Amir's "medical redshirt" is no different than a normal redshirt because he only missed one season (2012) due to injury. It's no different than if he hadn't received the waiver to play immediately upon transfer and sat out the 2012 season. Chase's situation is different because he missed two seasons (2012 + 2013) to injury. That makes him eligible for a 6th year in 2016 in the event he is asked back in 2015. Neither are "guaranteed" to come back any more than the 13 other 5Y candidates. These are just two of the many tough 5Y decisions on the horizon.
Re: KVR, if anything you're jinxing it by taking him off a list he belongs on, but it's your list. I hope he blows up this season and really makes it a hard decision. As much as I'd like him back in 2015, no player on our team besides Golson could have as big of an impact on our W-L this season than KVR. I think he returns, but I wasn't very accurate on my predictions this year (Tuitt, Niklas) so who knows.

Good lord, Safety is thin-- I hadn't truly noticed until now. I'd have to think Farley would be a no-brainer to bring back, based on his steady play this year and lack of depth. Hardy as a possibility as well (assuming he's eligible...and a decision is reached by then).
I suppose Turner could move back to Safety, but then who would be JO's back up? LB depth isn't exactly brimming either.

Supposedly it allows him to run the scout team full-time, which allows Kizer to learn the system in case injuries thrust him into a game.
We have no idea whether it's a four-year scholarship or not, I would expect that it isn't.
Is he not allowed to run the scout team as a walk-on?
Why would you expect it isn't? When did ND start giving freshman one year scholarships?
