Yeah, neither game is easy and has the potential to be the highest of the highs, or the lowest of the lows.

I am wondering though, are you gonna be on a One Foot Down podcast again anytime soon? I thought you did a great job on that and have just been wondering if you were gonna do it again. I also have been wondering, we talk about degree value all of the time, but I am curious to what you earned yours in. I am getting close to getting mine in Journalism and Mass Communications and I think any insight you would have on that would be great! I know this is random, but I always have respected your opinion and have actually been wanting to discuss this with you for awhile.

I've done two of them, though my second appearance was pretty weak. Eric Murtaugh hasn't asked me back again, but I'd be happy to do it.

Political Science. I was basically unemployable without law school. Wish someone would have told me that as a Freshman.

I am getting close to getting mine in Journalism and Mass Communications and I think any insight you would have on that would be great!

So you'll be writing for a living. It's never been easier to find work as a writer, but it's also never been harder to make decent money doing so. Very competitive space right now with the death of print and the rise of the internet. The safest course would probably be to jump on with a large company in Marketing or HR draft/edit copy for them. Not very sexy work, but it'll pay the bills.

I agree with you about where journalism is going and the effect of the Internet on it. I keep thinking that maybe I will look towards public relations for the Air Force as I am already a civil servant, or maybe some kind of sports media. I truly want to write novels, and that is the goal, but I will settle for almost anything as long as I can get published on a consistent basis. It's weird, I have a good job now, and it pays well, but I just kind of want something more. I appreciate your input here bro, thanks for taking the time!

There are plenty of government Writer/Editor and Public Affairs positions in DC if a move is a possibility. Already being in civil service would help.

That is definitely a possibility. I have no qualms about moving either, though I would like it to be a little further down south. At any rate, that would be amazing to get to write and also promote the Air Force or something To that effect.

Look in the Norfolk and Va Beach area, too. ... It's a bit further south with a huge DoD footprint -- Naval Station Norfolk, Amphibious Base Little Creek, Naval Air Station Oceana, Fort Eustis Army Base, Naval Weapons Station Yorktown, Yorktown Coast Guard Station, and Langley Air Force Base all in a 40 or 50 mile radius.

Nice! I was actually thinking about Virginia as soon as I read your first post. I have never been there before, but I have heard great things. Most likely I am going to try and keep moving up and around within civil service as I have over ten years in already. It has been pretty good to me and my family, but my current job is getting kind of old lol.

I worked in Hampton Roads for 15 years. There are some really nice communities in that area.

It definitely has my interest piqued. I will have to get up that way and see what I've been missing. I skipped an opportunity to go on vacation with some friends a couple of years ago that was near Virginia Beach, if memory serves. I'm kind of regretting it now.
