I know I haven't been actively posting in the thread, but this is bad... I have a horrible feeling this is nothing more than the Administration flexing its muscles at Kelly and his Football program. And they are pulling this stunt to make sure they know who runs this shyte.... I have a sick feeling Kelly is gonna leave.

If that's the case, maybe they are waiting for it to cost a game before they 'release' them to play.

So now we need to pick. 14-0 and they sit the whole year, or we lose this week and this whole thing magically gets sorted out in the next week after taking a month and a half.

There is a big part of me that believes this now. Kinda like with Lou...don't want any one coach thinking they can stick around long enough to break Rock's record. I'm not one to believe in conspiracy theories, but I'm not not convinced that there is something deeper going on.

He's right. This is poor due process. The University looks like idiots right now. Thank god for Michigan football, because otherwise the main topic of college conversation would be how Notre Dame has bumbled their way through a completely arcane process.

I agree and can understand your and other's points. On the other hand, we act like this internet thing has been around for a 100 years already. A University shouldn't have to change It's process just because the fans are more aware of the mess.

bad is bad, and a mess is a mess, regardless of social awareness.
that is of course, assuming it's bad and a mess.
I'm assuming.

If I'm Kelly I'm gone at the end of the year to the NFL or to a school that doesn't try to destroy the football team.

I honestly don't see this as trying to destroy football team. These kids participated in something sketchy enough for it to be investigated. The issue is just a school set in its ways. It's taken Weis and Kelly great lengths to get things changed in the football program. What do you think it would take to change things on the academic side. And until now there's been nothing that's challenged the current system to even begin the thought of is this working properly.

I don't think it's trying to destroy the football team at all. I think it was people panicking and making poor decisions because they were unprepared for something like this.

At any other school, they first would've gotten to the very bottom of the cheating and who was guilty of what. Then, they would've done damage control... minimizing both PR fallout and NCAA exposure. Then and only then would they have had a press conference announcing their actions while also presenting any report of findings necessary to the NCAA.

But once you fuck up in the beginning and leak news prior to having your ducks in a row, there is virtually no going back. I don't know what they could really have done differently from the point of the first bungled press conference following when they opted to hold players out... frankly, the only conceivable improvement would've been moving "quicker" which is what most parties expected and were disappointed with the lack of alacrity.

These kind of comments can make a man question everything. It's not that much of a life or death thing, obviously. We just won 4 games in a row. Trolling has significantly hit an all time low! I can't read through half of these comments without wholeheartedly deciding that I'm obviously just too much of a homer willing to see the best in something that takes 'our' University serious

I love how everyone assumes that the NFL is just lining up to take BK away as soon as he shows any interest.

I think he has a little more to prove before any solid program would give him a shot.

This post is full of things that puzzle me.

Sorry Brian, but it won't be wrapped up until a decision is made.

Earlier this week while down in Dallas, the sports talk mentioned Kelly is one of a handful of college coaches NFL teams would consider.

He's an adult. He's has an excellent temperament. He is very protective of his organization. He's very organized and dependable. He's going to set out a very well thought-out plan, and execute it. He's won everywhere he's been. He'd be a very safe hire for someone.

My thought exactly. Well said.

LOL no way. I, at minimum, want Kelly next year. Then trestman gets fired and he takes bears. But like others I really want him to retire Irish.

Okay...since I cannot sleep, I'll ask it...

HYPOTHETICAL

Kelly goes to the NFL after this year, who do we line up?

(I do not think it will happen but to belabor the previous posts)

Oh, wow, now we're gaming if/when Kelly bolts, and spitballing replacements. This is totally thread of the year. Maybe of the millennium. I love it. Hitting on every single last insecure pathology of the Notre Dame fanbase.
