What bothers me about the university's handling of this situation is the timing of the player's removal from practice, etc. It is going on a week now and these four guys have been in limbo. It is possible that some (or even all) of these players are ultimately found to be innocent of these allegations. If that is the case, how has justice been served by preventing them from practicing and competing for spots on the starting roster?

Being that a hearing could not be convened quickly because of the unavailability of student representatives on the panel, shouldn't the situation have been kept quiet and consequences delayed until a judgement had been rendered?

If a player violated the honor code, give him the proper consequence. However, consequencing everyone suspected of involvement without going through due process, is in my mind, wrong.

A win would be vacated against Rice if the players were allowed to play with Notre Dame knowing of possible cheating and eligibility issues. And the replacements, if they are found guilty before Rice, wouldn't have had first team reps in practice.

I think these people know what they're doing.

Have a feeling we might hear something tomorrow, or at least I hope. Can't have these distractions the week going into Rice.

Agreed. Either tomorrow or the start of next week, there has to be a verdict or this story will blow up to epic proportions.

Drew Magary's a professional troll. Huntr's post is spot on. And I've no idea why I keep coming back to this thread expecting actual news.

Actually, I think we are hearing the death rattle of this story already. It's being strung out and appears to be losing steam. If it goes multiple weeks into the season, it could look really bad on ND but I don't think they are in a hurry to get ahead of that.

I don't mean to rule out the idea that we get info soon but I doubt the story will blow up more than the first few hours after it leaked. Unless it turns out to be a system-wide scandal, I think this story plays out relatively quietly and ND may even be applauded.

I deleted the Magary link because Magary is doesn't deserve clicks. I used to love his fun bag. Then I realized he's just not talented and is the journalism equivalent of a shock jock or blue comic. That article is just trollish clickbait and Deadspin/80% of the Gawker network is what's wrong with society.

See.....this is always what prevented me from texting dick pics......now that I know that everything will fit, so to speak, it's a brave new world.

Completely unrelated to the thread, but I just noticed your avatar and....FUCK JEREMY CLARKSON!

That A-hole does nothing but shit on my favorite car of all-time, the Corvette!

Everytime they do a clip on the Vette they have to put it up next to a foreign car with twice the price tag just to keep up with it.

I feel better know.

Continue.

I used to be a GM fan...my last 3 vehicles were Chevy Astro, Pontiac Grand Prix GTP, and currently another Pontiac Grand Prix GTP...but then they got a bail out, sent jobs to China afterwards like a big FU to taxpayers, and they closed the Pontiac division. I'll never have a brand new GTO...so now the only dream I can still have is to procure a Judge someday. I'm done with GM the next time I'm searching for a new car.

Wait, people still buy American cars that aren't trucks?

Yeah, that's probably what it's going to come down to for me next round if I want to keep buying American. There's not a lot of great American products when it comes to cars these days, at least not for a decent price for a family man. I'll probably end up getting a truck with a crew cab or something. Need something that can survive in the Midwest, and it wouldn't hurt to have a bed to haul stuff in.

My last car purchase was a Honda Odyssey. Love it.

Yeah, that's what the wife picked just before our 3rd kid came in June. We needed the minivan to fit all those car seats in. I test drove a Dodge Caravan, Chrysler Town and Country, some Mazda model, a Ford van I think, and the Honda Odyssey. The Odyssey was hands down the comfiest ride, it felt sturdy and had good safety ratings, and it rolled like it was put together well and taken care of. Of course, none of vans I test drove were brand new, I didn't have $40k to drop on a van, but they were all low miles. The other vehicles didn't come close to measuring up, and since the Odyssey is manufactured in 'Bama I was cool with getting one.

When it comes to what I drive I don't need room necessarily, so a truck is fine. I just prefer to buy American if I can help it.

Did I click on the wrong thread? What's going on in here?

I heard everyone is getting cleared in the morning and as a prize for holding students accountable the NCAA is awarding us with 3 honorary heismans and 5 honorary national championships

Spread the good word!

I don't know how much more they need to dig. This isn't a murder trial, it's copy and paste BS. I understand trying to uphold integrity and blah blah blah, but the fact remains is that ND tries way too hard on this stuff, and essentially they make big deals out of something that is minuscule. Honestly, I don't see any realistic conclusion that justifies the amount of seriousness the school has taken in this situation. They pretty much screwed the pooch by murmuring the possibility of vacating wins. I forgot to mention how much of an effect this has on the team. Losing these guys for good is bad enough, but basically having them in limbo while the University twiddles their thumbs is just a big distraction. Say what you want, "Kelly has them focused, and Next man in", yeah yeah. This doesn't just blow over. Let's just hope they're waiting for the students to return to make their verdict. This whole thing is just a major distraction.

All of which ND won't accept because they're too modest.

Question for you legal experts:

Say this thing runs its course and come to find out, the girl just proof read the papers from the athletes own work. In that case would the players in question have a lawsuit vs ND for defamation of character? Because their names were made public and innocent ruling or not, people will always have question in the back of their minds. Could impact future employment opportunities.

And honestly would serve ND right for pulling the trigger without having the facts straight.

Question:

Which loss is greater for team success. Everett Golson suspension last year or the 4 players suspended this year? Let's assume all four players will not play this season.

Keep in mind, this isn't a football investigation, but an academic investigation. Football has nothing to do with it other than four of the students play football. I think they are handling this simply as an academic issue. There are already enough people at the school who don't appreciate what sports does for the school. Give these guys preferential treatment and the divide gets even bigger.

Their names were public before the ND press release.

What trigger did ND pull before they had their facts straight? Holding the players out of practice?

The Press Release and PC were on August 15th. The formal investigation started on Jul 29th. On the 15th ND, Jenkins said it was still in progress and no one had been found guilty.

I honestly think it's a wash.

Last year, even as frustrating as watching Tommy could be, ND still was in every game. If the D would have been healthy and played better, I think you can say we could have been 11-2. Plainly put, while Tommy was frustrating and we knew the offense could have been more productive, I really only think poor QB play was responsible for one loss.

Looking forward to this year, I think with or without the players mentioned, a really good year for ND would be 10-2. If the offense fails to live up to our expectations (like the D did last year), we would be staring at another 8-4. The offense will need to play well to make up for the loss of KVR and IW. With that said, I really don't see the addition or loss of those two being the reason why we lose multiple games.

I'd start with asking, what loss(es) from last season can be attributed in large part to not having a more mobile, strong-armed QB?
