That's what was going around last night, that it was a done deal.

Is this real?
<blockquote class="reddit-card" data-card-created="1580938427"><a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/notredamefootball/comments/ezflcu/notre_dame_has_hired_john_mcnulty_to_be_the_new/">Notre Dame has hired John McNulty to be the new offensive assistants coach.</a> from <a href="http://www.reddit.com/r/notredamefootball">r/notredamefootball</a></blockquote>
<script async src="//embed.redditmedia.com/widgets/platform.js" charset="UTF-8"></script>

wiki already has him listed as the ND TE Coach.

Look, again, is it probably a done deal? Yes, probably, but ND hasn't announced anything yet. Currently it's just people online doing whatever the hell they want.

ND's probably doing their O'Leary Due Diligence.

Didn't realize Driskell was quoted earlier about it.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Our collegue <a href="https://twitter.com/CoachD178?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@CoachD178</a> reports that John McNulty, former Rutgers offensive coordinator will be the new tight ends coach at Notre Dame.</p>— Chuck Freeby 46 Sports (@46Sports) <a href="https://twitter.com/46Sports/status/1225044756931149825?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">February 5, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Not that he's wrong here, but Driskell is also said to be the least reliable of the reporters on the Irish beat and reports things before he is supposed to regularly.

I'm no fan of Driskell.

I don't really care though if he doesn't "hold" stories. So sounds like he gets the scoop regularly and pisses people off for reporting too early, but is also unreliable?

II reported on their podcast that McNulty was hired before Driskel did.

I would say more, but it would be a bit unprofessional of me so I'll hold my tongue. I just know he isn't highly regarded among his peers.

I've seen plenty of D-baggery from him over the years. Isn't he the one that has had multiple hard ons for a few of the coaches. I don't subscribe to the services anymore, but he's never been one of my favs when I did.

He is extremely good with X's and O's and breakdowns. His issue is that he is ALWAYS RIGHT and if you disagree, you are an idiot or it is a "bad take".

I enjoyed the BGI podcasts with him and Lou, even though he was a total AHOLE to Lou all the time. Lou seems a lot more upbeat now days with coach Vince.

Driskell's writing is poor and he seems to be late to the party on MOST stories. I see his stuff come out hours later or the next day more or less regurgitating(sp?) what others have said. Its a lot like my college English papers.... Switch a few words around, move paragraphs and slap "unnamed source" on it and it is no longer plagiarism.

Driskel is smug but he can really break down game film.

I can't imagine he works well with "scoops" though just because I expect he rubs ppl the wrong way.

Saying this from my couch, several degrees away, but I get that vibe.

I used to follow him but after he went total meltdown over the Tommy Rees hire, I had to block him.

Lion (who follows UC) loves Mickens. He thinks he has done wonders recruiting and developing talent and would be a great hire.

Agree. He also doesn’t seem to care about keeping a good relationship with the coaches. The regular guys on the beat are never very critical of the program. Driskel doesn’t seem to care so he’ll criticize things like the Rees hiring or the job some of the other coaches are doing.

And that's fine if you want to be a hot-take opinion artist (and there's certainly a place for those guys). But if you want to break news and provide unique, reported, insight into the program you cover, it helps to maintain relationships with the people inside it.

There are ways to maintain those relationships without being a sycophant, just like there are ways to be critical without being a dick.

1) He played for the University of Missouri and Memphis. He played for St. Louis Rams, Minnesota Vikings, Kansas City Chiefs and Dallas Cowboys.

2) He was the 2020 All-American Bowl Coach of the Year.

3) He's young. I'm sure he would kill it on recruiting trail. If you coach in the STL area, you better be able to do that. Kids get snatched up left and right around here. The STL/ metro east area is full of talent.

4) ISD says hes a GREAT leader (whatever the hell that entails)
