Settling the burger debate once and for all... the best burger joint in the country is Good Stuff Eatery and it's not even really that close. Second best is probably Ray's Hellburger... good enough for Obama to take the Russian President there years ago when we were still cool with those guys, and we brought one of our friends from Italy there a couple years ago and when I saw him a couple weeks ago in Rome he brought it up in conversation as the "best food he's ever eaten"... but I still maintain that Good Stuff is better and the best overall burger joint in the country.
I've eaten at every burger place listed in this thread save Smashburger.
In-N-Out is overrated... but it's also my first stop every time I get into that part of the country. Literally. I seek out the nearest In-N-Out for my first meal. Why I say it's overrated is that there is absolutely nothing special about it. It's just really simple and really good. And I respect the hell out of that. But west coasters who think it's at the top of the burger food chain need to experience more places. Good Stuff has superior fries, sauces, burgers, and beverages. There is literally not a single category (except cost?) where In-N-Out matches up. And that's how you know it's overrated when people say it's the "best."
Five Guys used to be just a small northern Virginia chain. I don't know how the quality is elsewhere, but here it's still fantastic. I do remember having it at ND when they put it in Eddy Street Commons and it not measuring up... but it was also new then. But I rarely even eat there anymore because Good Stuff > all and Ray's is literally walkable from place. I live in burger heaven.
