That DD still has not received notice of his hearing tells me that nothing should come this week. I assume that he would be present for an appeal, no? That no letter has come means no resolution this week.

What a joke.

I would like to say that I am done with this, but I am not done with this. That it has taken this long pisses me off. As a professor, I would be pissed that resolution took this long. That Jack isn't doing more to expedite this process really pisses me off. That these guys are being held in limbo, from an academic and athletic standpoint, would really piss me off if I was their parent. I love the standards that hold at ND, but keeping kids in limbo like this is inexcusable. Make a decision so they can either resume their lives or transfer to complete their education.

Couldn't have said it better.

Stop bending over backwards to pretend you don't care about the football team.

Are we just making things up now?

If we're going into "appeal" territory, that means the players have already been deemed guilty by the honesty committee.

Am going by his tweet yesterday. It appears that he is waiting for a hearing to occur, but I would venture to say that he has not been contacted about a time and date for said hearing. I am just making an assumption on that. I don't want to speculate, but usually there is a formal written notice about the appeal process, and I don't think the Tweet would have come if he had already received word on when the date is.

I guess I am lumping appeal and committee together. Sorry, its been a few years since I left ND and the process isn't nearly as clear as it should be.

Ok, thanks for explaining.

I think it's fair to assume that tweet means 'waiting', but waiting on what is a crap shoot. Could have already had his hearing and waiting for a decision, could be waiting for his hearing, etc.

That would be ideal.

I'll grant that his tweet probably meant he's waiting for something, but it's a bit of a leap to infer that it's the hearing he's waiting for. There are a number of different possibilities.

1. Waiting on a hearing.
2. Hearing happened, player cleared, waiting to be reinstated.
3. Hearing happened, player found guilty, waiting for punishment.
4. Hearing happened, player found guilty, player punished, waiting for appeal date.
5. Hearing happened, player found guilty, player punished, appeal heard, player cleared, waiting to be reinstated.
6. Hearing happened, player found guilty, player punished, appeal heard, appeal denied, waiting for punishment.

Of these, only the first two would be cause to ask "what's taking so long."

Amazingly pathetic IMO that they can't come to a conclusion yet, considering all of the info was placed on their lap last Thursday.

It's like they have no precedent on how to punish cheating. I mean, you have the investigation report, you have the involved members on campus, what the fuck more do you need.

I totally agree.

But what bothers me even more is that the University powers to be could have definitely forced the process along, but chose not to, because they don't want to appear to be favoring getting any players reinstated for the Michigan game.

Quit trying to pretend you don't care about the football team, when you obviously do.

I'll also throw this possibility out there... If a player cheated on a certain assignment sometime in the Spring and he's now been given an F on that assignment, it's not as easy as flipping a switch to recalculate his grade for the course and then subsequently recalculate his GPA from that point forward. We know DD has been borderline with his academics, so it's possible that he received the lenient punishment of simply failing the assignment(s) in question, but that grade might have ramifications on his overall GPA that might call his eligibility in question.

How are they in academic limbo? It's very unlikely anyone can transfer with a void hanging over their head but it's even less likely to happen when the semester has already started. There's a reason transfers occur prior to the season and school. You can't just transfer into a school where week(s) have passed by. Based solely on the timing of this, there was never a possibility for anyone to transfer.. So let's stop pretending ND is denying them an education

I think the longer this draws out the worse the outcome will be...I've got my mind around none of them coming back. I'm usually pretty positive about things but nothing that has been reported is making me feel better about any of them. They are are still all clumped together...none of them got "freed" early because it was obvious they were clean. At first i thought they "cast a broad net" just to make sure they had it contained and would start letting the non-offenders particiipate. My gut tells me they are afraid of guys "Lawyering up" and are being triple thorough. Just not good.

Holy shit koon (and everyone else), the Notre Dame faculty and administrators don't owe you a damn thing. They have full time fucking jobs that don't involve dropping everything they do so that a couple of jackasses can play football on Saturday. It doesn't work that way and I'm so fucking glad it doesn't. DaVaris fucking Daniels can go through the same process I went through because he's no damn better than I was just because he can catch a ball.

And say at least one is cleared after Michigan. Knowing it's academic related and tied to cheating in some way, if they had announced prior to rice a 2 game suspension, how many would be up in arms? It's essentially the same thing. So are you mad it's taking so long or are you mad that were not privy to this process and timetable? There are 70+ student athletes who have not been found guilty or were not associated with academic investigation

Play ball and quit speculating over 3rd hand speculation

After we lose to Michigan, they will get cleared. Anyone who is a fan of ND football will be consumed in full meltdown mode and it'll take all the pressure off

I truly believe, deep in my heart, that there is no freaking way we are losing to Michigan. FVCK MICHIGAN.

Maybe ND will free them on Friday?
Trying to catch Michigan off guard?
Maybe Jenkins, Kelly, and Swarbrick are all in on it?
Maybe Nostradamus?
... Kind of spelled like Notre Dame......

I agree with this fully (although I might have put it more delicately ... wizards makes his point with his characteristic, um, enthusiasm), and I'll add that I don't understand how so many people here seem so sure that they know how long it should take to make this decision. You guys don't know what evidence the investigation turned up, so you can't know how long it should take to comb through it and make an appropriate decision. For all you know there could be 1000s of pages of emails for committee members to look through, all in their spare time while they are doing their normal jobs and fulfilling their normal responsibilities.

I'm frustrated too, but some people are going beyond frustration and claiming that there is negligence or dereliction of duty in failing to resolve this matter faster. I don't know how you can say that and feel confident about it. No one really knows the facts.
