Quarterback's job is a helluva lot easier when you have a dominating O line/ run game. And not spotting a team 21 like what happened at ASU

Great job by Harry today, I didn't think we could out-muscle LSU at the line of scrimmage. We dominated the trenches on offense.

Wonder what Kelly was lighting Harry up about? Did McGlinchey miss his man when EG got smoked?

Yes, during the game I was following the boxscore and they post tweets from reporters at the game. One of them notice that after Golson got abused, Harry was all over McGinchey when he reached the sideline. I didn't see a tweet about Kelly/Harry but the first rule of sanitary engineering is feces flows downhill.

O Line played their best game of the year, and McGlinchey played with a attitude. Saw him getting aggressive from start to after the whistle.

Grantland's Robert Mays just published a great article on Green Bay's OL titled "The Men Who Protect the Man." It's not directly relevant to ND, but it still gives a lot of good insight into the unique culture of Offensive Linemen. Here are some choice snippets:

Ted Thompson started scouting offensive linemen around the time Linsley was born. Yet after more than two decades, the Packers general manager has come to the same conclusion. “I think in my lifetime in football, offensive linemen, guys that you’ve been around, they’re all kind of the same,” Thompson says. “They’re like pack animals.”

“They’re ruthless,” Rodgers says. “You cannot be sensitive. The first time you show sensitivity to a comment — about a feature on your body, or about something in your personality, or something in your past — they will absolutely pulverize you. Which is how I think it should be in the O-line room. It’s all in good fun, because they really do love each other.”

By keeping the same five linemen almost the entire season, the Packers have been able to build their vocabulary into an entire language. “We’ve got so many dummy calls,” Sitton says. “Half the shit we say doesn’t mean a thing. It’s pretty cool when you can evolve within the season, learning a whole new thing.” In past seasons, the line has been a band forced to replace its drummer or bassist every week. The entire offense goes from writing songs to relearning chords. This year, they can riff, take chances. They can be a 1,500-pound Radiohead.

“When you get a hodgepodge line that’s changing week to week, you just kind of have to go by the base rules on a lot of plays,” Rodgers says. “The base rules are decent, but when you can incorporate your own creativity to the plays at the offensive line positions, you can really enhance them. So the communication has been amazing.”

“Offensive line isn’t an individual position,” Lang says. “When people look at you, they say, ‘Is your offensive line good or bad?’ They don’t say, ‘Well, the left guard’s good, the right tackle’s not good.’ They look at you as a whole.” This year, the whole adds up to more than it ever has.

OL really are the best. Didn't get to play at the varsity college level, but loved it in high school. I find myself spending more time critiquing OL than skill positions on offense. Great article.

Agree. I used to love reading the OL player questionnaires in the media guides during the Holtz era. Their answers were hilarious.

I think he's done an excellent job at developing NFL talent (Martin, Watt, and now Stanley). I know the production from the o-line was down this year but I don't think it was from a lack of talent. I'm glad to see they got it figured out against LSU

Though to be fair, Warriner coached Watt and Martin for 2 of those years.

Agreed and I think BK play calling puts some of the blame on the wrong person. O-line seemed to gel a little more down the stretch. I am definitely tipping my cap to Warinner though.

I think if Stanley comes back we will have a terrific O-line next year

I'll take Hiestand, the line was dominant the past two years. This year they struggled early with injuries and rotating players but I thought they generally played solid this year and I bet they play GREAT next year.
