theyve been doing it all year apparently
That's what I've been hearing. Seems like a good time to stop though.
It's a bit sick that some of the Alabama social media handles, like the Barstool one, has been playing the whole thing up. There's an innocent mother dead, just isn't right.

I doubt that Saban is worried about BB. To me it was more of reminding Oats who is the top dog and that he needs to hold his players accountable.
There’s no way that the basketball murder and resulting trail of errors by Oats didn’t feed that message. It was too spot on.

It was a pretty hard jab regardless. I'm glad he did it.

I really hope Alabama doesn't win the tournament but it's certainly looking like they're lined up to do it. Such is life.

If Mitchell had just had some pot for personal use, he gets suspended for awhile and that's it. Half a pound, a scale, $7000, and fleeing at over 140 is a deal breaker by a mile or two. He can safely pack his bags and head home. I can't imagine any way Saban tolerates that.

I can't imagine anyone would tolerate it.

All the usual protections players get go out the window when you are a threat to public safety and you are acting as a drug dealer (likely with your NLI money).

If you have a little cannabis, you get pulled over, you abide by the law. Slap on the wrist, go back to the dorms, run some sprints.

If you have a lot of cannabis and a scale and you get pulled over, no chase, there are probably some consequences because you now have a felony to contend with. Missed games, probation, etc.

If you have a lot of cannabis and a scale, a loaded gun and you start driving 140+ MPH, you are incapable of handling the money and fame that has been afforded to you by joining the football program. You need rehabilitation in the truest sense. You must be expelled from the university. Go get checked in some where, talk with people and try to understand there are better ways to live, especially if you are gifted athletically and have a short window to maximize on your genetic gifts.

It definitely fed the message. My point was you screwed up and need to do better, but he's not worried about the BB team winning a title.

Agreed, he is not.

Saban is a lot of things, and one of those is most likely someone who feels like this situation with the basketball team has been handled incredibly poorly. The difference for him is that it has an indirect association with him and hits closer to home than he probably wants. That being said, I think this was directed as much if not MORE to his own players than it was to Nate Oats. It was clearly directed to both but I think he's sending a message to his football players more than anything.

I think he's concerned about the attention this brings to the athletic department that his football program brings the bacon home to. Nobody thinks hoops when they think of Alabama Crimson Tide sports. So he doesn't really give a shit about the basketball team, he gives a shit about the optics it lends to the brand and logo that he shares with it. Basketball success is probably a lukewarm result as it relates to the football program.

Right. Just because the basketball players got away with it doesn't mean you football players are going to get away with it. Don't be trying that stuff on Nick Saban's watch. It won't end the same.

Maybe more to the story than what the national media narrative has been thus far.

A loose maybe. This seems like the author of the article is really leaning toward information coming from the defense attorney.

There is a reason why Division I athletes have to sacrifice social time and make very good, careful use of the time they actually do get. I still can't fathom what could have possibly been said or done that this scenario continued on into the AM hours and resulted in gunfire.

This doesn't seem...fair.
It's not. 3 of the four aren't even from Georgia. You're luring 3 kids from other schools honey holes (CA, TX, and FL)

McKinney, where I graduated from, only sent kids to Texas schools and one OL to ND. FL schools and Tx schools should be racking it up in the state. CA too. The game has changed.

Not terrible but when every one is screaming to the body cams you get both sides. He wasn’t terrible but was still being an ass. But it’s the SEC.
