I do half a mile on the treadmill a couple times a week... Anything over a mile or so is crazy to me... To each their own.

I started cough to 5K in July. About half way I figured there is no way I'd ever be able to run for 3.1 miles. Now I am running 2 5k's a week and 5 miles on Sunday. Today, to mix it up a bit, wee did a four mile trail run. Wow! That was definitely the hardest one yet. But, dammit, I did it.

I just signed up for the Tijuana Flats Super You! 5k on April 3rd in Orlando. $15 for students (includes: race, tshirt, taco, & beer) crazy good deal.

Your weekly regimen is what I'd like to eventually work up to. I'd like to run some of the local 5k's also. I started last summer running 3 miles a day but it was just to much to start with and balancing 3 kids and a family too. I think I can get 3 times a week in.

I've got three kids, too, so I know how you feel about squeezing the runs in. And the most important thing I've learned is not to be too hard on yourself. I have great runs and then all of a sudden I have a terrible one. IDK what the difference is but I repeated some weeks of couch to 5 k if I didn't think I was there yet. I had to remind myself that these things are not really races, to me. Just attempts to finish. I feel much better than a year ago, though. And I've lost 18 pounds.

I wish I had better endurance. I can lift weights like a mad man for 2 hours in a row, but put me on a treadmill and I'm gassed after a mile. I ran 4 miles in a row the other day on the treadmill (8:00 pace), and my legs and lower back were cramping up like crazy, it was probably the most grueling thing I've done exercise-wise since high school. I can start and end a workout with a mile on the treadmill, but beyond that, running is just not for me unfortunately.

Treadmill running is even harder. You don't have the same gait on there as you would running outside. And you don't have the same acceleration or push off with your back foot like you do running outside. I have a treadmill I got for my birthday for days when it is just too cold and I can't run at a pace on it like I can outside.

I have a similar issue sometimes myself, glad to see it's not just me. For example, I did a half marathon last spring. The race was on a Saturday, so I figured I would do my last run of 3 miles on the Tuesday before and then just rest leading up to the race. I barely made it a mile and a half on that Tuesday, so I was a little worried to say the least. But then on race day I did the 13.1 with relatively little problem, other than the last 2 miles, where my legs felt like lead weights. I find that if I run first thing in the morning, I feel the best, which is what I did on race day. Evening runs, even a couple hours after dinner, I feel like a blob with legs.

Agreed as well. I try to avoid running on my treadmill at all costs, never seems as good as an outdoor run.

My 5k time varies, it matters if I'm in a race or just running by myself. If I'm in a race I can run a 5k in as low as 21 minutes, it could be as high as a 27-28 minutes if I'm by myself.

I don't run as much as I used to (I ran XC in the past). I'll run after a workout just to burn off some extra calories and I will run in the Sunburst every year, but that's it.

I may not have created this thread, but I'm sure as sh*t going to keep it going.

Tampa Gasparilla Half Marathon today.

Maybe you saw my twin sister, though I hope she was taking it easy in light of the surgeries she's had to her knees in the last decade or two.

Here's a picture of what she wore:

She usually takes a pic of her outfit spread out on a bed (she calls them "Flat Gina") for races with themes.

She may have been easy to "overlook" since she's only about 4'9". We've each lost an inch to shrinkage since our peak at 20 or so.

I have the feeling that my sister will be there. She lives in Jax now, but we lived in Orlando from '63 through starting college ('70) and still have friends (Bishop Moore classmates) there.

If she's going and posts a FB pic of her costume ahead of time I'll post it here. Should you see her, say "Hi" for me.

Good luck. Enjoy.

I didn't. Mostly I was just trying to not die.
There were a ton of pirate costumes, for those uninitiated...

I usually run 5 miles a day, but this winter has been tough. Missed quite a bit the past couple months. I have ran a marathon every other year and this is the year but I haven't decided if I want to take on that training again...

Running my first marathon this weekend in Chicago, a little nervous about it but still hoping to about 4 hours.. My IT band and knee has been killing me.. Looking for any tips, superstitions, rituals etc for any of you who have done one. Also, any sure fire IT band stretches, not using a roller! Thanks!

Soooooooooooo, Sean Astin... (Rudy, Mikey from Goonies, Samwise) is apparently a big runner.
In the past 10/11 days has run:
Disney Marathon, Half Marathon, 10k, 5k
Disney Star Wars Half Marathon, 10k and 5k

That's 71 miles folks.

I saw him out in Anaheim while I was doing the Star Wars Half and 10k, but good Lord I couldn't imagine doing another 5k, let alone the full.
Simply incredible.

This is from last year but running the six races at Walt Disney World is called the "Dopey Challenge" and gets you these bad boys:

Not that I know much about it. If I'm running any place it's because someone is after me.

Use the foam roller for IT bands.. Its a life saver

You kept an open mind, huh?

I'm an ultra guy. So, do a lot of running. Rollers are great. But from a stretching standpoint, ideally you want to hit all your major muscles as an imbalance in one could affect all the others (short/tight hamstrings limiting range of motion and placing a higher load on other muscles).

You also need a dynamic routine pre-run if you choose to stretch there and static/targeted stretches once cooled down or when not planning to be active in the near future.

There are some good routines on the interwebz. My advice on the ITB and piriformis would be pigeon pose variations and belted cross body stretch. Would be happy to help further if you'd like.
