Sadly, the buzz around the news is that it's pretty serious.

The big "C" is being thrown around as the diagnosis. Praying that isn't the case, but I'm worried it might be.

He has had issues. Hope for the best. Writing is on the wall that he likely won't be coaching or will be more than limited. He admitted in an interview their are guys on the roster he still hasn't met.

Deion has objectively done a good job at Colorado and I believe has actually dealt with a myriad of health issues during his time. I know he deservingly gets plenty of doubters but I don’t have any thought to this be some ruse.

A la Urbie and OSU? I don't think so - The guy had toes amputated in the last 3-4 years. Deion is (well, really was) a physical specimen in terms of body architecture and the speed that came along with that. IMO, this points to that in his effort to be a super star coach, he's not watching his diet and is likely getting things like diabetes (amputations are rampant for diabetics) and now if the cancer prognosis is true, even more so. A guy that architecturely sound should not be getting this impaired, if he is being careful with his diet and adopting even moderate health habits. Full disclosure, I haven't read much about his diet and health habits, other than hearing about his few toe amputations over the past few years, but I strongly suspect he's not eating good foods (and you don't need to be fat for that to be the case btw) and not taking care of himself with his busy coaching lifestyle. I will pray for his speedy healing.

Elko was already looking chunky by the first game last year.

Anyone doubting legitimacy?

Yup. I said this would be a make or break year for him, and probably break. Losing Hunter and his son, he's been taking a lot of transfers and not really focusing on maintaining Colorado's high school recruiting. He probably saw a huge drop off this year, not to mention a potentially tougher schedule starting off with Georgia Tech, then 4 currently ranked games against BYU, Iowa State, Kansas State, and Arizona State fresh from the playoff. They've also got Utah, who will likely rebound from last season, and TCU will give them trouble. Sanders definitely has had health issues since he started in Colorado, but my guess is he took one look at this new team and said "This year could be bad for my career."

I’m with Ulk,… at least in wait and see mode. I hope he’s ok health wise but also wouldn’t put anything past him and his camp,… We will see

Yeah, you could be right, but again, he's literally lost toes, and if you stop and think about that for an athlete like Deion, IMO that is a reflection of some bad health.

That's all true but it was also true back in December/January. It would be exceedingly shitty to quit now, right before the start of the season, if it wasn't for something serious like health reasons. Like reputation never recovers shitty.
Say what you will about Deion but he values his reputation.

A&M pays well enough that Elko could perhaps invest in some more flattering sideline attire. But, yes, it looks like he's aged 10 years in three years. Head coaching will do that if you're not careful.

Quite possibly, but you never know. Family history plays a big part.

Deion Sanders had two toes on his left foot amputated due to blood clots in 2021. The clots developed in his femoral artery and restricted blood flow to his toes, which caused the tissue to die, according to ESPN. The situation was further complicated by compartment syndrome and a family history of blood clots.

No, Sanders did not lose his toes due to diabetes He had two toes amputated on his left foot due to blood clots stemming from a previous surgery, according to multiple news sources. The initial surgery was to address a dislocated toe and an inflamed nerve. The blood clots restricted blood flow to his toes, causing cell death (necrosis) and leading to the amputation.

I use to work with a guy that was a fanatic about his health. Ran almost everyday and never ate anything bad. BMI was probably around 10% maybe less. He ends up with a blood clot and had to go on thinners. He had difficulties coming to grips with it and wondered how he could get one considering his lifestyle. Regardless, here's to a speedy recovery.

I know he's has a history of blood clots and had to have some toes amputated. Wouldn't be surprised if it was related to that. I think at one point there was a concern he would lose his whole foot

Serious health issues may make someone less inclined to keep going for a variety of reasons, one of which being that both of his sons are no longer with the program.

I'm not in a position to make doubts or assumptions about what's going on with his health, regardless of the timing.
