We lost a hell of a lady. Sad stuff. RIP Pat

And ESPN just confirmed the loss of Buddy Ryan. Bad day for sports.

I had the privilege of meeting Pat when the Vols played ND my freshman year after she had announced she was stepping down in the foreseeable future. She waited around after the game for at least an hour taking pictures and signing autographs. Truly an incredible person.

Truly sad on both accounts. The John Wooden of women's sports, and the Mozart of NFL defenses.

RIP Pat. You elevated the ladies game so folks like Muffet and the guy in Conn. could enjoy their successes in the national spotlight.

Truly one of the greatest coaches of any sport and an excellent developer of young women. A lot of Wooden & Lombardi in that lady.

Let me get this right...Bruce Jenner was named woman of the year but never Pat Summitt? Hmmmm...ok then.

Coach Summitt might be the most influential person ever for all of women's sports, not just hoops. RIP to a true legend.

Well Pat was a woman every year, so she wasn't eligible

A great coach and a key figure in women's basketball. Her success helped to get women's basketball some much needed attention. She will be missed by many.

I did not find this out until an hour or so ago at bar trivia...I almost wanted to cry. Pat Summitt is a legend and her contributions and accomplishments within the realm of women's basketball should never be looked over or forgotten.

RIP Pat, your legacy will live on forever, and you will be missed.

An amazing woman that lived a tremendous life. My favorite quote from her:

"Here's how I'm going to beat you. I'm going to outwork you. That's it. That's all there is to it." - Reach For The Summit

An amazing woman that lived a tremendous life. My favorite quote from her:

That's all there ever is to it. People fail to understand that the only thing that you can do better than someone else is effort. Genetics, luck, and connections determine so much of what we get out of this world, but the one factor that we have control over is effort.

Coaches for coaches. Pat was a great one and as a coach, I mourn.

Thanks for the post, wooly.

I don't even follow women's basketball much but if you follow sports at all and have never heard of Pat Summitt, you may have been living under a rock for awhile.

Rest in peace coach, you were one of a kind.

It's sad she didn't get to live out her retirement, enjoying her success and all she did for college basketball. RIP Pat!
