I put it in the Hainsey thread, but it makes sense that the staff would rather fill in the answer at LT with a guy that has plenty of reps, allowing him time to adjust to the role right from the start of spring practice.

That gives the other guys a chance to battle it out at LG while Hainsey settles in as the sure-fire LT... and if you're gonna have one unsettled position, better to be a guard than a LT IMO.

Merged the new thread with an already-existing thread dedicated to HH.

Ive been thinking that, because there is a strong chance Bears draft Big Mike if he is there. They are drafting a LT with their #1 pick. Mark It.

HH possibly going to the bears. Per Pete

I was thinking about this myself before the season; would I be happy that my NFL team gets a great O line coach, or saddened that ND loses its best position coach? I gotta say, I'd prefer ND to keep HH. Yeah, I'm sure that Kelly could find a good O line coach, but ND needs a great O line perennially to keep them in competition. Da Bears can find another coach too, but my heart belongs to the Irish, not da Bears

So to recap, we'd lose our best coach overall, who is of course our best defensive coach.... along with arguably our best offensive coach?

Sounds like a swaggy situation.

Love seeing Ruhland's name. Most here considered him a depth offer and reach by hh. He's from the town next to me, so I've been cheering for him to surprise people. Looks like he's ready to make the jump.

If they don't offer to make him the highest paid OL coach in the country then Swarbrick is a fool.

Now that most of the details are out, I support Swarbrick's decision not to be forced into a bidding war for Elko with TAMU.

But Hiestand is different. If ND is serious about playing championship-caliber football, they need to find some way to keep Saint Harry in South Bend. Get creative, Jack.

Was told this yesterday by my rabid Bear fan (and dooshy Northwestern fan) buddy that someone said it on the radio or a podcast that he'd be the first call and he wouldn't say no.

I laughed.

He better not laugh last but it makes sense. You know HH doesn't like the recruiting aspect of college. He followed one recruit ever on twitter... Salyer.

Call Warriner up at Minnesota and offer him $600k-ish. He can't be making over $500k working for the gophers.

Harry might also want to make sure he has a job if BK gets fired, and going to a Bears team with a new coach will give him at least 3 years you'd think.

He's a great OL coach, but he's also old, doesn't love recruiting, and is kind of a unique character. Next ND coach might want someone else, even though Harry is great at what he does.

So, I've been a little confused by OL recruiting recently. Not necessarily upset, but it's seemed a little sloppy and unorganized, to some degree. This HH news would make sense. He was sick for a period of time, and now he's checked out on going to the NFL. I really hope that's not the case, and he's just having a rough couple of months.

Give him the position forever and name a fucking building after him for all I care! We cannot lose HH!

Correct. You pay him whatever it takes. If he walks, then your program is dysfunctional and you need to burn it to the ground. There is no "replacement option" for Hiestand. And ultimately position coaches cost peanuts in the grand scheme.

No, they won't. And he can get any job he wants whenever he wants should BK get fired. He has had NFL teams come after him every offseason since 2012.

If we had to replace HH, I think Warriner might be as good as it gets, IMO. Our OL was really good in 2010 and 2011.

I know you have to account for the fact that you had ZMart and some college-level studs, but the fact that Tommy Rees didn't get sacked 100 times is all you need to know about the coaching job Warriner did... Tommy was a certified statue in the pocket, and the OL still helped produce 4.0 and 4.8 YPC in Warriner's two years.

Thank goodness for the early signing period but this might not help us close on a couple OL left on the board. Kelly has his work cut out for him. Now if someone would just make my day and offer Chip Long a gig. Wonder why his name hasn't come up yet?

If he wants job security, Swarbrick can give that to him.

This is impressively wrong. Hiestand is the 2nd coming of Joe Moore. Hands down the best OL coach in the game. He's more important to the long-term success of NDFB than any other coach on our roster. There's no replacing someone like him. Swarbrick better pull out all the stops to keep him here.
