How raw must Banks and Lugg be if a hobbled Hainsey is still the best option at RT?

Not raw IMO, Hainsey is the 2018 Joe Schmidt.

Matt at ISD was pretty excited from what he saw when Banks filled in at 1st team RT when Hainsey was out.

He's more hurt than they're letting on.

I think so too, which is why I am perplexed that they didn't have him rest up last week or this week.
Have him play a little against WF and hope he's back to full strength in time for Stanford.

You get to rest a good player (we hope) get some quality reps for the the back ups. This is a no brainier to me, but I am not the coach sooooo whatevs.

If Hainsey needs rest, they should shift Big Tommy out to RT since he's played a lot there. Lugg would then be somewhat insulated between Kraemer and Mustipher.

So, let’s grade out some plays for the OL.

1st Qtr, 2:36 in the 1st. We’re on 3rd and 9, the defense runs a stunt on the RG/RT and we whiff it. It causes a batted ball or arm. On third down. Drive over.

They’ll be more.

1sr Qtr. 1st and 10. With .55 to go in the first. Kramer gets lucky that he gets completely burnt on his block. The DL is upfield immediately upon handoff, yet we get a first down.

Terrible blocking, still a first down.

The next play Bars/Mustipher tag team the NT while the MLB comes free. Luckily enough Wimbush gets the pass off in time a complete pass.

Hey, can you have your nightmares without typing them on the board.

Unplug your keyboard and go back to sleep.

Wimbush runs for 200 yds Saturday.

I don’t want to bash the kids all game long but it’s embarrassing how bad our OL was. Not sure we’ll play an opponent that has this level of play.

I expect it to get better, but that doesn’t mean it has been.

Fair enough, I get that. I was just making a point to those that don’t understand how bad the OL play was.

Sorry if it came across too agrresive, my apologies. Sincerely.

But, the same remains. The OL has been terrible and if we want to “rate it”, it hasn’t look good.

FWIW, if anyone wants to educate themselves on OL play. Bars completely gives a sack, at 2nd 13:04.

Hainsey is obviously dealing with something, based on the clips and considering his history of not being a total turnstile.

He gets pancaked and run by easily because his legs are anchored, meaning that leg injury is effecting his mobility greatly at this point.

My question is if the staff and trainers were giving him a chance to play through something and whatever it was ended up getting worse, or if he wasn't quite letting on as to how bad it was, and got himself found out on Saturday.

I have to disagree with the 18 Stripes guy. Hainsey is definitely a high ceiling guy. I just never thought it was at OT. He just isn't big enough to get maximized there. Yes Yes Yes, ZMart was only 6-4 but if Ronnie Stanley and McG were in his class, he would have been Q before Q. The play should have been to take their time getting him up to 305 and move him inside, preferably to take over for Mustipher in '19. Put him in a position to maximize his physical skillset, especially with the stocked cupboard of capable 6-6 OT's behind him.

At least that's how I see it from 50,000 ft.

Reps to Lucci for being honest and addressing the reality of it.

If this current OL shows up to VT and Stanford, we're 4-2 at best in one month from now.

I don't agree with a lot of what you say, but you're spot on here.

I can't imagine what our O will look like with no run game at night in Blacksburg.

Far more to it than just the OL playing badly. Whole offense was unprepared and looked it. Bad routes, poor decisions by Wimbush, RB's missing holes and running into defenders, porous playcalling.

The OL has to play better than last week, but Long and the other offensive players have to pull their weight too.

I stopped, as it seemed to upset people but I re-watched the first 3 qtrs. it's not just Hainsey that was the issue. Bars looked completely lost at times. Which is the most concerning, IMO. Kraemer gave up a lot of ground and was slow on pulls. It was just a bizarre day.

With all that said, I'd expect it to get better. There seems to be a tremendous amount of pride in that room and I'd expect them to be much more focused going forward. This is where leadership needs to step up. Time for the big boys to play like it. The DL certainly is.

I didn't see major issue aside from some of the outside speed rushers from guys who will play on Sundays in the Michigan game. I didn't watch the BSU game but with all the noise it does make me wonder if they just weren't focused or maybe even had a unit party the night before and were hungover or something (mostly joking about the party/hungover thing) or just had the classic letdown game. I'll wait until about the Stanford game to fully judge any given unit, OL included.

Not sure about the OL, but I do know that Irishog77 loves him some unit parties.

Maybe this has been discussed already, but I saw a tweet from CFB Film Room that claims Wimbush has been pressured on 52.4% of his drop backs. Comp- Att 10-23, Adj. Comp Pct. 47.8%, TD-Int 0-3, Yard Per Att 6.3.
