Update on Mark Andrews and how much he enjoyed his visit and how he may come back this summer with teammate Kyle Allen.

Other than that, just updates on prospects likely to receive visits this week from various coaches. Good to see the staff putting a ton of emphasis on Texas and Louisiana.

I'd like to see us recruit Bama and Louisiana a lot harder. Sounds obvious, but the reason is we offer something those recruits are not used to. Whereas when we're in California we offer great football and academics, but so does Stanford now. In Florida, Miami can hold its own academically (although we're better). If we could create a niche in those two states, I'd be ecstatic.

I don't think it's worth it to try and recruit Alabama on a consistent basis honestly, Lousiana has more talent and whenever we offer a Alabama kid there seems to be 0 interest whereas there is some from the Louisana kids usually

Justin Tuck was from Alabama.

I didn't say we should never recruit someone from Alabama, I said:

Justin Tuck is one guy (and I'm sure there's been a couple others) and that was years ago now. All I'm saying is the last two years a couple offers go out to Bama kids and they usually have 0 interest. Will there be an exception? Yes

Justin Tuck was from Alabama.

And he was recruited in the year 2000. Bama was a train wreck that had just come off a 3-8 season.

It's different now. We will not consistently pull kids from Alabama until that program starts to suck again.

EDIT: Just to show how different things were in the early-2000's: The head coach of Alabama was looking to change positions and take over either KANSAS or TX A&M. He ended up choosing A&M in 2002.

I think quick's interest would be considered serious. He spent an entire weekend at ND. Also keep in mind that we are going to be playing catch up with recruiting of WR because our expected number of receivers has went up since the transfers of Neal and ferguson. I would look for us to get serious with some prospects over the spring evaluation period now that we have a larger need for receivers.

It's a total guess at this point, but it could very well be Braden Smith, Nelson, or even Bars or Starks.

I thought he was planning on taking an OV before deciding? Has this changed, or am I confusing him with someone else?

And lets face it, regardless of the order...all four of those guys could end up at ND. I'm very excited for the state of ND football!

You're probably right, but if Nelson commits soon it might incline him to make his move sooner rather than later if he feels strongly for ND.

Anyone who's dialed in with the recruiting side of things have a quick-n-dirty breakdown of how many we're expected to take per position group this year?

I'm on my phone or I'd dig it up. If someone hasn't gotten to it by the time I get to a computer I will.

As far as I understand:

QB: 1
RB: 2
WR: 3 (+1)
TE: 2
OT: 2 (+1)
OG: 2 (+1)
- we would take a 4th Wr and 5th O-Lineman if they were elite

DT:1-2
DE: 2-3 (not counting DT/DE cross)
OLB: 1-2
ILB: 2-3
CB: 2-3
S: 0-1
- Looking for DTs, would take an extra DE or OLB if they were elite pass rusher, not worried about safety

I think we need a safety. If we don't take one, that will be one safety over two years and that's not good. Yes, we're loaded at safety now but in two years that will not be the case.

Personally, I think we get 3 DBs: 1 pure CB and 2 athletes. We'll be fine. Devin Butler could play.

If they get Starks on board, he is a RB/S swing guy, he can go where depth is worse.

I think Butler is destined for corner, in fact, I think they already decided that? Anyways, agreed about getting athletes that can play either, but I don't think one of the 'either or' guys came in the last class. Starks might even be that guy (rb/safety) this year.

Agreed. I thought you were talking about emergencies. Butler and Onwualu could handle safety, if necessary. But I would always bring in one a year.
