So did Virginia play the game of their lives? Or is ND overrated. I'm going to lean to the latter unfortunately.

I wouldn't go that far, but you could definitely argue it verifies how awful the defense, especially the secondary, is against the pass.

Can pretty much ask the same question with every top team that plays a "squeaker."Were it not for a Pick 6 by Darron Lee, Northern Illinois maybe beats Ohio State. Did Northern Illinois play the game of their lives or is Ohio State... a team that all metrics put WAY ahead of the field coming into this season... overrated? Or both?

With Virginia, I think its both. I know they played the game of their lives, because I've watched them quite a bit and all of the normal "snake bitten" stuff that happens to them didn't happen in that game. I think ND might be overrated because our passing offense and red zone shouldn't have had as much trouble with their team through the first 3 quarters as it did, and we're the only team that has let their stupid overshifts confuse the defense.

I think we're going to learn a lot about our offense and defense against UMASS. If we don't score 35+ while holding them to less than 350 yards and 17 points, it's time to consider us a bit overrated at #6 in the country.

ND did them a huge favor with the BVG style defense by playing soft coverages. A Diaco defense would have covered the run, forced the QB to fit the ball between defenders, and would have absolutely smothered that passing game.

UVA stayed in the game with the underthrown jump balls. Our defenders were playing behind the receivers and didn't adjust when the QB kept throwing the same kind of ball. I assume the secondary was NOT doing that at their own direction. Somebody on the staff made the decision not to adjust to the QBs style of passing.

ND's undefeated playing three Power 5 Teams and they got 6 starters out for the season.

Mississippi jumped 10 spots in the polls by beating a team that dropped 10 slots in the polls. If Bama was so bad why do the pollsters think that Miss is so good? Despite 5 UA turnovers the margin of victory was the deflected pass that became a tip drill that ended up as a MS TD. If one of those deflections resulted in a incompletion one would normally expect it's an even game. Miss needed 5 turnovers to win. Overrated?

Keep in mind that they played UCLA fairly close the week before us too. UVA looks terrible tonight but they're not a terrible team IMO.

Side note, everyone always makes a gripe about out of conference scheduling.....

It's gonna cost London his job this year. What a gauntlet.

I guess good/bad is not my concern. Sure it makes me look at NDs Dbacks and hope the VA game isn't an indication of THAT shit again. But VAs impact to NDs SOS is my concern. I'd like them not to get their ass kicked at home by Boise State, or anyone really since ND didn't kick their ass...

Just goes to show that our Secondary isn't as good as we thought.

But also how much goes to them over looking this game to get to GT. Either it doesn't look good.

So London's first season as head coach of the Cavaliers was 2010, and he's only had one winning season at Virginia (2011). After last night's humiliating 56-14 loss at home, does he make it through the season?

Virginia did not come to play Boise.. I watched this entire game being that I had $$$ on Boise. They opened up with a pick six and it only got worse.

Johns himself gave away 35 points. He was absolutely brutal. It seemed like every drive they either coughed it up, threw an INT or dropped a critical pass. It was a mixture of terrible luck, uninspired playing and a pathetic atmosphere.

Virginia just gave up shortly after the 3rd quarter and Boise never let up.

We were a few plays from putting Virginia in the same position but they made a few big plays to keep it interesting and back pedalled our boys a bit. The loss of Malik didn't help matters either.

I believe we're close to as good as advertised but I'm still taking the under 60 today ;)

We all know Kelly doesn't run it up and he plans to get a lot of young players, including Wimbush, in today. 42-10 at the most.

I think its too early to tell. It was an early season road game against a Power 5 team. For now I'm going to file it under "One of those games ND has every year." Even 2012 had us struggle badly to (and nearly lose to) a crap Pitt team so who knows at this point.

College football is unpredictable. Maybe that devastating ending against the Irish just crushed that team. Week to week you have no idea what your going to get. I just think ND played poorly defensively after the first quarter against UVA. Clearly they shook that last week. I think Tech would crush UVA as well. We went in and won. Perhaps not in the fashion we would have liked, but we're still 3-0 and played an awesome game last week.

Exactly. So much emotion. So much evolution over the course of the season. So many random breaks. The transitive property really doesn't apply very well. I wouldn't sweat the Va. game.
Agree with those who say UMass is a good test for our pass D, though.

I watched the whole game as well. When Johns had time to target a receiver, he missed totally. A few on target - very few. But when we was rushed or off-balance, he hit the numbers - except the int to the Defensive end...... crazy

There's a lot of blah-blah-blah here. The bottom-line line is we won and are sitting [with an @ss-kicking of GT] in a top 6+/- position, where the other six teams are conference-paired and will therefore knock three of themselves off. Three of them left plus us equals four --- playoffs. Just keep winning. Who cares by how much.

..... and to my eye and ear, the guy who gave us so much trouble, Severin I think his name is, was dinged up all game and kept going on and off the field often tapping himself out. If that guy hadn't been effective against us [due to similar imaginable injury], then those guys would have been majorly in stress to get down the field.
