can match what Maryland did offensively. They had great speed out on the perimeter, and wide outs that won off the ball and could create in space. We don't have that right now. If Amir remains out, this could be a long game. I don't see the blow out some on here are confident about. This will be close.

I think the logic is probably that, if he is questionable, then there is a chance that playing him would aggravate the injury and result in him being lost for even more time than holding him out just one more week. If you have the reserve personnel to execute your defensive game plan, then just let him rest one more week and come back really strong for the meatier part of the schedule.

Would be a good week to work on the run game. EG should be able to pass whenever he wants. But the O Line has to get better run blocking. Use the time against a lesser opponent to do just that. Win by 14... who cares? Make your team better in those areas that need the work. JMO

If they don't come out ready to roll after a bye week, then it'll be a long season, imo.

This week ND rolls impressively to launch into next week's hype for the Stanford game.

Just woke up. I guess I slept for two years so thanks for the request. Very nice post, thank you.

But seriously...Manti was a great leader but he was on defense and people were just talking about how an away crowd doesn't effect a defense as much as an offense. I realize he was a huge reason for the success of 2012 but we went on the road with redshirt freshman Golson and played great every time we played at an opponents house. Now we have better leadership and understanding on offense with him at the helm it seems. We haven't seen him on the road yet this year but he's been pretty good so far with the exception of the opening drive against UM. He has 3 weeks to get those kinks worked out and I think we can all agree that this isn't the same Everett as 2012 to this point.

We also have some good leadership on defense with Joe Schmidt and Cody Riggs who has actually played in Tallahassee before so he has some experience down there and can probably help get the younger guys prepared. Neither one is Manti but they aren't slouches either, IMO.

This also isn't the same FSU team as last year so far. They look very beatable to me...but then again, I've been sleeping for two years so I guess I don't know what I'm talking about.
Their O-line looked very suspect against a pretty good Clemson D and D-line. So far BVG has shown he's willing to send the dogs and put pressure on the QB...and not just willing but he knows how to hit home as well. I realize that was with FSU's backup QB too but Auburn rattled Winston last year and that Auburn D wasn't that great so I think it's attainable for us to get home with the pressure as well...or at least make him hurry and rattle him a bit.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see. I'm expecting a close game.

Thanks again for the nice response.
