If there's the potential for jail time get a lawyer. Nobody here can give you legal advice.

Wow, that's seems petty. If you are going to get charged with that, should have at least streaked across the field or something. Seriously, I can't see that charge sticking, seems ridiculous. Cop must've been the ONE syracuse fan.

Sucks to hear. I understand he is just doing his job but like previously stated, in instances like that police officers do have wiggle room and can make a judgement call to file charges or not.
Hope it all works out.
But on a serious note when a person gets banned on IE they get a line through their name. If one of our members goes to jail do we put bars on their avatar?
What is even the point of getting an attorney? It's probably a petty offense. Plead guilty, pay a $50 fine and move on. That's literally as trivial as it gets. No employer or anyone else will ever care.
up to 1 year jail, 1,000 fine![]()
i got a lawyer who is hoping that i can just plead down to a lesser charge or get it dismissed....but 950.00 later....not to mention my wife isn't the happiest of campers either
No, but they do get an asterisk after their name. (Take a gander at the Online User's List on the Front Page some time.)

So an asterisk indicates those who have earned their "street cred." Good to know.
New goal, earn an asterisk.
Call it a W
forgot to post....but walked away w/ a 133.00 fine...but 1000 in lawyer fees....
seems like it would be a net loss for the govt. no way they made any money off $133.
now the lawyer, he loved this im sure.

Man, non CPA auditor and Im $155. Is the extra school worth another $100/hr?You might be surprised. My billable rate is $250/ hour (which is a little below average for attorneys in Maricopa County), so that's about 4 hours of attorney time. I have no idea what his attorney did, or how long it took, but even minor violations can take significant time to resolve.
People love thinking this. Truth is, the lawyer probably walked away thinking he gave away too much free service and is stressed about making that up in the future.
Sounds like you were lucky Panda.

Sounds more like the lawyers fault for not billing more to me
No. There are far more JDs than there are are decent legal jobs, and our law schools are continuing to crank out more graduates than the market can bear.
Everybody hates the billable hour system, most of all lawyers. Many firms are moving toward flat fees wherever it's feasible, but it's very difficult to reliably estimate how much time will be required to resolve a dispute once litigation is on the table.

sure was! looking at about almost 3g's after everything w/ tickets/fine/expensesExpensive game.
NJ---f that stateNew York is a horrid state.
What was the "field jumping" charged knocked down to?
still the same thing but there was a sliding scale of a fine/jail time.....was told from lawyer they just have a 1,000 fine and year jail as max to be some kind of deterent...said had i been malicious and done it during the game to interupt the game then that would have been a much heftier fine.....

alcohol and excitement clouded my judgementso in hindsight, going to ask someone already on the field to take the picture for you in future instances right?![]()
If the max fine is $1000, sounds like you would have been better off without the lawyer. My guess is that no judge is gonna put a guy in jail for something like this. That's for extreme cases. You still would have been able to tell him what happened and he would have reduced the fine. But even if would have hit you with the full $1000, that's less than you paid overall.
Was this a misdemeanor? If so, I probably would have just wrote the judge asking to plead guilty and pay the full fine. I did this when I got a ticket for not wearing a PDF on the San Juan River in NM. Pretty much told the clerk that if they didn't give me an option that didn't involve flying to NM, that they could simply put a warrant out for me and I would never return to their state ever again. At first there was an ackward silence, but eventually she just told me she would deliver a request to the judge. Who promptly agreed and even reduced my fine.

i spoke w/ 2 lawyers, one on this site and they both advised that since it was POSSIBLE of jail time that you just lawyer up....i could have risked it but this is the townships cash cow supposedly....it isn't even a misdemeanor, he said it was like a traffic citation but wouldn't even show up on background check......i just wanted to go the safest route possible because being a government employee i would have been fired IF jailed
I have a question about a parking garage agreement I signed that states you have to cancel 30 days prior the next month in order to cancel with out being charged for the next month. This was obviously in the fine print and I signed this 3 years ago so I forgot about it. I submitted my formal request to cancel 20 day out not 30. Now they want to charge me for the month. I told them to go fly a kite. Would they really take me to small claims over $200?
