Texas has a significant amount of right wing groups advocating violence and other extremists who showing up at rallies. Include coronavirus skeptics/deniers, anti-vaxers, anti-government, etc. Alex Jones of InfoWars who's a right wing conspiracy buff showed up in their Humvee at a protest of hundreds in Austin organized by InfoWars recently.
Jones claims Sandy Hook was a hoax, etc. He told the crowd that “Texas is leading the way against the tyrants.” Jones blamed the Chinese government, globalists, communists, reporters and the Deep State for damage done by pandemic, which he called “a bioweapon meant to shut down our economy.” and says President Barack Obama "sold China" the virus. Hundreds marched on the Capitol.

If I remember correctly, Jeff Davis County, for instance, has some active militia groups. Such right-wing extremist protests did not draw any reaction like you indicated.
