Imagine being able to recruit the state of Texas while having past ties to high schools all over Alabama and Louisiana.
Bama had a 12-0 regular season by year 2 with Saban, and he'd be theoretically inheriting more talent at Texas and in a weaker conference. Only thing holding me back from rooting for him to leave Bama is the fact that we play Texas soon.
Why would Saban want to leave though? I just don't see it.
“@sbterry247: Spoke to sources close to #Saban regarding #Texas. Saban has no interest in leaving #Alabama for Texas job.”
No idea how reliable Terry is, he's the Founder and CEO of 247sports but I've never seen him report info before.
A contract through 2020. Brown's not going anywhere without a shitload of money.
Miami Dolphins fans are not convinced.
I think Saban retires at Alabama. Among many other reasons, he loves the SEC and despises the style of football in the Big 12.
Every league is a copycat league so if he went the B12, he would FORCE the conference to change because he has shown results in two other power conferences, the Big Ten when it was actually good, and the SEC when he helped turn it into what it is now.
I do not see him leaving, BUT if he did, the B12 would QUICKLY shift gears to fall in line behind Saban's way of doing things.

While I don't feel that Saban would leave Bama for Texas, and he says he's "Too damned old to start over somewhere new!!" 10 million per has a way of changing ones mind rather easily!!!!
I'm sure you are right, but it's tough for this middle class guy to understand why money would matter to you at all when you are making over $5M per year already. What's the difference in lifestyle that that extra $5M affords? "Man, if I coach Texas I can get that G6 I've always wanted!" I guess that's the thinking.

I've often thought the same thing, especially for a 61-year old coach like Saban, and the only thing that makes sense to me is generational wealth. If I'm 60+ years old and have all the money I'm personally ever going to need, I'm thinking about my grandkids, and their grandkids, and their grandkids, etc.
Well, I don't think there's any chance Saban's leaving, but going from about $3MM+ in after-tax income to about $6MM+ can be pretty enticing. At 3 you're still worried about a certain standard of living/lifestyle for your assumed 20+ years of retirement. At $6MM you're not only starting to sleep easy about still taking that trip around the world every year, but you're also starting to feel like your kids will be able to live comfortably, with proper planning.

The ironic thing is, if Saban retired from coaching after this season, he could probably make more money with speaking, endorsements, etc than he does coaching.
