So any rampant speculation as to where Kelly is headed at the end of the year?

I just don't understand the vacating wins thing. Does anyone remember if U$C had to vacate any of they're wins during the Reggie Bush period. Did UNC have to vacate three seasons worth of wins? Just asking because I don't remember.

I met up with a family from my town at the Pinstripe Bowl. Big Notre Dame fans who were taking their three sons to their first ND game. I asked the oldest one (7yrs old and a great athlete who I coached in football and baseball) why he was a ND fan. His response was something like "because I'm Irish" or "because my parents love them", and I said "Good answer, but the reason you should like them is ND does things the right way and you should always do things the right way". I went on to talk about ND's academics and how academics are important, blah blah blah.

Now, it seems I was full of shit and we're no better than any other program. I'll patiently wait for word from ND, but this sucks.

No you arent because when the school found out it got self-reported. That is the difference there are always going to be bad people who make dumb decisions and affect things but ND investigating itself and turning itself in they are still doing the right thing.

Not for nothing, but if Notre Dame instigated an internal investigation and then takes care of business in the correct manner, then they still do things "the right way." Covering it up or giving out slaps on the wrist would be doing it "the wrong way." There is no way an organization can control what individuals do. They can only control the response.

I'm not sure what other schools would suspend/expel players for this type of thing. Most would likely look the other way (unless the girl was hot, then they would watch and pretend it didn't happen). This is going on everywhere, the difference being ND tries to put the kibosh on it.

With KVR and Ishaq it doesn't make sense. BK just said 2 days ago they're starting. He had to have know about all this, so why would he go out like that? With Daniels I can see him knowing the way BK has been playing up Brown all Camp. Moore, well... He's never been talked about.

Important excerpt:

Sources said the NCAA is aware of the situation, but the school initiated the investigation and has handled the inquiry itself to this point. A source described the school’s knowledge of the potential fraud as “recent” and indicated that the academic questions came to light this month.

If the investigation is ongoing, there may be some uncertainty as to who's guilty of what exactly.

This is an example of us going WAY above and beyond in doing the right thing.

Conducting an internal investigation to catch academic fraud and then expelling the players? Unheard of in modern college sports. Contrast that to UNC where the school set up fake classes and then stuck their head in the sand when there was a whistleblower.

Sad thing is this is where ND hurts itself; in terms of football... just about no other 'name' school would self-report and hammer themselves here. I get the integrity issue, but at the same time we have to stop fooling ourselves, if ND is the only one playing by these rules the reality is winning like other 'name' programs is certainly going to be (and has been) sacrificed.

I'm with you and Sherm. If the press conference is as bad as I assume it will be, I might be returning my ND fan card.

I'm genuinely disappointed in my school right now.

Disappointed that it happened?? Or disappointed that they are possibly dropping the hammer.

Disappoint that it happened. Drop the hammer, it's the right thing to do. But if it does go up the chain of command (and there's a chance it might not) then that really hurts.

I'm also disappointed that ND student-athletes would resort to that. I know they're not perfect, but that's not a high threshold to meet as an individual.

Why would you be disappointed in the university they are internally investigating this and are looking to expel players once they found out about it.

Makes more sense. Drop those four in separate rooms and interrogate them immediately after the tutor comes throwing accusations all over the place. After Shembo, I imagine they have a process in place to go ape shit on info gathering the minute something like this surfaces.

Could origin of the rumor be everyone knowing this chick's MO and suddenly on the warpath?

Right. I appreciate this perspective that you and others have shared, and I agree with it.

Maybe I should revise my original post and say "ND players are no better than those at other programs", rather than indict the whole school/program . I get that the University can't control the actions of every player and there will be outliers in every group, but this isn't just one guy, it's a group of them (5% of our scholarship players). It's also unfair to group the players that ARE doing the right things in with the ones that aren't, but fuck, this is really disappointing.

Dude, if a hot (By South Bend standards) student offered to write paper(s) for you in exchange for sex, and you're 18-22 years old, how do you say no? /noitalics

I don't think you guys are looking at this through the right lens.

How many of you ever cheated in school? Copied homework or used Cliffnotes or anything that would be an honor code violation? That doesn't make you a bad person, nor does banging your tutor.

What's beyond dumb is that we put together an internal investigation to bust our own football players, where without the investigation nothing would ever come to light.

We are literally the only school that would ever do something like this. If we're not willing to be competitive, then we should just drop football because I don't want to watch some mediocre team where we're the only ones playing by a set of rules that doesn't exist for other teams. Everyone else in CFB is literally laughing at how we handicap and shoot ourselves in the foot.

Even Stanford passed out literal sheets to athletes with joke classes listed that would earn credit for their majors... school sanctioned "hey, take this for a free A." But at Notre Dame we've got Sherlock fucking Holmes trying to catch plagiarists.
