Anybody finding any cool stuff? I've just been getting the basic normal/flying/poison Pokemon with the occasional water one. What are good places too look? Haven't really left town yet but people tell me it's not really worth going out into the sticks to find stuff. The only negative I can take from this game is that it's built such a way that only lame Pokemon will get powerful. Easy to max out a ratatat to dystroy a charmander when you'll never find more to level the lil guy up.
My wife and I went "house hunting" tonight, aka Pokemon hunting for this guy in the passenger seat. Just left and went 10 mins from my house, and told my wife to drive slow through the neighborhoods the next town over. Also drove through a park. Found a high number of basic stuff to transfer for candy along main roads and neighborhoods, but also found some water and bug types that haven't been around my house.
Parks and Colleges/Universities are where you're gonna find the good stuff, at least in my experience so far. I found a Bulbasaur at the park I drove through, which was surrounded by crappy bug types. I also found an Ekans, and then a Poliwhirl and a Krabby near a water tower in the park, which I don't think is a coincidence.
Magmars and Charmeleons are common at the college I work at, though I don't get to venture from my desk much during the day, so I've missed out thus far. I found an Abra at a University Hospital earlier in the day, and some other big stuff was outlined, but I didn't have time to look. I think there was an Exggsecute and a Ghastly, which means psychic types like hospitals.
The best place I found was a riverfront park. Onix were in abundance, as well as Golbats and Weepinbells (no Bellsprouts though, oddly enough). Found a Seadra down by the river too, and I could have stayed to farm Magikarp if I wanted.
TL;DR
Go to parks near rivers, as well as colleges/universities/hospitals. Explore big, frequently-visited places.
