Tommy is a supposed "schematic genius"... but I'd venture to say that he got outcoached in 40% of his games??? In big games, the number might honestly be under 50%. For every brilliant call he made, there was probably one equally boneheaded which ended up bombing.
I think Tommy will do well at Alabama where Saban cracks the whip and installs the "process". If Tommy's players can execute his calls, he will end up looking like a genius. Scheme is great if you have solid player development and execution. ND isnt there yet.
While BK left the program in a good place, for ND to take the next step it has to be with MF's players. Those kids still need to be coached up and developed. I think Parker can be successful with a simplified playbook coupled with strong S&C and player development. Practice needs to be about teaching fundamentals and execution through repetition. That's the recipe to a baseline 10 win season and how you make sure that Marshall and Stanford never happen again.
I think MF is circling the wagon with his guys to ensure consistent messaging. One step back in order to take 3 steps forward. Parker would not have been my first choice, but his hiring doesnt have to be the end of the world.
