I stated just this past week Texas is going to try... I can see it happening too... bama, at a certain point, won't be able to bid war with Texas and I think Saban would enjoy a.) new challenge... b.) a fan base that is half way reasonable.

Time will tell of course.

A contract through 2020. Brown's not going anywhere without a shitload of money.

Imagine being able to recruit the state of Texas while having past ties to high schools all over Alabama and Louisiana.

Bama had a 12-0 regular season by year 2 with Saban, and he'd be theoretically inheriting more talent at Texas and in a weaker conference. Only thing holding me back from rooting for him to leave Bama is the fact that we play Texas soon.

I can stomach that school and those fans going 56-0 with four titles more than I can bama's going 12-1 and winning any title...

yes. please.

“@sbterry247: Spoke to sources close to #Saban regarding #Texas. Saban has no interest in leaving #Alabama for Texas job.”

No idea how reliable Terry is, he's the Founder and CEO of 247sports but I've never seen him report info before.

Why would Saban want to leave though? I just don't see it.

Lol, no shits he's not going to say anything a quarter of the way through the season. What an unnecessary tweet.

He would be insane to leave in the middle of a dynasty run, but, he is going to surpass Bear on the all-time Bama coaching scale this year, so maybe it wouldn't be that insane. Get into UT now, replicate what you did at Bama, and go out the GOAT at two of the best programs in history. #mindblown

Miami Dolphins fans are not convinced.

I think Saban retires at Alabama. Among many other reasons, he loves the SEC and despises the style of football in the Big 12.

Every league is a copycat league so if he went the B12, he would FORCE the conference to change because he has shown results in two other power conferences, the Big Ten when it was actually good, and the SEC when he helped turn it into what it is now.

I do not see him leaving, BUT if he did, the B12 would QUICKLY shift gears to fall in line behind Saban's way of doing things.

With all due respect...that's crazy talk. I don't see any SEC teams changing their style of play to mirror Alabama's. If anything, they're moving more towards the spread and tempo football Saban abhors.

The long held belief here in Bama is that if Saban ever left it would be for Texas. However, the prevailing thought is that he will stay at Bama till he finally retires. And don't forget... Jimmy Sexton would talk to the admin at Austin Peay University if they called to inquire about Saban. And no offense to the Governors... they still have one of the greatest cheers in the history of college athletics.

"Fly's open... let's go Peay."

The minute there is a serious threat of NCAA sanctions, Saban is a Longhorn.

I don't understand why that variable is rarely inserted in this conversation. He is not going to stick around if they are seriously punished.

Since I don't think Bama will be punished, I don't see much of a chance of Saban leaving there anything for quite a while.

While I don't feel that Saban would leave Bama for Texas, and he says he's "Too damned old to start over somewhere new!!" 10 million per has a way of changing ones mind rather easily!!!!

I'm sure you are right, but it's tough for this middle class guy to understand why money would matter to you at all when you are making over $5M per year already. What's the difference in lifestyle that that extra $5M affords? "Man, if I coach Texas I can get that G6 I've always wanted!" I guess that's the thinking.

I've often thought the same thing, especially for a 61-year old coach like Saban, and the only thing that makes sense to me is generational wealth. If I'm 60+ years old and have all the money I'm personally ever going to need, I'm thinking about my grandkids, and their grandkids, and their grandkids, etc.

The ironic thing is, if Saban retired from coaching after this season, he could probably make more money with speaking, endorsements, etc than he does coaching.

Well, I don't think there's any chance Saban's leaving, but going from about $3MM+ in after-tax income to about $6MM+ can be pretty enticing. At 3 you're still worried about a certain standard of living/lifestyle for your assumed 20+ years of retirement. At $6MM you're not only starting to sleep easy about still taking that trip around the world every year, but you're also starting to feel like your kids will be able to live comfortably, with proper planning.

Tommy would know better than I, but Saban doesn't seem like the kind of guy that wants to provide a cushy life for his progeny.

There are stories that one of his daughters could spend three mil in a weekend. Or... lose it in a lawsuit for whipping another girl's as*.
