Great comment at the bottom:

The comments on the original post say it all. This poor guy is getting torn apart for expressing his opinion that Google's culture stifles and punishes dissenting opinions. And his co-worker leftists who are eviscerating him can't even acknowledge that they're proving his point.

This is the new normal though. Evil preaches tolerance until it gains power, then it crushes all dissent.

So, did you enjoy your time at Google?.

Good post from the CEO. Thought these were most pertinent excerpts:
First, let me say that we strongly support the right of Googlers to express themselves, and much of what was in that memo is fair to debate, regardless of whether a vast majority of Googlers disagree with it. However, portions of the memo violate our Code of Conduct and cross the line by advancing harmful gender stereotypes in our workplace.
At the same time, there are co-workers who are questioning whether they can safely express their views in the workplace (especially those with a minority viewpoint). They too feel under threat, and that is also not OK. People must feel free to express dissent. So to be clear again, many points raised in the memo—such as the portions criticizing Google’s trainings, questioning the role of ideology in the workplace, and debating whether programs for women and underserved groups are sufficiently open to all—are important topics. The author had a right to express their views on those topics—we encourage an environment in which people can do this and it remains our policy to not take action against anyone for prompting these discussions.
we need to find a way to debate issues on which we might disagree—while doing so in line with our Code of Conduct. I’d encourage each of you to make an effort over the coming days to reach out to those who might have different perspectives from your own. I will be doing the same.

I have been on work related travel in Africa and Europe the past couple of weeks and had just started my family vacation here this week. I have decided to return tomorrow as clearly there’s a lot more to discuss as a group—including how we create a more inclusive environment for all.

Basically -- "look, you can't say a bunch of sexist shit and keep your job... period. But obviously there are some parts of the memo worthy of discussion and we don't want this to come off like we're rejecting 100% of the content of the memo."

That's about as well-said as you could hope from the CEO dealing with both sides of the issue.

I just wonder if "these are valid points we need to discuss" would still be the line if he HADN'T also said some sexist stuff in the memo.

If he had stuck to the points the CEO says merit conversation: Would he have been ignored? Would there have been a conversation? Would the SJW's still have called for his head and had their wish granted, simply because he challenged some "PC" ideas?

The cynical part of me says they would have labeled him the enemy from the start, even if he hand't said sexist things. But maybe I'm not giving Google's big dogs enough credit in how they would've handled it.

Are you married?

Tell me I'm wrong ;)

Yes and I know I'm always wrong until I'm right.

Anyhow, I thought it was a funny statement when you consider how completely off the rails and overly emotional grown men get watching 18-24 year olds run around with a ball. It's kind of crazy if you stop and think about it. Pro football makes even less sense.

i do have a pc rant is how is it these hipsters/yuppies who come in and gentrify certain neighborhoods and then think they can proclaim a new name of their neighborhood that they invaded and try and force it onto you and if any street in your neighborhood is named after a black historical figure they demand it be renamed because it's too ethnic for them.

How is it that these people can come into neighborhoods and demand we cater to their every needs by silencing the church bells and the ice cream truck and calling the cops on every party that happens and neighborhood block party and those making music on their stoop. if you come to the city either you assimilate or LEAVE!

Isn't that the same as, "If you come to this country either you assimilate or LEAVE!"

Some might say yes and some might say no, im saying it as when you know the city is nitty gritty like NY why you moving there to sanatize it (that's what my rant is about on the part of gentrification)

Jim Chambers, Atlanta gym owner, defends ban on cops, soldiers - Washington Times

Interesting read... raises a good topic for discussion on how some forms of discrimination are totally kosher and others are decried (or outright illegal). Favorite quote from the owner:
“We require no one to agree with any set of politics, but if you are hostile to the fringe, you ought to look elsewhere. We wanted to create a gym that wouldn’t be prohibitive due to cost, or overly aggressive, exclusionary jock culture. We want elite athletes and total newbs, anyone looking to pick up a bar. Meatheads welcome, too, so long as tolerance abounds.

Methinks he doesn't know what that word means. Anyways, I legitimately think this is smart marketing by him and have no issue with someone trying to run a business however they choose.

As emotional as some men get, tell me women don't go over the top and out-perform a man in the emotional category. I'm not even talking a pregnant woman, because that's an entirely different realm.

Depends on what type of "emotions" I suppose. I've had several male employers when I was working in construction who were straight nut jobs. For example the owner of a nursery I worked at would attack me and the other employee John in a Cato from the Pink Pather sneak attack style on a regular basis and legitimately try to get you into submission holds. It was crazy. On the flip side all my female superiors have been pretty even keeled and have never tried to bushwack me at work. Lol.

This article about the Google controversy by Slate Star Codex touches on a lot of points Lax brought up earlier. It would be difficult to recreate here, so click through if you're interested.

I'm serious, everyone loves to talk about how Latinas and Black women are crazy and I'm sitting here reading about you're collective relationship stories and views on women like:

This seems like a bad move, imo. I've got no problem if you wanna call out Trump on his regular BS, but discrediting him on this topic could have other effects. SDI or "Star Wars" is a perfect example. Many consider that Reagan announcing that project had a profound effect on bankrupting the Soviet Union. They went so far as to negotiate an offer to give up offensive weapons so that SDI would be "shut down," only to have Reagan decline. While it wasn't the blow that ended the Cold War, many historians have said it had major contributions to the effort. In the end, we never pursued the project as it would have bankrupted ourselves. I just don't see where calling Trump out on this benefits anyone (Except maybe this journalist), it just makes us look weaker.

All that matters is being right,... and that Trump is stupid.
