I moved on to thinking about other things quite awhile back. I get distracted easily.

Can we get a vBet event going for this where we can wager on the day of the announcement for each player?

Jason is trying to keep stuff accessible from the Front Page "family friendly" (thus, the return of the profanity filter). More adult-oriented content and language is still passable in the Leprechaun Lounge, private groups, etc.

I think some anthropology or sociology major could use this thread as the basis for a great term paper on tribal psycho-social dynamics and response to trauma. Maybe even a doctoral thesis - though that'd be more likely if we got a few hundred more posts in here.

So what happens if nothing happens this week?

Can the suspended players file something with the NCAA to force ND to actually do something? Or do they have to get lawyers?

As long as ND is following policy, nothing they can do about it.

All joking aside, I've said it a few times in this thread already...NOTHING GOOD TAKES THIS LONG. For those that have been impatient about the decision, I'd say find something else to occupy your time because when we do find out, you're probably going to be very disappointed.

It's simple. We move on to next week which we've been doing every week!

Wait, is this still going on?

Yeah, at this point if we don't end up getting any of these players back for this season, I wouldn't be upset. We curb stomped Michigan, and if we can beat USC as well I feel the season was a success.

So what happens if nothing happens this week?

This thread grows like the Nothing from The Neverending Story

The only thing that has truly bothered me about this entire situation in terms of how it's being handled is the fact that BK said the administration told him early last week that there would be a resolution "quickly." To me, that means a week or less. So either someone lied to BK or there has been a complication.

Yeah, and BK last week seemed irritated about this....

Another possibility is that ND wants the NCAA to agree with their decision and the NCAA is examining the evidence and mulling its decision with the usual speed.

That's a really good point but I don't know about the plausibility. The NCAA takes forever to come to a conclusion so I don't know if we have the luxury of waiting for them to "agree".

That would be best possible scenario assuming they don't want to vacate all wins and raze the university.

You forget that the NCAA can move very quickly when it wants to...if you don't agree, see how quickly they re-instated Cam Newton after his half day suspension before the Alabama game a few years ago.

Good call, I stand corrected. I hope this is what's happening behind the scenes so we aren't waiting for the banhammer to drop. If we can just confess the sins publicly, acknowledge the punishment and move forward, that would be best case scenario (including getting some of the players back).

I think there was miscommunication with athletics department people. Basically, from what I was told, when they asked when hearing would occur they got answers like "immediately after the investigation completes" or "very quickly after we have all the facts." Which to them meant it would be resolved in a couple days to a week after the official close of the investigation. Which appears to be an incorrect assumption.

At this point, I'm hoping we get clarity on the players involved in short order and get reinstatement/expulsions done and move on with the season. And then don't make any formal release of findings or other announcements until we've gone through a long collaborative effort with the NCAA to find out what games (if any) need to be vacated... and hopefully that announcement comes in March-June.

We all have to realize there are two components here:
1. The academic component, where honor committees have to determine both culpability and punishment of individuals. This has little to no intersection with the athletics save whether a student is separated from the university or eligible to participate.
2. The athletics aspect, which is parsing the information they've got and determining how this applies to past games, etc. This is all handled by the compliance/athletics department.
